Reincarnation In Smallville

Chapter 48: Diana’s Determination [48]

Clark looked at Diana, noticing the genuine curiosity in her eyes but also the intensity of her beliefs. He knew that revealing the full truth about his origin and powers might be too much for her to accept at once. Moreover, the Amazon distrust of men made everything even more complicated. He decided that, for now, it was better to keep certain information secret.

"There's a lot about me that's hard to explain, especially to someone who's never left this island," Clark said, softening his expression. "But I hope that, in time, you can understand who I truly am."

Diana stared at him, her curiosity increasingly evident. She wanted to know more about the world beyond Themyscira, especially since Clark seemed so evasive about himself. Perhaps, if she asked about the outside, he'd feel more comfortable talking.

"And what about the world out there? What's it like living outside of Themyscira?" Diana asked, trying to sound casual, though her eyes revealed a glimmer of anticipation.

Clark smiled slightly, understanding what she was trying to do. He knew Diana was using an indirect approach to get information about him. The problem was that he didn't know exactly what was happening outside the island, having come from another universe. All he had was a vague suspicion that this era might coincide with World War I.

Clark discreetly pointed toward the cell gate, where two guards stood watch, vigilant. "Maybe we can have this conversation without an audience," Clark suggested, trying to keep a friendly tone.

Diana frowned, confused. She looked at the guards, then back at Clark, trying to understand what he really wanted. On the one hand, her curiosity about the outside world tempted her to talk with him alone. On the other hand, she knew she shouldn't hide anything from her Amazon sisters. It was against her principles and could be seen as a betrayal of her mother's and the other warriors' trust.

She hesitated for a moment, but curiosity ultimately prevailed. Diana stood up and walked over to the guards, trying not to appear undecided. "I need you to step away for a moment," she said, keeping her voice firm.

The guards exchanged glances and shook their heads in refusal. "We're here under orders from the queen, princess," one of them replied, her voice filled with determination. "We can't leave the prisoner unsupervised."

...

"I need you to step away for a moment."

The guards exchanged glances and shook their heads in refusal. "We're here under orders from the queen, princess," one of them replied, her voice filled with determination. "We can't leave the prisoner unsupervised."

"Unsupervised?" Diana asked, with a look of displeasure. "I am the princess of Themyscira and the best among all warriors. No one is more capable than I am to guard this prisoner. Step away."

The guards exchanged glances again, reluctant, but eventually complied. They stepped away slowly, keeping a safe distance but moving out of direct sight of Clark and Diana.

Diana returned to Clark, crossing her arms. "I've fulfilled your request. The guards have stepped back. Now, speak."

Clark pondered for a moment, thinking about how to approach the topic without going into detail about his true origin. He knew the best way to handle this was to speak superficially, giving a general idea of what was happening in the world but without revealing too much.

"The world out there… is complicated," Clark began, choosing his words carefully. "There are places where people live in peace, but also places in conflict. In some areas, there are wars, while others enjoy harmony. The world is vast, and each part is different from the other."

Diana looked thoughtful, absorbing Clark's words. She seemed to be reflecting on what he had said, and Clark got the impression that his answer wouldn't be enough to satisfy her curiosity.

However, after a few seconds, Diana nodded, as if she'd reached a conclusion. "Hmm… so there is war in the world of men… Ares must be influencing these conflicts. That makes sense."

Clark was visibly relieved to see that Diana was satisfied with his response. He relaxed a bit, allowing himself to breathe more calmly.

'In the end, everything revolves around the gods,' Clark thought, shaking his head slightly.

Diana suddenly stood up, a renewed determination in her eyes. "If Ares is behind these wars, we need to be prepared. I cannot allow him to continue causing destruction."

Clark stood up, realizing that Diana was about to leave the cell. "Where do you think you're going?" Clark asked, trying to understand what was on the princess's mind.

Diana looked at him firmly. "I'm going to speak with my mother. I want to ask permission to go to the world of men and help them fight Ares."

Clark shook his head, finding the idea impulsive. 'Diana barely knows the world outside. She has no idea how to find what she's looking for. She would end up being captured or getting lost,' he thought.

"You don't know the countries, nor do you have enough information. How do you think your mother — who, by the way, despises men and only cares about what happens on this island — will allow you to leave?" Clark questioned, trying to make Diana think.

Diana remained silent for a moment, absorbing Clark's words. She knew he was right, but the idea of stopping Ares and protecting the world of men motivated her to move forward. Even after considering it, she didn't reach a definitive conclusion. Determined, she decided she would need to speak to her mother regardless.

Diana turned and left the cell without saying another word. Clark watched her go, still finding her decision impulsive. He knew that convincing Queen Hippolyta would be a challenge and that Diana would need more than just determination to get what she wanted.

Clark waited a few seconds, but seeing the cell open and unattended, he decided to follow Diana. He exited calmly, noticing Diana's confusion when she saw him just behind her.

Diana stopped, frowning. "What are you doing? Why did you leave the cell?"

Clark couldn't help but find her expression amusing. "Who usually stayed locked in cells?" he asked, with a playful smile.

Diana crossed her arms, still confused. "The sisters who did something wrong. Sometimes, even I ended up locked up."

Clark raised an eyebrow, surprised. "And no one ever tried to leave when the cell was open and without guards?"

Diana shook her head, seeming offended by the suggestion. "No Amazon would dare disobey the queen's orders. Even if the cell were open, none of us would try to escape."

Clark chuckled lightly, noticing the cultural difference between himself and the Amazons. "Well, maybe I'm not so different from the men your mother fears so much. I'm more curious and… a bit less obedient."

Diana watched him for a moment, her gaze still carrying suspicion but also curiosity. She didn't know what to expect from Clark, but one thing was certain: he wasn't like any man she had ever known, or at least that her mother had described. With a sigh, she shrugged and continued walking. "Just follow me, but don't you dare do anything that will make me change my mind about you."

Clark nodded, following Diana toward the palace. He knew that gaining her and the Amazons' trust would take time, but he was determined to show that not all men were as they imagined.
