Chapter 200: Restart, Spider-Man! [200]
"Good. Now things are getting interesting."
Thanos once again discarded his double-edged blade, his fists surging with power.
Boom!
The purple fist, the size of a sandbag, loomed large in Xia Luo's vision, carrying enough force to pulverize a tank.
But Xia Luo merely tilted his head, letting the wind from the punch graze past his ear.
At the same time, his own punch missed as Thanos deftly sidestepped.
BOOM!
The sound of their fists colliding sent shockwaves rippling across the altar. The ground cracked under their raw strength, and the hellfire that attempted to repair the damage could barely keep up. Piece by piece, the altar was torn apart.
"Argh!!"
Thanos let out a furious roar, his purple fist blasting through a cloud of rubble as Xia Luo launched into the air. He kicked away the incoming debris and followed up with a spinning kick, only to have it caught mid-air by Thanos's massive hand.
"Got you," Thanos growled, gripping Xia Luo's ankle.
The same old line.
Xia Luo's eyes glimmered.
The next moment, Thanos swung Xia Luo's body like a rag doll, aiming to smash him into the ground.
That might've worked on the old Xia Luo.
But not this time.
Everything Thanos could do, Xia Luo had already learned.
Thwip!
Webbing shot out, latching onto Thanos's face. As the Titan faltered, distracted, Xia Luo fired another web toward a distant stone wall.
Clack!
BOOM!
Using the web as leverage, Xia Luo's leg muscles surged with power, and in a flash, he reversed the momentum, hurling Thanos through the air.
"What?"
Mid-air, Thanos's expression twisted in disbelief. Something was off.
Before he could recover, Xia Luo rocketed toward him, launched by his webbing slingshot.
BAM!
Bap-bap-bap!
Xia Luo unleashed a flurry of punches and kicks in rapid succession. His blows landed like hammer strikes on Thanos's purple hide, each impact sending ripples through the Titan's flesh.
Under the relentless assault, Thanos crashed to the ground, battered and bruised.
"My turn!"
Ignoring the pain, Thanos roared and swung a retaliatory punch, but Xia Luo easily dodged it.
Though Thanos was fast, Spider-Man was faster.
In the eyes of the stunned audience, Xia Luo seemed to predict Thanos's every move.
He ducked under a second punch, countering with a series of attacks: punches, knees, elbows, even a headbutt.
Finally, Xia Luo locked his arm around Thanos's neck and slammed him into the ground.
CRACK!
Thanos's skull hit the fractured altar, scattering debris.
For the first time, Thanos looked genuinely bewildered, staring up at Spider-Man in shock.
The audience was equally stunned.
"What just happened?"
"Did Thanos just lose?"
"No way! It can't be this easy!"
"Wait a minute…"
Loki's eyes widened as he pieced it together.
"The way he moves—that's the Titan Combat Style! Thanos's own martial arts!"
"What?"
The revelation sent shockwaves through the crowd.
"How could an Earthling learn a galactic-level combat technique?"
"Only Titans can fully utilize that fighting style's potential. Is he…"
"Oh my god! Unless Thanos taught him personally, how could Spider-Man possibly know this?"
"This doesn't make any sense!"
The gasps and murmurs were cut short as Thanos regained his composure.
"Spider," he asked, his voice heavy with suspicion. "Who taught you this?"
Xia Luo smirked. "Why, Thanos, of course."
With that, Xia Luo grabbed Thanos and flung him into the air.
WHAM!
Following up, he launched a powerful kick that sent the Titan crashing into a wall of rubble.
Crash!
Stones tumbled as Thanos pulled himself free, brushing the dust from his shoulders.
"I see now. But if this is all you've got, you'll never defeat me."
"Then how about this?"
Xia Luo held up his hand, and shimmering magical webbing appeared between his fingers.
"Huh?"
In an instant, the enchanted webbing tightened around Thanos, binding his massive frame.
As Xia Luo yanked on the web, the threads dug into Thanos's purple skin, carving out small shards of his soul.
"Argh!!"
