Chapter 188: Side Character
Geez, talk about a depressing room… it's not even a room. I seem to be standing amongst trees at the foot of a mountain, although I smell… blood. Blood mixed with metal… hot metal. Also gasoline. That road trip made me very aware of both the smell of petrol and sweaty girls. It turns out that knowing self-cleansing magic is a rarity. I'm slowly approaching the smell, and it's just getting worse. The smell of burning corpses is disgusting. Sometimes I don't know why serial killers like using fire magic. It's absolutely abhorrent… the smell, not the murder part. That's just an average Mendass thing.
Oh, I've finally reached the source of the stench. It's a… car accident. That explains the smell of blood mixed with metal. Hmm… an adult male, an adult female, and a teen female. Talk about unfortunate… but what does this have to do with Melina?
"It has absolutely nothing to do with me." I turned around, finding Melina with a shackle around her neck. I kind of looks like the one Myka has… shackle sisters? "Don't associate me with her."
"Woah… cold." I could just hear the vitriol in her voice. Man… everyone seems to be hating Myka here… am I supposed to hate her too?
"You don't really have the emotional capabilities to hate people." Melina took out a remote and quickly pressed a button that changed our surroundings until it turned into a blank white space. "I was meant to stall you by going through my entire history, including the life and times of each Side Character persona, but I don't want any more part in this."
"I'd like to hear the history anyways." Knowledge is important, kids.
"I fucking told Myka I wanted out, that I hated being a Side Character, and yet she has the fucking gall to drag my family into this as well." She angrily threw the remote down to the ground before eventually calming down. She stared at me with resolved eyes, tossing a book towards me, which turned out to be this floor's key. "Beat her ass up, but don't kill her. I have so many fucking words and some actions on top of that I want to do to her."
"Aye aye, captain!"
"And don't worry about whatever the next person has to say. She's all bark and no bite."
And onto the next floor I went.
I am on top of a roundtable in the middle of a blank white void… why am I in another blank white void? Those tend to be very dull to look at. At least the roundtable isn't… never mind, it's boring, actually. Just a bunch of chairs with skeletons on them. I count… 15 skeletons, 2 empty chairs, and a random villager… she looks kind of familiar.
"Haa…" She sighs while playing around with a dagger firmly lodged into the table. "My name is Melika. Does that ring a bell?"
Melika… Melika… hmm… "Nope, doesn't ring a bell."
"Figures. We met when David The Insane's mansion burnt down. You had just revived somehow, and I was sharpening an arrow." She took the dagger out of the table and threw it at one of the empty chairs, which had a bow carved into it. "Does that ring any bells?"
"Nope, still no bells." I haven't even rung a bell in my life either. Speedy's summon bell doesn't count. It didn't even have the fun jingle part.
"Expected." She sighed again before her bored face turned into a sadistic smirk, her eyes looking at me as if she were expecting me to act up. "How about this? I was the one who whispered in your sweet little Mel's ear, making her fire an arrow at your mother and almost resulting in her death."
…
Before I knew it, I was on top of her, having knocked the chair she was sitting over and holding a dagger to her neck, having already made a shallow cut. Despite that, she still held the sadistic smile on her face, which seemingly grew bigger. Oh god… a sadomasochist?
"So you remember that… good enough for me. Feel free to kill me now." I was about to follow what she said but decided not to, cleaning my dagger and putting it away while getting off her. "Seriously? What if I said I plan on killing Mel and the other one? Huh?"
I thought about it for a minute before responding with a head shake. I looked at her dumbfounded face, which looked like she wanted to know why I didn't kill her. I need an excuse other than what Melina told me… I've got it! "If there's one thing I'm good at, it's not giving people what they want."
She stared wide-eyed at me before clicking her tongue. "Fuck you. You're no fun." She took out an actual key and a wooden stick and threw both at me, which I caught. "The key is for Melina's family and your stupid girlfriend."
Before I went to the next floor, I heard muttering about wanting to be memorable. Hmm… I think I'll just forget that. Onto the next floor I go.
I found myself on top of a familiar bed in a familiar room. A room with minimal decorations, although what very little there was, I knew exactly what it was. A bedside drawer, the remnants of chains, and a window that exposed a never-ending blank white void… damn, another blank white void. This room does have a door… and I know exactly where it went. It was connected to a house found in the middle of the Void and just so happened to be home to a fake God of Death and his omnipotent disciple. This should be relatively peaceful.
