So, I'm a witch, so what?

Chapter 41: Assasination Attempt: Mirror world (Part 1 of 3)

{Tensione - Yugo Kanno}

I can't help but feel something strange as soon as the people leave, and I'm left alone in the garden again. While I know I'm all alone, I can't help but feel like I'm being watched over by something or someone better, so I quickly also leave the garden area because I suddenly don't feel safe anymore.

As soon as I left the garden area, however, I saw an extraordinary red light pointing straight down to where I sat. It's a strange light, but it gives me the shivers once I know the bench is melting right where the red light is pointing. Not only that, but the light soon vanishes once I see it.

I can't make much sense of whatever is going on, so I just sit there watching from a distance until I notice a red spot near me again, trying to inch closer and closer to me like it's following something or it's been moved around by someone.

I move away from the light once again as I try to stay calm, thinking I must be seeing things, so I leave for the library without making much of the red light until I notice it matching my movement pace, basically keeping up with me the whole time.

What the hell was this thing, and why did it follow me around? Did someone know about my weakened state at the moment? But how? I haven't told anyone of it yet, or is this just an attempt to sneakily kill me because they think I'm still powerful?

Suddenly, I lose track of the red light, and I frantically start looking for it around me until I notice it on my left foot when I feel a burning sensation on it, making me scream in terror once because the light can suddenly just do things like that.

{Minute 1:05}

Without much thought, I begin running toward the halls and looking around the mansion to try and spot whoever was probably using their weird magic, but I don't see anyone else other than the staff and the knights, who don't seem suspicious at all.

The little red dot of light, however, follows me outside as well until I notice it slowly slowing down when I start walking further and further away from the garden area and near the entrance of the mansion, which is the furthest place from the garden area, giving me a clue.

Whoever is using the spell has to be within the premises of the place or use some sort of amplifier that does not reach well past the mansion, which can only mean that the caster must be someone near the garden area. Who? Most people walk through that place!

To my horror, however, the light suddenly gets brighter again, meaning whoever is using the spell must have noticed I moved a little too far away, and it's not moving closer toward me! But I can't see anyone moving strangely anywhere! Unless they're on the ceiling, I think, so I look up, but there's also nobody in the ceiling.

Since I don't know what exactly to do against it yet, I simply keep moving around while trying to see anything weird from anybody nearby. Still, nothing seems out of the ordinary, and also, no one else seems able to see the red dot on the ground constantly chasing me.

Not only do people around me not notice the red dot chasing me down, but strangely, they also don't seem to notice me running around like I'm not there either, which is only the more terrifying.

Am I going crazy? I thought at first, so I went in to try and interact with the people walking by to check if they could even see me, and to my terror, they couldn't. I ran straight toward somebody walking my way, but when I stood right before them, they just went right through me like I was a ghost or something.

{決戦へ向かって撃て - Yugo Kanno}

An illusion spell? No, it can't be one of those; Veronica told me that the person using the spell must touch you at some point before casting the spell unless, uhh! That maid I gave the orders about Lord Auri and the church warning, did she touch me? Or was it the other one in my room? Many people have come close to me today!

If I'm to be suspicious of anyone, the first and most plausible option is the words of god guy, but they left the mansion a while ago already, and the whole range thing wouldn't make sense unless I'm somehow getting baited or trapped by someone or something.

If it's all an illusion, then the whole range thing wouldn't make sense either because the people under an illusion spell cannot physically move around like this whole thing suggests I'm able to do, so what kind of spell is it? I had no idea Veronica never mentioned such a category!

What do I do now? I think to myself as I keep strolling around the mansion, trying to think of a solution that will let me out of whatever spell I'm under. I know that, for some reason, the red dot cannot just teleport to my head and that it follows me no matter how fast or slow I move.

It is also noted that the dot will also start to vanish when I run out of the caster's range and that they need to follow me to keep the spell running; however, what if this information is a trap? If I think about it, the correct solution would be a simple one.

I would just have to run outside the mansion and into one of the plane fields nearby to lure the caster; the problem with that is, of course, the chance that it's all just bait. Why would the enemy show me a clear solution that would lead me to the outside of the mansion, away from guards, while nobody can seem to see me?

If we go back and think about who I most likely feel is responsible for this whole thing, then it would make sense as to why they would want me to go outside in this state of being. Yet what other solution have I got? Nobody is able to help me right now, and I don't know how to break away from this spell.

If I walk outside, I will most likely walk right into a trap. However, I also cannot just keep running around forever since I will eventually run out of stamina, which is already not at its peak! Damn it! I don't know what to do for once. This attack completely caught me off guard.

Eventually, I concluded that I needed to gather more information in order to make a better assessment of the light, which is my next goal. I had to know if the light could be reflected around with a mirror or something of the sort, and since I could pick up items, it wouldn't take long to check, but that's when I noticed something even more strange.

As soon as I find a mirror in my room and I go to pick it up, I notice that the mirror glass is just missing, leaving nothing but a mirror-shaped thing without a glass or a mirror film in it. Why would there be no mirrors in this spell? What does that mean? I didn't have to ponder around as the dot forced me to move again.

If there were no mirrors in here, then perhaps I would have to use more rustic methods, I told myself, so I immediately went back toward the garden fountain because of the water's reflection. I had to check on it; water reflects light, after all!

Yet once I make my way into the fountain and try to look at my reflection in the water, I notice that even the water lacks reflection; in fact, it's all grayed out like it's not even actual water anymore. What sort of thing was I under? There are no mirrors nor reflections whatsoever in this place! What does it mean!?