Thanos howled in pain, thrashing wildly, but the webbing held firm.
If Thanos still had his physical body, the webbing might've only restrained him for a moment.
But here, in Hell, where his soul was his only form, the enchanted webbing proved devastatingly effective.
In the midst of the crowd's shocked gasps, Xia Luo closed in with a mischievous grin hidden beneath his mask.
"Time to put some dust in your eye!"
"No!!"
WHAM!
Xia Luo slammed Thanos's head into the stone wall, sending a cloud of dust flying.
Before Thanos could react, his face was ground mercilessly against the jagged surface.
The crowd erupted in chaos.
"No!! The Mad Titan shouldn't be humiliated like this!!"
Chitauri soldiers clutched their heads, wailing.
"This is perfect! Absolutely perfect!!"
Loki pumped his fists in excitement, jumping up and down.
"Yes! Keep going! Do it! Use that move—quick, use it!"
Under Loki's fervent gaze, Xia Luo grabbed Thanos by the ankle.
BAM!
Wham-wham-wham!
He swung the Titan's hulking body like a wrecking ball, slamming him repeatedly into the altar.
"Oh yes! YES!!"
Loki's face turned crimson with delight. "That's it! That's incredible! I love you, Spider! I love you!!"
Meanwhile, Wade had an epiphany. Turning to the other Deadpools, he declared, "It's fan service time! Cheer for our idol!"
"Oh!"
"Hell yeah!!"
The stands descended into a frenzy.
On the altar, Xia Luo casually tossed Thanos to the ground.
"Mad Titan?"
He loomed over his opponent.
Feeling the malice in Xia Luo's gaze, Thanos's own eyes burned with fury.
He wiped away the glowing fragments of his soul leaking from his lips and rose to his feet with a heavy punch.
BOOM!
This time, Xia Luo didn't dodge.
He braced against Thanos's fist, catching it with both hands. The sheer force cracked the altar beneath his feet, reducing the stone to dust.
Hellfire flickered in the cracks, struggling to repair the damage.
Thanos narrowed his eyes.
This felt… familiar.
What's this bug trying to pull?
Before he could land a decisive blow, Xia Luo leaned forward.
"All right," he said softly.
"Time to end this."
Zzt-zzt!
Electric arcs crackled as Xia Luo vanished.
BOOM!
A heavy fist slammed into the ground, and Thanos staggered back momentarily.
Before he could regain his footing, arcs of electricity crackled as Xia Luo darted around him in rapid circles. From every direction, crystalline webs shot forth, quickly binding the Titan's massive arms.
Zzt-zzt!
Xia Luo leaped into the air, twisting the webbing into a knot with one hand while using the other to yank Thanos's double-edged blade from the ground.
BOOM!
The red-and-blue blur ascended with the massive blade, swinging it downward with a forceful arc. Thanos's pupils shrank in terror as the blade descended toward him.
Faced with the threat of a second death, Thanos's face twisted in pain and rage. Ignoring the webs slicing into his flesh, he mustered all his strength to pull against the bindings on his arms.
Just as the blade's edge grazed his shoulder, Thanos's hands finally clamped onto its weathered surface.
Shhhk!
The blade bit deep into his shoulder, tearing into the purple flesh and spilling shards of his soul into the air.
"ARGHHHH!!"
Thanos roared in agony, his grip tightening on the blade as he tried to pull it free.
"You said no weapons!" he bellowed.
Xia Luo pressed his weight onto the blade, driving it deeper.
"I said I wouldn't use my weapon," he replied with a grin. "I never said I wouldn't use yours."
Thanos's composure finally snapped.
"Damn bug! You conniving little bastard! You tricked me!!"
Xia Luo pushed harder, and Thanos let out another pained scream.
From the stands, Gamora watched with clenched fists, her expression unreadable.
"Is this finally it?" she whispered.
Her mind drifted back to her childhood, recalling the horrors of Thanos's massacres.
He deserved to die.
But even as she told herself this, her memories betrayed her.
