Revenge pact

I'm just doing my job

Next day, 10AM

Academy's library.

Maxwell sat on the ground floor of the academy, a large leather-bound book resting on the wooden table before him.

"Argh..."He grunted, struggling to grasp the book's secrets and intricasies.

"Excuse me, you're being loud." A girl wearing thick glasses, scolded.

"Sorry..." He whispered.

The Divine Creation, a historic event that occured during the Great Migration Period. This is defined as the event in which the Titans, Greater Gods and Greater Devils created the Lesser Gods/Devils.

'Makes sense...' He commented.

The processes in which they used to create these deities varied; some were born from unions between the Greater Gods/Devils....

'So incest?' He shuddered.

While others were created by the Titan, using the same means he used to create the Greater Devils/Gods.

"This is confusing." Maxwell gripped his head, overwhelmed by the information.

Something of note, is that during this time period, the conflict between the Titan and its children began to grow, their differences becoming more apparent.

"Is that all? Where did the Devil God come from then?"

'What's next?'

The Titanic War...

"No! I'm sorry!"

Breaking Maxwell's focus was a sharp familiar feminine voice coming from the maze of books on his left.

'Hm? What's going on?' Maxwell frowned shifting his gaze towards the large shelf of books.

"Aren't you going to tell them to keep quiet too?" He asked the third year who had previously reprimanded him.

"Shut up." She said sternly.

'That's not very nice...'

'What's going on?' Using the scream of distress as an excuse to halt his studies, Maxwell stood up, intrigued to investigate the source of the problem.

"I wonder who's screaming so much." Maxwell stretched his limbs and approached the large shelf.

"You haven't paid this month's tax. Cough it up." A male's voice commanded.

"I don't have a-"

"Why do you first years make me do this?"

BAM

"Ah!"

'What the hell is happening?' Following the loud voices, Maxwell turned multiple corners, navigating the maze.

BAM

BAM

"I'm sorry, I'll pay double next month!" She screamed.

"What's going on here!" Maxwell dashed into the row of books, a solemn expression plastered his countenance.

Maxwell's brown eyes set on a tall, intimidating second-year student with short black hair and piercing yellow eyes. His mere presence sending a wave of unease through Maxwell's entire being.

"Hm? And who are you?" The male second-year growled.

"Maxwell Aster." Maxwell scowled, his eyes shifting towards the first-year girl with short brown hair and brown eyes sprawled on the ground.

"Hmmm... Aster? You're a commoner in Class 1A and a Rising Star." The second year said flatly.

"How do you know who I am?" He asked confuedly.

"It's my job kid... Now scram, this has nothing to do with you."

"Max, ru-" The girl on the ground screamed.

"You're being loud..." Fabianus stomped on the girl's hand.

THUD

"Ahh!" Paulla yelped

"What're you doing?!" Maxwell demanded, his anger steadily growing.

"Why do you care? " Fabianus asked flatly, his eyes locking on Maxwell.

"Answer my question, why're you hitting her!?" Maxwell repeated.

"She didn't pay her tax." Fabianus shrugged.

"Tax?" Maxwell arched his brows, perplexed.

"Yes, every student in the academy from classes E to B have to pay tax to the Second Year's 'Queen.'' Be grateful you don't have to." Fabianus explained.

"I've never heard of it..."

"Strength buys ignorance."Fabianus chuckled.

"Why do people have to pay tax?" Maxwell frowned, bothered by Paulla's pained expression.

"Because you're breathing the same air as the 'Queen.' " Fabianus shrugged.

"That's ridiculous. Leave her alone now!" Maxwell declared, raising his arms for battle.

"Sorry kid. Being weak has its prices...Don't think too much of it."

'This guy is ridiculous!'

"But Paulla can't afford it!"

"Then she shouldn't have been born weak."

"What?" Maxwell scowled, his Earthly Aura slowly seeping out.

DUMMM

"Don't tell me you think you actually have a chance kid?" Fabianus arched his brows.

"She's not going to pay your stupid tax!" Maxwell declared.

"Then I'll administer the punishment." Fabianus approached Paulla and raised his foot, ready to stomp on her head.

"Move away from her!"

"Kid, I'm just doing my job here. I won't tell you to leave again." Fabianus brought his foot down violently, targeting the girl's head.

WHOOSH

Halting Fabianus's attack, Maxwell flung his left leg towards the second year's leg, intercepting Fabianus's attack.

BAM

Determined to stop the second year, Maxwell launched the same foot toward Fabianus's neck.

Fabianus placed his foot back on the ground and raised his right arm to block Maxwell's attack.

