Chapter 97: Victory!

Chapter 97: Victory!

Trolls were struck down as they fled, attacked from behind.

Before they could stand up again, the charging clay golems would stomp heavily on their backs.

Then, the excited rovers would rush up, using ropes and chains they had prepared to tie them up before eagerly moving on to the next troll.

The trolls that fought fiercely and viciously now looked like walking gold coins as they began to flee!

"Each captured troll earns a 50-gold battle reward!"

These were Angela's exact words during the final charge, which made the soldiers fight with even more ferocity, killing the trolls who ran around in panic.

Ralph the steward coldly drew his rapier, staring sternly at the adventurers who were hesitating to approach:

"Only adventurers who participated in the confrontation battle and caused serious injury or death to at least one troll can join in the pursuit."

"Everyone else, halt!"

In theory, greedy adventurers wouldn't listen to Ralph just because of his words.

The main reason was what stood behind Ralph.

Over twenty towering clay golems, along with more than thirty wounded soldiers and over a thousand kobolds rushing in!

The powerful Gold-Fang and Silver-Fang glared at the adventurers with slit-like eyes, ready to attack if they made any suspicious moves.

A third of the adventurers happily joined the pursuit.

Their support earlier had achieved unexpected results and would bring them a rich reward.

Another group of adventurers wisely turned around and left, not wanting to leave a bad impression on Ralph.

After all, they still had captured trolls in their hands, and only with Ralph's approval could they exchange them for real gold coins.

Yet, there were always some adventurers blinded by greed, trying to slip through unnoticed, mingling with the pursuing group.

The trolls were fleeing frantically, almost powerless to fight back. This wasn't a pursuit; it was a complete gold grab!

But then, Gold-Fang and Silver-Fang dragged them out one by one, having received accurate "information" from Yaya.

Ralph, in front of everyone, tore open two lie-detection scrolls rather dominantly.

The result, of course, was self-explanatory!

In front of all the adventurers, Ralph canceled the contributions of these few and had them detained, preparing to permanently banish them from Bay Village.

This cold punishment instantly crushed any unrealistic ideas many adventurers had.

The phalanx of clay golems once again demonstrated the lord's immense power!

No adventurer was willing to leave Bay Village, and most were somewhat gleeful at the fate of the unlucky ones who had been caught.

"With them gone, we'll all get more gold!"

"Haha, that's right! Those fools thought they could deceive a spellcaster? What a joke."

"They'll never be allowed into Bay Village again; that's a pretty severe punishment..."

"Severe? In other territories, those idiots would be lucky not to be thrown into a suicide mission camp for deceiving the lord!"

"If you ask me, those greedy fools should be kicked out before they ruin our reputation as adventurers."

"Never mind that; if we can't join the pursuit, let's hurry and search for any stragglers at the rear."

"Besides, everyone else is busy for the moment, so we can search other parts of the Dark Forest."

"Exactly! There are bound to be scattered trolls elsewhere, and it's the perfect time to make money!"

"..."

Any potential unrest was quietly extinguished by Ralph's skilled handling, his shrewd tactics making many adventurers more cautious.

The lord had already been incredibly generous, so it was best not to entertain any other ideas!

Though fools are born every day, with the warning example set, even the most ignorant of monkeys would behave for a while.

The soldiers pursued the trolls for about three or four hundred meters before decisively stopping.

They turned back to suppress the trolls whose legs had been slashed and who were unable to escape.

Only about seventy or eighty trolls managed to flee, and most of them were the elderly and weak who had fled early when the situation turned bad.

Matthew watched as Angela expertly cleaned up the battlefield, and he could clearly sense her significant progress.

Once she returned and absorbed the experience from this battle, she should be able to break through to become a Tier 3 Knight.

By then, Angela's personal strength and command abilities would take another leap forward!

The last resisting troll was cut down by Beelzebub, then bound hand and foot, becoming his trophy.

A pleasant sound rang in Matthew's ears.

"Ding! Your soldiers have killed a total of 418 trolls, gaining 22,000 experience points!"

"Ding! You have achieved a major victory, earning an additional 2,000 experience points and 2 skill points."

"Ding! You have changed the fate of 672 people, gaining 900 Fate Coins."

The total experience points had reached 40,000.

The precious skill points had increased to 5.

Matthew now possessed 2,100 Fate Coins.

A massive harvest!

The abundant rewards made Matthew let out a small breath.

Spending tens of thousands of gold coins was all for these things, after all.

In theory, this amount of experience points was enough for Matthew to raise his class level to Tier 11, instantly stepping into the high-tier ranks!

However, Matthew dismissed this tempting thought.

Just two high-tier trolls had caused him so much trouble.

And the even more dangerous shadow hunter had secretly slipped away.

High-tier enemies were already this dangerous!

What about the mastermind who once tried to assassinate him?

That attack had taken place in the tightly guarded territory of the Ser Family, from within the magic tower.

It would take at least several legendary-level individuals to achieve such an effect!

Matthew couldn't be so reckless. Simply becoming a high-tier professional wouldn't guarantee his safety.

So, he had to stay patient and bide his time!

Moreover, during the intense battle, the image of the high-tier troll assassin being cleverly trapped and killed in cooperation with the old instructor Arnold still replayed in his mind.

"Level isn't the key. Talents, heritage, specializations, skills, attributes, and all sorts of equipment and money—all these together determine combat power."

Not to mention, if he leveled up too quickly, the experience decay from killing enemies of lower levels would make gaining experience much harder.

Unless absolutely necessary, Matthew wouldn't use this method!

He had paid a steep price but had ultimately secured victory.

After being tempered by battle, the soldiers had become even stronger.

Matthew couldn't help but smile brightly, while in his heart he pondered.

"Which aspect of my strength should I improve next?"
