Chapter 39: Spear Tower Combination
Chapter 39: Spear Tower Combination
"There's nothing to it; food-based martial spirits create edible things!"
"Don't worry about how strange the incantation sounds; it's just food made by a food-type spirit master!"
Su Mo said this to Ning Rongrong, and then stepped forward. "I'll go first!"
After that, Su Mo walked up to Oscar, took a sausage from his hand, and immediately bit into it.
"Not bad!"
After taking a bite, Su Mo even praised it.
Su Mo wasn't that fussy. There was no point in fighting against Flender just to avoid eating a sausage. Besides, if he didn't eat it now, he would have to eventually, unless he quit Shrek altogether.
"Good, well done. Who's next?"
Up on the platform, Flender watched as Su Mo ate Oscar’s sausage without any change in expression, and his eyes grew more appreciative.
"I'll go!"
Everyone was surprised when they heard the voice. They turned to see Ning Rongrong as the second person to step forward.
"I will prove to everyone that I belong in Shrek!"
After saying this to Flender, Ning Rongrong ate a recovery sausage.
"Good, well done! It's good that you have this determination!"
Flender nodded in satisfaction upon seeing this.
He didn’t have high expectations for Ning Rongrong—so long as she behaved and didn't cause trouble, he was content.
The collective pressure Tang San and the others put on Ning Rongrong last night wasn’t part of his plan.
Seeing Ning Rongrong willingly follow his lesson plan now, he was quite pleased.
"And me!"
Seeing that Ning Rongrong dared to eat it, Zhu Zhuqing didn’t want to be left behind. She quickly stepped forward and ate a recovery sausage as well.
After that, Tang San and Xiao Wu had no choice but to follow suit and complete today’s lesson.
Once everyone had eaten the recovery sausages Oscar made, today's class was over. Flender let everyone go off to train on their own.
Su Mo turned and left to train.
"Su Mo, wasn't my performance just now pretty good?"
Seeing Su Mo leave, Ning Rongrong caught up to him, showing off and seemingly wanting his approval for her earlier actions.
"Very impressive, you set a great example for the other girls!"
Su Mo unhesitatingly praised her.
"Hehe, they all want me to leave, but I’m not going anywhere!"
"Su Mo, are you going to train? Can I join you?"
Hearing Su Mo’s compliment, Ning Rongrong immediately brightened up.
"Sure."
...
"What’s going on between those two?"
The others, seeing Su Mo and Ning Rongrong leave together, began to speculate, as if they’d discovered something.
Only Oscar watched the two walk away, feeling a bit down.
When did Ning Rongrong get so close to Su Mo?
Although he had decided to give up on her last night and couldn’t really bring himself to like her personality, seeing her getting along with someone else still made him feel uncomfortable.
"What the—Su Mo told me that women would only slow down his dominant hand, and now they're already hitting it off?"
Ma Hongjun was also stunned by the scene in front of him.
He didn’t know about the collective pressure put on Ning Rongrong by the others last night, so he misunderstood, thinking Ning Rongrong and Su Mo had gotten together.
"Brother, don’t feel bad. Ning Rongrong isn’t right for you!"
Noticing Oscar's downcast expression, Ma Hongjun stepped forward and patted him on the shoulder, trying to comfort him.
"Why wouldn’t she be right?"
Oscar responded with some dissatisfaction.
"You probably didn’t know, right? The Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Clan has a rule—choosing a partner must be a battle soul master. So, you don't stand a chance!"
Ma Hongjun patted Oscar's shoulder again and explained.
"..."
"The Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Clan has a rule like that, huh..."
Oscar sighed, feeling a bit of regret, but quickly brushed it off. "Well, that settles it!"
He had already given up on chasing after Ning Rongrong last night. Now that he knew about this rule, it made things even clearer—there was no hope, so he wouldn’t waste time on it.
Besides, he had dated a few girls before. Letting go when necessary wasn’t that difficult for him. Although there was some regret, he wasn’t deeply hurt.
After all, they had only known each other for two or three days. How much could he really like her? Not that much!
"Exactly! You hit level 30 today, right? How about we head to Soto City to celebrate? We could really unwind!"
Seeing Oscar’s expression, Ma Hongjun draped an arm around his neck and suggested with a playful tone.
"That sounds good, let’s head out!"
At Ma Hongjun's proposal, Oscar's face lit up with a mischievous grin.
The two exchanged amused looks and, with their arms slung around each other, set off for Soto City, ready to have some carefree daytime fun.
Meanwhile, Su Mo wasn’t only focused on training—he also made sure to participate in a soul fight every day.
When Ning Rongrong found out, she naturally decided to tag along.
"Su Mo, the dean said we need to become Silver Soul Fighters to graduate. Do I have to as well? But I'm a support-type soul master!"
On the way, Ning Rongrong suddenly remembered she was also a student of Shrek and asked Su Mo.
"Not sure, but you probably do!"
"Even though support-type soul masters can’t compete alone, they can still team up with others for duo or team fights!"
Su Mo had forgotten about this. Oscar wasn’t around yesterday, so he wasn’t sure of the specifics, but based on his analysis, it seemed likely that everyone, including support-types, needed to meet the requirement.
"We can form a team? How about the two of us form a duo?"
Ning Rongrong’s eyes lit up at the thought of teaming up. Regardless of whether the academy required it or not, she wanted to participate in the soul fights—it seemed like so much fun!
"Pleaseee~"
Before Su Mo could answer, Ning Rongrong ran ahead, walking backward as she looked up at him with wide, pleading eyes.
Acting cute was Ning Rongrong’s go-to tactic. Back in her clan, this always worked.
"...Fine!"
Faced with her playful request, Su Mo couldn’t hold out.
Not that he had planned on refusing. Forming a duo with Ning Rongrong would essentially turn their fights into one-on-two situations for him, giving him a great opportunity to sharpen his combat skills.
"Hehe, it’s settled then!"
"Oh, by the way, duos need a name, right? What should we call ourselves?"
"How about 'Beautiful Girl Duo'?"
"That’s no good. How about 'Su Ning Duo'?"
"Seven Treasures Duo?"
"Spear Tower Duo?"
"..."
Hearing Su Mo agree, Ning Rongrong grinned with satisfaction. Walking beside him, she chattered away, enthusiastically brainstorming names for their team.
"Enough, let’s just go with 'Spear Tower Duo.'"