BAM

"Don't be deluded kid." Fabianus thrust his left fist into Maxwell's stomach, forcing his opponent to expel saliva from his mouth.

BAM

"Argh!"

'He's strong!' Maxwell fought to stay consious, struggling to maintain his breathing.

"You may be in Class 1A, but that doesn't mean you can compete with me." Fabianus explained.

"Leave her alone." Maxwell grunted, taking a step back away from the second year.

'I need some space, this is bad.'

"Shut up... You're making this difficult." Fabianus sighed, flinging his own leg toward Maxwell's shoulder.

WHOOSH

'He's too fast!' Maxwell raised his arms in a sluggish attempt to block Fabianus's attack.

BAM

The force of the attack sent Maxwell tumbling into the bookshelf, causing dozens of books to fall down on top of him.

THUD

THUD

THUD

"Now that the pest is gone, I can get back to my job." Fabianus sharply exhaled, grabbing Paulla by her short brown hair.

"Kyaa!"

"Hey, I said leaver her alone!" Throwing the books off his body, Maxwell dashed toward the second year, ignoring th pain in his shoulder and abdomen.

"Hm? You're getting on my nerves kid." Fabianus turned around and crouched, swinging his leg at Maxwell and successfully sweeping the boy off his feet.

THUD

"Argh!" Maxwell fell with a loud thud, damaging the wooden floorboard.

'What just happened?!'

"You're in my way, get up." Using his right foot, Fabianus kicked Maxwell in the stomach, sending him flying into the shelf once more.

CRACK

"That should be enough..." Approaching Paulla once more, Fabianus bent his back so that he could reach for her hair once more.

"Didn't I tell you to leave her alone?" Maxwell growled, gripping the second year's shirt.

"Okay now I'm pissed." Fabianus declared, swinging his arm to strike him on his cheek.

WACK

This time Fabianus refused to give Maxwell the opportunity to oppose him.

He grabbed him by the neck and threw him at the shelf.

BAM

The second-year continued the attack, hurling his fist into Maxwell's stomach, doubling him over.

BAM

With a frightening left hook, he proceeded to break Maxwell's jaw.

CRACK

Fabianus then used his opposite elbow to launch another attack, shattering Maxwell's nose, sending blood in every direction.

SPLURT

Intending to finish off the stubborn first year, Fabianus delivered a headbutt to Maxwell's forehead, fracturing his skull.

CRACK

Determined to instill a lesson in the first year, Fabianus grabbed Maxwell by the face, palming his entire face.

'This is bothersome.' Tightening his grip, Fabianus bashed Maxwell's head into the shelf, causing more books to fall to the ground.

BAM

"Why do this to yourself? Why sacrifice your own well being for someone else?" Fabianus frowned, bashing the boy's head into the wooden structure once more.

BAM

"I'm not... you're hurting my peer. Why would I stand by and watch?" Maxwell muttered, his words muffled by both the blood in his mouth and the second year's hand.

"Well, it's none of your business. Be grateful you're not in her predicament. You're the source of your own pain." He bashed the boy's head in once more.

BAM

SPLURT

"It is my business... And it's also yours, how would you feel if you had to pay 'tax' for no reason."

BAM

SPLURT

"I am in her predicament, I also have to pay tax. The difference is I pay on time." Fabianus shook his head, lifting the boy's body of the ground using his head as a handle.

"You can afford it. Why do the same to her?"

"Because its my job, I'm merely fulfilling the 'Queen's' will." Fabianus looked at the first year blankly, his yellow eyes studying Maxwell's entire being.

"Fuck your qu-"

Fabiano threw Maxwell head first onto the ground, sending both blood and wooden splinters flying everyone.

SPLURT

SHATTER

"Watch your mouth kid, that kind of talk will get you killed." Fabianus shook his head, turning away from the bleeding boy on the ground.

"Hey..." Struggling to form the words, Maxwell gripped Fabianus's shoulder, his consiousness leaving him rapidly.

"Hm?" Fabianus turned to face the boy once more.

In a desperate attempt, Maxwell threw a pathetic punch aimed at the second year's chin.

"This is just bothersome." Fabianus sighed, evading the attack without much effort.

Shutting the boy up permamently, Fabianus propelled a uppercut towards Maxwell's jaw.

SHATTER

Choking on his own blood and his head throbbing constantly, Maxwell fell to the groud, his consiousness long gone.

THUD

"It's nothing personal kid, just busine-" When he turned his back on Maxwell to resume the attack on Paulla, Fabianus noticed she was gone…
