Chapter 43: The Man-Faced Demon Spider
Chapter 43: The Man-Faced Demon Spider
After listening to Su Mo's analysis, everyone laughed, but they couldn’t help but feel a sense of melancholy. Even though Su Mo’s analysis suggested that future soul masters wouldn't be entirely without spirit rings, their prospects were bleak.
After all, in the end, they might only be able to absorb white spirit rings, and if a yellow ring appeared, people would fight tooth and nail to claim it.
The most disheartened was Xiao Wu. She had hoped that Su Mo’s words would show her a bright future for spirit beasts. Who would have thought that the future he described meant spirit beasts would be reduced to weak, low-level creatures, easily slaughtered?
“Everyone, be careful!”
Suddenly, Zhao Wuji, sensing something off, stood up and warned the group.
At that moment, everyone felt the air around them grow oppressive, and their expressions became serious.
“Oscar, get the Mushroom Sausages ready!”
Zhao Wuji commanded.
“Yes, Teacher Zhao!”
Oscar quickly responded, beginning to prepare the Mushroom Sausages. As soon as he finished the first one, he handed it to Su Mo, who was standing beside him.
“Roar—”
Before Oscar could continue making more sausages, the terrifying figure of the Titan Giant Ape appeared.
…
After a scene of chaos.
“Oscar, give me a Mushroom Sausage. I owe you one!”
Tang San, seeing Xiao Wu being captured by the Titan Giant Ape, couldn’t sit still and do nothing.
Tang San had no idea that Su Mo already had one, and Oscar had forgotten as well. So after consuming one of Oscar’s sausages, Tang San spread his wings and flew in the direction where the Titan Giant Ape disappeared.
“I’m going to help Tang San!”
Seeing this, Su Mo ate his Mushroom Sausage and quickly followed Tang San.
Whoosh—
In an instant, Zhao Wuji and the others saw both Tang San and Su Mo vanish into the distance.
“Damn it!”
“If we’re going to save them, we’ll all go together!”
“Oscar, hurry up and make sausages for everyone!”
Zhao Wuji cursed loudly, then ordered Oscar to prepare more Mushroom Sausages. Otherwise, it would be impossible to catch up to Su Mo and Tang San.
Although the Mushroom Sausages only allowed flight for a minute, that minute was at the speed of the Phoenix-Tail Crest Serpent.
“Yes, Teacher Zhao!”
Oscar dared not delay, quickly continuing to make more sausages. However, after the chaos they had just experienced, it would take him some time to prepare enough.
“Su Mo!”
Ning Rongrong watched Su Mo disappear into the distance, her eyes filled with anxiety and concern. She hadn’t expected him to rush off like that.
At the same time, Tang San noticed Su Mo catching up from behind.
“Su Mo, why are you here too?”
Tang San asked, surprised, while still speeding forward.
“Nothing much. Xiao Wu is my teammate too.”
Su Mo didn’t explain further. He couldn’t exactly tell Tang San that he was after the Eight Spider Lances, could he?
“Thank you!”
Tang San was deeply touched and thanked him sincerely.
They continued their pursuit, with Su Mo following close behind.
The time for the Mushroom Sausages soon ran out, and the two had no choice but to continue on foot.
Luckily, the Titan Giant Ape had cleared the path, so no soul beasts blocked their way.
Squeak, squeak—
However, there was one exception. A two-meter-tall Man-Faced Demon Spider suddenly appeared in their path, blocking their way.
“It’s a Man-Faced Demon Spider! This one is definitely over a thousand years old, and it’s not going to be easy to deal with!”
Tang San was immediately frustrated. The spider was delaying his rescue of Xiao Wu.
“Tang San, leave this Man-Faced Demon Spider to me. You go ahead and catch up with Xiao Wu. I’ll follow after.”
Su Mo stepped forward, volunteering to cover their rear.
As he spoke, Su Mo wielded his Soul-Hunting Spear, coldly facing off against the Man-Faced Demon Spider.
Tang San felt another wave of gratitude.
Initially, he had planned to kill the spider with Su Mo and absorb its spirit ring before going after Xiao Wu. But hearing Su Mo’s offer, he changed his mind. Killing the soul beast and absorbing the ring would take time, and by then, Xiao Wu would be too far ahead to catch up.
“Alright, be careful!”
“Here, take this Zhuge Divine Crossbow—it’ll help you deal with the Man-Faced Demon Spider more effectively!”
Tang San quickly agreed, handing Su Mo a Zhuge Divine Crossbow, along with a brief explanation of how to use it.
"I got it!"
"Go after Xiao Wu quickly, or you'll lose track of her!"
Su Mo continued to face off against the Man-Faced Demon Spider while taking the Zhuge Divine Crossbow from Tang San, holding both the spear and the crossbow aimed at the spider.
"Alright, I'm off! Be careful!"
With Su Mo’s assurance, Tang San didn’t dare waste any more time and hurried ahead to chase after Xiao Wu.
"Screech—"
The Man-Faced Demon Spider, seeing Tang San make his escape, immediately moved its legs to block him.
Swish, swish, swish—
Su Mo quickly fired the Zhuge Divine Crossbow, intercepting the spider and preventing it from going after Tang San.
"Chitter—"
The Man-Faced Demon Spider, forced to let Tang San go, turned its full attention to Su Mo, glaring at him with ferocious eyes and baring its fangs.
Whoosh—
The spider lunged toward Su Mo with terrifying speed, its eight legs slicing through the air like blades as it attacked.
"Goddess, I need your help!"
Su Mo called out while shooting the crossbow at the spider, retreating as he did so, hoping for some aid from the unseen.
He needed Bibi Dong to share her vision with him for better clarity.
Whoosh—
As soon as Su Mo spoke, Bibi Dong’s figure materialized.
"A Man-Faced Demon Spider? And a two-thousand-year-old one at that!"
"How did you end up fighting such a powerful soul beast? Where are the others?"
Bibi Dong, upon seeing the creature Su Mo was facing, gasped in shock.
"There’s no one else right now. Just help me with extended vision and finding its weak points!"
Su Mo quickly replied.
Swish, swish, swish—
By then, the Man-Faced Demon Spider had reached Su Mo. With the crossbow bolts exhausted, he tossed it aside and engaged the spider in combat using his spear and the Overlord Spear Technique.
Clang, clang, clang—
The eight legs of the Man-Faced Demon Spider had turned into sharp blades, relentlessly slashing at Su Mo, forcing him to block continuously.
After a brief exchange, Su Mo began to struggle—the spider’s attacks were too fast and frequent.
He had no choice but to retreat while fighting.
Bibi Dong, not wasting any time, expanded Su Mo’s vision and began closely observing the Man-Faced Demon Spider.
"The spider has a fresh wound on its abdomen, and it hasn’t used its web attack even once. It must have just fought somewhere else. Its webbing ability, which it can use only three times a day, is probably spent!"
"The eyes beneath its abdomen are its weak point!"
Bibi Dong quickly relayed her findings to Su Mo.
Su Mo had already noticed the same thing, thanks to the vision he shared with Bibi Dong.
"A wound?"
Su Mo paused for a moment, recalling that this Man-Faced Demon Spider might be the same one Meng Yiran had been hunting earlier.
With that realization, Su Mo turned around and began to flee. Killing the Man-Faced Demon Spider here could be troublesome if Dragon Duke and Snake Granny showed up.
Moreover, with the spider's web-spitting ability depleted, he didn’t have to fear it as much anymore.
He had been on guard against its web attack all this time!
"Chitter—"
Seeing Su Mo flee, the Man-Faced Demon Spider screeched angrily and immediately gave chase.
