Chapter 39: Disappointment
And just like that, without any difficulty, Sakim finally made physical contact with one of the Ghost Fires in the area. After all, this Ghost Fire was lonely and was floating a little above the ground. And from what it seemed, this Ghost Fire was in deep sleep.
Even after Sakim touched its glowing body, the Ghost Fire didn't even bother moving as if it didn't care whatever was happening around it.
Sakim only smiled a little though. After all, it was favorable for him if this monster didn't care about his presence. With that, he wouldn't have any trouble to deal with it later on once he started doing his experiment.
So with an intention to steal its experience points, Sakim couldn't help but mutter, "Steal!"
Poof!
And just like that, nothing happened.
Sakim couldn't help but frown as he retracted his hand and stared at his palm. Was that all? Did he steal the experience points of this monster already? But where in the world was the notification? From what had just happened, Sakim couldn't help but feel doubts. He even felt that he failed to steal the experience points of that Ghost Fire.
But then, gaining experience points and leveling up in this world was a hard thing to do. So, of course, he wouldn't be able to notice any changes if he really had stolen the experience points of this Ghost Fire.
But then again, if Sakim really had stolen the experience points of that Ghost Fire, shouldn't the System notify him at least? Or shouldn't the Ghost Fire react wildly against him since he started to make a move against it? The frown on his face was just becoming even more ugly the more he thought about it. Perhaps, he should just try again to see what would happen?
With that in mind, Sakim reached his hand towards the body of the Ghost Fire again. And with a frown still remaining on his face, Sakim couldn't help but mutter again, "Steal!"
Poof!
And just like that, nothing happened again.
What was going on now? Did he really steal the experience points already? Sakim retracted his hand as he narrowed his eyes a little seeing the unmoving Ghost Fire. If only the System had notified him of whether he had stolen the experience points or not, then he shouldn't have doubted it. But since no notification appeared, he was now filled with doubt. Did he really steal the experience points successfully, or not?
But since there was nothing else he could do about it, Sakim moved to the next phase of his experiments. He then touched again the Ghost Fire as he muttered once again, "Steal!"
This time, instead of its experience points, Sakim intended to steal its stats. He didn't care whatever stat he would steal. As long as it was successful then there was nothing to be saddened about it.
But then, with another poof, the hologram screen he was expecting didn't appear. The frown on his face just didn't want to leave him as he kept wondering what was going on. Was that all? Did he finish stealing its stats already? But why the hell there was no reaction?
With doubts lingering in his mind, Sakim summoned the System. He hurriedly looked at the Status window only for his frown to deepen.

Where was the stat he had stolen? Did he really fail to steal the stats of that Ghost Fire? Sakim contemplated about it. How could his passive skill: Greed, that brag about its ability to steal everything, fail to steal something as simple as experience points and stats? Was the System broken?
Thankfully, after a few moments, Sakim suddenly recalled something. He'd just remembered that all of his stolen items were appearing in his Stolen Inventory. So if he really stole the experience points or the stats of that Ghost Fire successfully, it wouldn't add directly to his status but instead, would appear as an item in his Stolen Inventory.
With that in mind, Sakim hurriedly opened the Stolen Inventory window as he was hoping that the experience points or the stats he thought that he stole had turned into an item such as a card or something alike and were now lying silently in the Stolen Inventory.
But to his dismay, there were only five types of items that could be found in there. His trump card [Wrath Of Heaven], his souvenir [Devil Tree HP], the darkness he had stolen, the great amount of HP [Wrathful Rat HP], and lastly, the ax he had stolen from the Wrathful Rat. All of it was lying silently and there were no experience points or stat items that could be found at all.
Did he really fail to steal the experience points and stats of that Ghost Fire? Sakim couldn't believe it at all. Just where was the problem lies?
But then, thinking about it more carefully, it appeared that his passive skill: Greed had still had its limitation. Sakim narrowed his eyes as he pondered about the extent of the ability of his passive skill: Greed. And it didn't take long for him to have some assumptions.
Could it be that if he wanted to steal something, he really needed to have physical contact with the item itself and not just its owner? If that was the case, then there was no hope of stealing the experience points or stats anymore. After all, these things were intangible. How could Sakim touch it in the first place?
But the life or HP was intangible as well, right? Or perhaps not... Sakim pondered about it more carefully as he nodded in realization. It was not that he didn't touch the life or HP itself, but what he touched was the living where it was the life itself. In that case, he was able to steal the life or HP of a monster when he touched its living body.
After realizing this, Sakim could only sigh deeply again. It really was just a pity that his leisure way towards the top was could only be deemed as a dream right now. This outcome was really disappointing for him.
So then, since there was nothing he could do about the limitation of his passive skill, Sakim shifted his gaze at the Ghost Fire in front of him. His eyes flashed with a cold glint as a killing intent was exuded out from him. After killing many rats a while ago, his killing intent seemed to become stronger as only then did the Ghost Fire finally shown some movements. How could it not if it just felt its life in danger?
But instead of stealing its life, Sakim waved his right hand to the right side. After which, a huge ax appeared so suddenly in midair. While he was holding its handle, its blade fell on the ground and caused a strong impact. The ground then vibrated, the cave was shaken. Even the innocent Ghost Fire found it hard to move as its body kept trembling. Just who in the world was this monster in front of it? When did the other party appear?
"Now then," Sakim, on the other hand, was displeased this time. So to vent his annoyance, he let out the ax he had stolen from the Wrathful Rat as he intended to smash it against the Ghost Fire in front of him.
