The Labyrinth - Introduction
"GORDAN!!"
Gordan shot up, throwing the blankets off.
"Gordan, you can't sleep in this long! The sun is nearly up and we've already seen at least 20 customers pass by!"
His groggy eyes faced his mother, who barged into his room. "Alright, alright... I'm UP!"
"Good. Breakfast is ready, but you need to open the stall first. THEN you can eat."
Gordan's mom narrowed her eyes as if to communicate her frustration.
A heavy sigh left Gordan as he picked up his boots and slumped out of bed. His room was well put together, and Gordan's parents made a good living selling exploration gear. Thanks to that, he enjoyed a fairly normal upbringing, never starving, never cold or hot, just a nice plain existence.
Leaving the room, he went down the stairs and left the house. He quickly ran out front to open a sliding door to a stall his parents had made. Gordan's house was on the path out of town leading directly to the nearest labyrinth entrance. As a result, business was good, and Gordan had full mornings with boring afternoons.
*A new quest has arrived*
"huh?" In front of Gordan was a familiar site; after all, every person had access to the system.
*A new quest has arrived*
*Quest: Complete your daily work!*
*Reward: Daily Wages (From Mom)*
Gordan let out another heavy sigh.
"Why does this stupid system even exist?"
He thought.
"If it's just going to tell me what my chores are, I dont want it!"
He continued opening the shop and getting things for the coming wave of new explorers. As soon as he turned the sign, his work began. All things considered, Gordan was a diligent guy, making sure to give exact change, listening to customers' requests, and making sure they got exactly what they came for.
The day passed quickly. Just before closing up the shop, as the sun went down, one more customer came up to the stall.
"Hey! Hey! NO! Don't tell me your closed?"
The raggedy-looking explorer was holding something in his hands. He had gloves with the fingertips cut off and soot on his face.
Gordan scratched his head.
"Well, yeah, but... What's one more? How can I help you?"
the raggedy man replied.
"I'm looking to sell this little thing, I can't really tell what it is... So I thought I'd see about selling it. It's all I got today."
The man opened his fist, revealing a small yellow pebble. It glistened a bit in the light. No other features immediately jumped out.
Gordan had hoped it was something a bit more valuable, but, not wanting to burn a customer, he responded.
"Well, It doesn't look like anything special... How about $2 for it? I could probably sell it as a novelty item from the labyrinth at least."
"Oh... Well, it's better than nothing. How about $5 though? I at least need dinner."
"Ah, well, okay fine. But don't try to haggle too much more, it is only a rock." Gordan sighed.
"Thank you!"
The man was ecstatic he got anything for the small pebble. He walked off happily, gripping his $5.
Gordan inspected the pebble. Nothing special seemed to jump out. But his instincts told him not to put it down. He looked closer and held it up to the light of the stall. He saw a faint shadow of something inside.
*A new quest has arrived*
