Second Life: Welcome to Gaia

Chapter 82: Man-eating Flower

After Ye Yan opened his eyes, he immediately dodged, jumping to his right. If he had taken just one second long, he would be hit by a vine.

The monster attacking him wasn't an animal or an NPC, but a plant. It surely is a carnivorous plant, but different from any other that exists in the real world.

This carnivorous flower has a thick stem, large leaves, some vines coming out from the stem, aerial roots, and one spherical purple flower that splits in half, creating a huge mouth in the middle, full of thorns like fangs to trap prey.

When the flower is with its mouth closed, it looks like there are red lips on it, which may be this color from the blood of its victims.

When Ye Yan saw this carnivorous plant, he was surprised. He never imagined that his stalker would be a plant, even more so, because he didn't smell anything from it as what happens with big carnivorous plants. They usually give off a rotten smell to attract their victims.

Maybe because this plant has strong and long vines to catch prey and it can walk, there is no need for additional functions.

And different from the walking plant in real life, Socratea exorrhiza, which can only walk one meter a year, this carnivorous plant can walk extremely fast. It uses its vines to grab trees or other things and use them to propel it forward, and with this, it can reach around 2.5 meters per second or even a little more than that.

Ye Yan did a somersault while dodging and soon got to his feet, looking at the carnivorous plant that seen to have just get out of an old game.

While looking at the plant, some thoughts about jumping on top of the plant head tree times to kill it, passed through his mind.

Ye Yan shook his head to shoo away thoughts about an old game and concentrated on the battle, or he would turn into the flower next meal.

The carnivorous plant uses its many vines to attack Ye Yan in sequence. Every time he dodges one, another vine appears in his way, attacking him without mercy and not giving time for him to even breathe between his dodges.

He evades the vines with jumps, somersaults, tumbles, and star jumps. The way he was dodging make him looks like a gymnast or a cheerleader.

After a few seconds of dodging vines no stop, he finally could stop to breathe and identify the monster quickly. He wants to know the level and rank of this monster because it is the first time he has fought against a monster so strong. Not even the bosses from Hell Mode Dungeons can be compared with this plant in attack pattern.

Of course, a monster from Hell Mode has much more health points and defense than a normal monster, but he still can stop to take a breath a little. If they attacked Ye Yan in the same way this plant is doing now, no matter how many healers the party has, he would die for sure.

"Shit!" After looking at the basic info about the carnivorous plant in the scroll, Ye Yan couldn't help but curse.

Man-eating Flower hates the taste of chicken, that's why they don't eat elves because they taste like chicken. It absorbs the salts from its prey to nourish itself because it can't absorb them from the soil.

Ye Yan never thought he would stumble on a level 15 monster so soon. No wonder the plant was so strong. It makes him apprehensive but excited at the same time. To fight something that is six levels high than him will be a good challenge.

After Ye Yan barely finished reading, the vine attacks restarted, but they were even more ferocious this time.

Ye Yan decided to test the vine strength to see if he could deflect or defend against it because it will be harder if he has to fight the boss while have to dodge all the time.

Ye Yan opened his upgraded folding fan and used his left hand to support it while he tried to defend himself from the vine. Luckily, his body wasn't perfectly behind his fan or the vine would have been thrust by it. The vine was so strong that it pushed the fan out of the way and kept going forward.

He tried to deflect the vine with his close fan as well but it also wasn't successful because the flower strength is too much higher than his own.

While trying to deflect the vines, Ye Yan discovered that not only they are strong but they are also hard to cut, and even if he got to cut it, the man-eating flower looks to not have taken any damage.

Thus, he probably will have to attack its main body to inflicting damage upon it. The problem is how he can approach it with the nonstop vine attacks.

He needs to must all his power to dodge the vines. This battle will test his agility, dexterity, and strength, all at once.

He took a deep breath and rush at the man-eating flower while dodging the vines that come from all sides. Ye Yan ran at max speed, but it was draining his stamina quickly, so he decided to slow down a little or when he reached the boss he wouldn't be able to even jump to dodge.

As he slowed down a little, he had to depend more on his ability to evade attacks. Sometimes he jumped to dodge but e started to try a different dodge technique. However, it will consume too much mental power, making him exhausted faster.

Ye Yan concentrated, trying to use his basic instincts to help himself in battle in addition to his five senses. Only by mixing it together, he could achieve the use of the sixth sense in the battle.

After deciding on another strategy, he readily put it into practice, concentrated to use every one of his senses to the max.

Every time he felt the vines approaching him, he just shifted his body a little instead of dodge, jumping to the side. Sometimes, he shifted his body to the left, others to the right, and there are times that he bent the body back and forth.

As time passed, Ye Yan became more proficient in using this form of dodge. He even slowed more to save stamina for when he is near enough the monster to rush at it.

In the way he was acting in the fight, any onlooker would think Ye Yan was filming a movie and that later, the director would make his dodges in slow motion to create a special effect. Only the black leather clothes will be missing to give the final touch.

When Ye Yan was only 5 meters from the boss, he rushed at it, opened his fan, and started to slashing against the spherical flower with a mouth full of teeth.

He slashed the monster with his fan left and right while dodging the vines like he was performing a dance. He even spun a few times.

The boss, as a monster six levels higher than him, has very high defense and each hit took a maximum of 50HP per hit when using a skill. Thus, the battle would take a long time to end.

If Ye Yan gets too tired before the monster dies, the one who will die will be him.

To Ye Yan's surprise and amazement, he found out that the weak spot of the man-eating flower was the top of its head. Thus, he didn't resist and jumped on top of the flower, kicking it and sometimes turning upside down to slash it and landing on the ground soon after.

Despite the strain of the fight, Ye yan started to enjoy himself. It was like a living action of a classic game. Maybe he can even get a coin when the monster dies.

After a few minutes of kicking, the boss finally fell, but no coin appeared over his body and there is no tongue out of his mouth.

Seeing it, Ye Yan felt like something was missing but it is another game after all, and there is nothing he can do.

Ye Yan got a lot of vine from the man-eating flower, salt, thorns, and stem, that he stored in his bag.

After looting the monster, he entered through the opening in the rubble.

Inside, there is a short dark passage that he had to use the firefly in the bottle again to light his way through it. He just hopes that this is the right place and not a rabbit hole.