As a child, she had seen him sit silently on his throne after each slaughter.
He seemed… pained, as if mourning the lives he had taken.
But no, she reminded herself—Thanos couldn't feel remorse. He was a monster who delighted in death.
Or was he?
Her thoughts shifted to Vormir, where she had seen him cry.
It wasn't possible.
Thanos didn't love anyone.
Yet he had sacrificed her for the Soul Stone—proof, perhaps, that she had been wrong.
The deafening cheers from the audience snapped her back to reality.
On the altar, Thanos's soul fragments scattered into the wind as his strength faded.
The Titan, now kneeling, could barely stay upright.
Once again, he faced the void.
This time, he wouldn't return.
Instinctively, Thanos's gaze turned to the stands. He locked eyes with Gamora.
Though filled with regret, his expression softened into one of acceptance.
"I'll finally be free," he murmured.
Gamora's hands trembled as she turned away.
"Tell me," Xia Luo said, his glowing eyes unwavering. "What do I gain by defeating you?"
Thanos managed a grim smile.
"Kill me, and you'll find out."
"Fine."
Without hesitation, Xia Luo's nano-suit surged with crimson energy.
Zzzzzzt!
With a sharp crack, the blade plunged deeper, carving through Thanos's chest.
"ARGHHHH!!"
Thanos's screams echoed, fading into silence as he slumped forward.
His body, now lifeless, scattered into shimmering soul dust.
The Mad Titan was no more.
"Dead!"
"He's truly dead!"
Loki leaped to his feet, cheering with glee.
Gamora, however, remained silent as she walked away from the hellish coliseum.
"Gamora!"
Nebula called after her, catching up quickly.
"How are you holding up?"
"I'm fine," Gamora replied coldly. "Thanos is gone. I'm… happy."
But her hollow voice betrayed her words.
Before she could leave the arena entirely, she spotted an elderly man with a shield stepping into the projection room.
"You're… Captain America?" Gamora asked, frowning.
She vaguely remembered seeing files on him among Thanos's archives—though this man was far older than she expected.
"Gamora?" Old Man Steve asked, equally surprised. "What are you doing here?"
Gamora offered no reply, brushing past him.
Nebula followed, sparing the elder Captain only a brief glance.
Steve noticed her mechanical frame and instinctively tensed, but seeing no threat, he let them pass without incident.
Once alone, Steve turned his attention to the projections.
Onscreen, Spider-Man stood victorious over Thanos's crumpled form.
"Kid!" Steve exclaimed, astonished. "And… Thanos?"
Natasha entered behind him, her expression grim as she joined Barton and Parker in watching the scene.
"That's the same Thanos who wiped out half the universe," Natasha murmured.
"How is this possible?"
Barton frowned. "Thanos from the past was erased by Tony. There shouldn't be any version of him left."
"Barton," Natasha interjected, "we also erased memories and restored the timeline. This might not be our timeline's Thanos."
"Then how do you explain Gamora and Nebula being here?" Barton countered.
Natasha paused, unable to answer.
Steve sighed. "Multiverse theory explains it all. Simple."
"Multiverse?" Natasha gave him a sidelong glance. "Then you could be an alternate Steve who just happens to look like ours."
Steve scratched his head. "I didn't read enough about this stuff. Don't confuse me."
"Maybe you should've read more," Natasha quipped. "You wouldn't be so gullible."
Meanwhile, Peter Parker stared at the projection in awe.
He had fought alongside the Avengers against Thanos and knew firsthand how terrifying the Titan could be.
But now, seeing Spider-Man defeat him…
"Could I be that strong one day?"
His thoughts were interrupted by the projection's next scene.
Hellfire erupted from the altar, consuming it entirely.
As the platform crumbled, the audience erupted into cheers.
"Someone finally cleared it!"
"Who's Spider-Man's next opponent?"
But instead of moving upward, Xia Luo leaped downward into the next level.
"Oh…"
The crowd grew quiet as realization set in.
Reaching the next altar, Xia Luo glanced around.
Now, he understood.
