Chapter 154: Coup D'etat
Hilda's face turned dark when Sol asked her why she got into the underworld, there was some kind of unsaid rule that you don't ask others why they got to the underworld as people would not want to talk about it.
Sol could not help but ask the military woman as he knew her, there was no way she would do crimes moreover against a God.
He knew that she had joined the pantheon of Mars which made it unlikely for her to be framed by another God since they would not want to get into the God of war's bad side.
The only thing possible was she was punished by Mars himself but it was still unlikely as she was the type of person who followed her superior's command to the end.
"Let's talk inside, this will be long," she signs them to follow her to the cave she was resting in before.
The bound fire demigod was left outside alone while the others followed her into the cave, no one cared about the man.
"Hey! Don't leave me out here! What if there is a creature coming? At least unbind me!" he shouted but no one would bother with him.
Once they got into the cave, each of them conjured something to rest on before Hilda started to tell her story.
"People from the temple of Mars went with me to a city govern by the pantheon of Mars, at first, things were normal but it soon changed," she told him
Three months ago, Hilda and her people went to the city of Mars, they renamed the city with the God's name as an offering to the God of War.
The moment she came, a lot of people praised and sung her name as she was one of the few demigods who came to join them.
Being hailed as a hero wherever they go, the demigods grew arrogant, they felt like they were better than other people.
"Ashura, we should train to get stronger, you are a soldier, stop playing all day and do your duty!" Hilda told Ashura to be responsible but he did not seem to hear her.
Just like most demigods, he did not see her as his superior anymore, with his ability he was already on the top of the food chain, he could just do as he pleased.
"Ease up a bit, Ms. Hilda, we have so many people and demigod here, other Pantheon would not be able to threaten us, moreover those creatures," the man replied to her.
She could only let him do as he pleased as she had no power over him, the moment they joined the pantheon, they were no longer superior and subordinate, he had no obligation to follow her order as they are a fellow member of the pantheon.
"Fine, you do as you please!" she left him to himself while she tried to deepen her understanding of her ability.
But time did not wait for those who were content with themselves, more and more demigods appeared in the city and joined the pantheon.
Soon, the demigods who were hailed as heroes were no more, demigods were seen as the standard that they needed to reach.
Even the demigods started to be unorganized since there were too many of them, they soon took a militaristic approach and gave rank to demigods according to their power and contribution.
Hilda was among those at the top of the chain of command as she had been spending her time contributing to the pantheon and strengthening herself.
"Commander, there are a few people who want to meet you," a man that was tasked to guard her office called from the outside.
Hilda was titled as one of the three commanders in the branch of Mars pantheon, she was directly under the founder of the branch pantheon.
"Let them in," She said even though she was not expecting anyone that day, her intuition told her it was something important.
Three people came into her office, all of them were wearing a hood to cover their face but she could sense that each one of them was a demigod, a strong one at that.
They opened their hood once they made sure no one was observing, it startled her as she recognized them.
"High Commander!" She got off from her chair and greeted the leader of the pantheon branch of Mars pantheon.
"At ease, don't talk too loudly," the man instructed her.
Almost everyone in the pantheon was in the military so they were familiar with the military etiquette.
Hilda moved away from her chair letting the man take her seat as she stood in attention with the other two men.
Both men were the leader's personal guard, they were not part of her or the other two commanders' chain of command.
"I will keep our discussion short, I got an intel that the other two commanders are going to do a coup d'etat on this pantheon, they wanted to separate from the pantheon of mars and join under the legion pantheon," the man explained.
"Legion!?" She was shocked as the legion pantheon was the biggest pantheon that was not under any god's pantheon, they were recruiting any demigod and occupied cities all over the world.
She did know that the legion was doing mass recruitment with a giant reward but she did not know that they started to reach their arm toward the demigod belonging to the pantheon of gods.
If the Gods knew about it then they would take it as a declaration of war from the group of mortals.
"What should we do Sir?" she asked her superior.
"I want you to join them and report their every move, we will catch them by surprise, can you do it?" he asked her.
"I will do my best Sir!" he said readily.
"Good, you just need to leave some message in your office room, my men will get them at sundown every week," he told her before leaving with his guard, they had done their hood again so no one would recognize them.
After that, Hilda was visited by the other two commanders, they extended an invitation for her to join them, they said that the legion promised to help them reach major demigods within a year.
"With such a high offer, no wonder they would betray the other," She thought to herself.
"Don't be afraid, I got information from a reliable source that the legion is backed by one of the Major Gods, so we don't need to fear the wrath of Mars," one of them tried to persuade her.
She agreed to them but she actually was doing her job as the spy, she would send the news to the high command every week.
With enough proof gathered, the high commander captured the mastermind of the coup d'etat before they could launch their plan.
Hilda was the one who gave them the chance to capture the two commanders by calling them to her office to talk about the plan.
But to her surprise, she was captured with the other two commanders, at first it was part of the plan but it turned out the high commander wanted to get rid of her as well.
He went to report to the God of War to get some merit, in the end, the three commanders including Hilda were sentenced to be sent into the underworld.
"The Pantheon leader betrayed me and sent me here to be punished," she ended her story.
Sol was alarmed by what she said, before he went into the underworld, he did not hear any news about the legion, if they were doing it in more than one city then there would probably be multiple coup d'etat happening while they were in the underworld.
"What is Mars's stance against the legion?" he asked her.
"He did not bother about them, Jupiter had made it clear that they would not stop the human from making their own pantheon," she explained.
Hilda had tried to explain to the God of war, but the god really hated betrayal, he was already being lenient when he did not kill her right away.
If the Gods did not get involved with what happened then they would most probably use their branch pantheon to take revenge against the legion.
There would be a giant war between pantheons when that happens, Sol could not imagine how many humans would die to do the bidding of the Gods.
If they could survive the underworld then they would return to the mortal realm, and it would also be their problem.
Sol wanted to open the gate of the underworld to prevent a war and escape such a situation but it turned out that what would be waiting for him back home was another war.
"Fuck! Why does war happen everywhere? Can't they just live peacefully?" Sol cursed.
"What about you Soul? Why are there only two of you? What happened to your teammates?" Hilda asked back.
Once Sol explained what happened to her, her face went dark as she could imagine how many people would die in a war involving gods and titans, they would be dragged in if they did not stop the war.
