Chapter 10: You Sleep Inside, I Sleep in the Cave (1 / 2)
The outcome of the game was clear, with Han Xi and Dong Donghui, the CEO duo, coming in first and choosing the villa’s rooms.
The runners-up, Qiao Sisi and Qi Le, opted for the traditional housing.
Each pair had separate rooms, not the shared accommodation everyone had expected.
Having stumbled at the starting point, Tang Wan and her partner, who thought they’d be last but surprisingly came in third, contentedly chose the tent.
Without comparison, there is no harm; sleeping in a tent felt safer than the open-air cave.
As for the last, Sun Haotian and Chu Xinran each got a sleeping bag.
Chu Xinran had already composed herself, showing no emotion on the surface.
Even when Sun Haotian comforted her with “Think of it as a novel experience,” she managed a composed response.
Chu Xinran forced a smile, half genuine: “It’s fine. I’ve never slept in a cave before. Consider it a life experience.”
But the next moment, a shadow appeared on the ground before her, cast by Ark standing ahead.
“This is for you.”
In Ark’s outstretched palm lay a key, his reward as the host.
Qin Yun and Ark had also been allotted rooms in the villa.
No one expected that the last two picked would win so effortlessly.
“For me?”
Chu Xinran lifted her long lashes, her eyes sparkling with surprise.
Her voice rose unconsciously, drawing the attention of the others.
Ark nodded slightly, telling Chu Xinran: “A girl shouldn’t sleep outside, besides, I’m half to blame for losing the game.”
If he had been Chu Xinran’s partner, at least she wouldn’t have lost so badly.
Sun Haotian’s expression soured.
Wasn’t Ark’s gesture making him seem useless? Although, indeed, he hadn’t been much help.
Qin Yun chuckled, teasingly saying: “There’s only one room, so are you two going to live together?”
“The director team didn’t seem to have a rule against two people sleeping in the same room.”
Chu Xinran’s face turned red at the tease, whether from thin skin or something else.
Her thick black eyelashes fluttered like butterflies, endearingly cute.
The live comments were already filled with screams.
“Ah! My campus belle sister! Don’t fall for a man’s trick!”
“Sharing a room already? My goodness, this pace could catch up with the love reality shows next door, so thrilling, I love it!”
“Hey, am I the only one who thinks Fang Zhou is actually making a trade with her? It’s obvious, even with my toes, that Fang Zhou wouldn’t let himself be the subject of gossip over something like this.”
Han Xi couldn’t help but turn his attention their way, pondering deeply as he watched Fang Zhou holding the key.
Qiao Sisi glanced over, then looked away, but her grip on her small backpack deformed it.
Fang Zhou remained unfazed by Qin Yun’s jest.
He placed the key in Chu Xinran’s hand, then took her sleeping bag.
“You sleep inside, I’ll sleep outside.”
With a simple sentence, he made his intentions clear, leaving a bold impression on social media with his departing figure.
So much so that when fans later ranked the most iconic moments of love reality shows, this clip of Fang Zhou was always among the top.
The barrage of comments from Fang Zhou’s female fans exploded.
“Ah! Such a gentleman!”
“My gosh, Fang Zhou is killing it! He may not have money, but he’s handsome!”
“I’ve started shipping him with the campus belle, handsome host X pure campus belle, it’s too good!”
Unbeknownst to Fang Zhou, his actions had already drawn attention.
Chapter 10: You Sleep Inside, I Sleep in the Cave (2/2)
He simply felt that he couldn’t let Chu Xinran sleep outside.
After all, she was someone he had once loved, and it was only right to look after her.
After finding a place to stay, they arrived at a small villa on the island.
Everyone settled their luggage, and by 4 PM, it was time to prepare dinner.
For the first episode, they had to spend five days and four nights on the island, during which all meals were the responsibility of the guests themselves.
The production team only provided the raw ingredients.
In other words, they had to cook for themselves.
After some discussion, they decided to cook the first meal together, and then split into groups for the rest.
Fang Zhou was tasked with handling the vegetables.
String beans had to be picked clean one by one, along with tomatoes, potatoes, Shanghai bok choy, and more.
Each one needs to be washed clean.
As for the head chef, there are plenty of volunteers.
Sun Haotian and Liu Hao, having just lost a round in the competition, both wanted to show off a bit to regain some face.
Fang Zhou found a basin, filled it with clean water, and squatted down to start washing the vegetables.
The ingredients provided by the show crew had already been pre-processed, not the kind with obvious dirt, so they were relatively easy to wash.
While he was washing, someone seemed to stand behind Fang Zhou. Turning around, he saw Chu Xinran holding a small stool.
She smiled with her eyes curved, offering the stool to him.
“Sitting here to wash won’t be so tiring.”
Fang Zhou took the stool and thanked her, “Thank you.”
He turned back around to continue washing, not wanting to interact too much with Chu Xinran.
To be precise, he didn’t want to have too much interaction with any of his ex-girlfriends on the variety show.
The more you say, the more mistakes you make, and who knows when it might be dug up.
However, things didn’t develop in the direction Fang Zhou hoped for.
Chu Xinran also stepped forward, squatted down, rolled up her sleeves, and started to help wash the vegetables.
Fang Zhou felt a bit panicked and quickly tried to stop her.
“You don’t need to wash, go rest, I can handle it.”
Chu Xinran’s smile was radiant, and with sincere eyes, she said to Fang Zhou, “Consider it a thank you for swapping rooms with me.”
The girl’s fair face was like a blooming camellia, pure and beautiful, and her earnest gaze was as eager as a puppy’s, hard to resist.
Fang Zhou felt as if he was back in the days when he was in school, dating Chu Xinran.
Back then, she looked at him with the same gaze, full of dependence and trust, without reservation.
Unfortunately, later…
Fang Zhou lowered his head to avoid her gaze and casually said.
“Then, as you wish.”
Chu Xinran’s smile was gentle, and her presence carried a tranquil air, making one feel as if time stood still in peace.
Qin Yun, passing by with ribs in hand, witnessed this scene, and a flash of light sparkled behind her glasses.
Fang Zhou inexplicably felt a chill down his spine, as if he was being watched by some beast.
Looking back, there was nothing there.
Then he heard Qin Yun calling him, “Fang Zhou, can you help me chop these ribs? I don’t have the strength to cut them.”
Fang Zhou thought to himself, I don’t believe you, a bad woman who can hold a scalpel steady surely can handle a kitchen knife, right?
