Space Core

Chapter 48: Certe versus Portal

POV: Certe

I woke up suddenly, falling off a strange bed. Why did I fall asleep? Why isn't Jerome there?! I walked in right after him!

I took a quick look at my surroundings, I seemed to be inside a glass box of some kind; Inside, there was the strange bed I had fallen off of, it had a strange light surrounding the mattress. There also was a toilet made out of a shiny white material and a strange object producing music without needing to use any instruments.

There was also a countdown, which scared me. Anything could happen once it reaches zero... I waited for a little bit, and when it reached the forty-second mark, a voice and out of nowhere and started talking.

"Hello and, again, welcome to the Aperture Science computer-aided enrichment center. We hope your brief detention in the relaxation vault has been a pleasant one. Your specimen has been processed and we are now ready to begin the test proper."

Wait... a test? What's going on? I need to do something bef-

"Before we start, however, keep in mind that although fun and learning are the primary goals of all enrichment center activities, serious injuries may occur."

Well, that didn't give me any good feelings.

"For your own safety and the safety of others, please refrain from touching-" A jumbled mess of static and broken noise filled the room for a few moments. And the strange voice rapidly spoke in a strange language for a few seconds.

"Stand back. The portal will open in three. two. one."

And just like that, the countdown reached zero, and space warped on the only non-glass wall of my cage; A portal appearing out of thin air. I looked around in caution, before throwing the weird music object through it. It didn't explode, so I assumed it to be safe to go through.

I prepared myself, and hoped through the portal; My feline body soaring through the air without problem. And then I landed safely on the other side.

I went around the newly accessed room and quickly found myself going through a strange door, which closed itself behind me once I was all the way through.

The new room looked like the previous one, clean and way too bright. In it, there was a simple red platform of sorts and a tube that opened and let a metal cube fall down. I went over the the red platform and walked onto it, only to find it sinking into the ground slightly and another door in the room opened itself.

I didn't really know what had happened, but the events looked like they were connected. I pushed down the red platform and the door opened, so it must be some kind of activator. To test the theory, I walked off the red and back onto the white floor; The door closed itself.

The answer to the problem at hand was quite simple, I had to take the cube and put it onto the activator. I approached the cube, and readied my Mana to move it onto the button; I let it out and... nothing. My Mana had dissipated as soon as it left me, leaving me with no way to use magic.

I looked at my paws and then back at the cube. I tried to push it with all my force... and it only slightly slid across the floor.

This was going to be a long, long, day.

I decided that I needed to continue a bit on that story line... I also really like portal so this gives me an excuse to play it again. Here's the discord by the way: https://discord.gg/5eTED7PVYH
