The Shiba household had a serene aura, brimming with a sense of duty, discipline, and familial warmth. Kengo Shiba, the patriarch of the clan and the revered Captain of the 10th Division, was the personification of these values. His stern demeanor, sharpened by years of responsibility and strategic warfare, was counterbalanced by the warmth in his eyes, especially when he was with his family.
The morning sun had fully emerged now, its radiant golden rays illuminating the streets of Seireitei. Kazuki had barely finished his breakfast when Kengo stepped forward, ready to take him to the Shin'o Academy. His dark, greying hair was tied back, with a few stray locks cascading over his stern features. His sharp, piercing gaze was fixed on Kazuki, reflecting a mixture of anticipation and concern.
"Let's get moving, Kazuki," Kengo said, his deep voice reverberating through the dining area. He straightened his captain's haori, its white fabric decorated with the emblem of the 10th Division.
"Yes, Kengo-san," Kazuki replied, standing up from the low table and bowing slightly. Even though he had only been at the Shiba household for a short time, he felt an inexplicable sense of respect for Kengo. His stoic demeanor and insightful words commanded Kazuki's admiration, a trait that was undoubtedly shared by the rest of the Shiba clan and the 10th Division.
As they traversed the cobblestone streets of Seireitei towards the academy, Kengo spoke up, breaking the quiet of the morning. "Kazuki," he began, his voice steady and thoughtful, "Remember that the academy will test more than just your skill with the Zanpakuto. It will test your spirit, your resolve, and your understanding of what it means to be a Shinigami."
Kazuki nodded, listening intently to Kengo's words. He felt a surge of anticipation tightening in his stomach, along with a newfound sense of determination. He knew that attending the academy was a vital step towards understanding his past, and more importantly, defining his future.
As they reached the gates of the academy, Kazuki could see a number of young souls hustling about. He could sense a certain tension in the air, a mix of excitement, anticipation, and nervousness. It was an atmosphere he was unfamiliar with, yet he was eager to dive into it headfirst.
Upon entering the academy's registration office, Kengo and Kazuki were greeted by a receptionist. Her eyes widened in surprise as she recognized Kengo. "Captain Shiba, we weren't expecting you today," she said, quickly standing to bow.
"I am here on a personal matter," Kengo replied, gesturing towards Kazuki. "This is Kazuki. He'll be joining the academy."
The receptionist turned her gaze towards Kazuki, assessing him with curious eyes. "Very well," she said, a small smile playing on her lips.
The Seireitei buzzed with whispers as the intimidating figure of Kengo Shiba, Captain of the 10th Division and Patriarch of the Shiba Clan, walked into the registration office of the academy. The hushed murmurs were a mix of respect and surprise. Kengo was a sight to behold, his towering form clad in the elegant white haori of a captain, the emblem of the 10th Division emblazoned on its back.
Following behind him, a stark contrast in his simple attire, was a young man with striking silver hair and sky-blue eyes. His posture was poised and confident, his gaze calm and resolute, but there was an air of unfamiliarity about him. He looked nothing like the dark-haired, sharp-eyed members of the Shiba clan, a fact that hadn't escaped the notice of the intrigued onlookers.
The receptionist, a petite woman with soft brown eyes, had managed to regain her composure after recognizing Kengo. She bowed respectfully to the Captain and turned her attention to the young man. "May I have your name, please?" she asked, her fingers poised over the registration scroll.
Before the young man could respond, Kengo spoke, his deep voice echoing throughout the room. "He is Kazuki. Kazuki Shiba."
The room fell silent, the echo of Kengo's words hanging in the air. The receptionist blinked in surprise, her pen hovering in mid-air. A Shiba? The surprise was evident in the eyes of everyone present. The Shiba clan was relatively small, and each member was well known within Seireitei. But no one had heard of a Shiba named Kazuki.
Seeing the confusion on the receptionist's face, Kengo's stern features softened ever so slightly. "Kazuki has been staying with us for a while now. He's part of our family," he explained, his gaze never leaving the young man by his side.
A murmur went through the crowd. It wasn't common for the Shiba clan to adopt members, and never had Kengo publicly acknowledged someone as a Shiba in such a manner. His declaration stirred a wave of speculation, but no one dared to question the decision of the respected Captain.
Kazuki's eyes widened a fraction, surprise evident in his expression. Kengo had always been welcoming, but for him to acknowledge Kazuki as a Shiba was unexpected. His heart swelled with gratitude, a warmth spreading through him as he silently thanked the stern-faced captain.
The receptionist snapped out of her stunned silence, quickly jotting down Kazuki's name. "Welcome to the Shin'o Academy, Kazuki Shiba-san," she said with a courteous bow, a mix of curiosity and admiration in her eyes.
Kengo gave a nod of approval before turning to Kazuki. "Remember what I told you, Kazuki," he said, placing a firm hand on the young man's shoulder. "You're not just learning techniques here. You're learning to uphold the spirit of the Shinigami. Make the Shiba name proud."
Kazuki felt a surge of determination at Kengo's words. He straightened his posture, meeting Kengo's gaze with a firm resolve. "I will, Kengo-san," he responded, his voice steady.
Despite the commotion in the registration office, the rest of the academy was strikingly serene. The Shiba clan was indeed prominent, but the commoners didn’t seem too perturbed by the turn of events. As Kengo took his leave, wishing Kazuki the best for the briefing, he received a summons from Captain Yamamoto. Kengo wasn’t surprised; as a senior Shinigami and Captain, it was a regular occurrence to be consulted about academy matters, particularly at the onset of a new semester.
