Chapter 83: Viel, Alone Again?
Different groups of people were hanging out, separated by tables. Most of the people were rugged, with their weapons placed on their tables and their drinks on their hands.
The groups were minding each other's business and doing their own thing. Laughing, fighting, or planning their next quests.
But everything changed when a golden-haired youth entered from the door. Suddenly, the entire hall became quiet, not even a sip of booze could be heard.
But as soon as the golden-haired youth started to walk farther inside.
"Is she a noble?"
"Of course she is, she even has an escort"
"What the hell is a noble doing here?"
"Probably wants to play or something, lots of those going around these days"
"Why is she wearing boy's clothing?"
"Tch. These nobles think they could walk around anywhere"
"Sssh, might hear you"
"Let them!"
"Do you want your head cut off!?"
"Psh, my head being cut off by them or the elves, what difference does it make"
In just a few steps, all sorts of rumors and whispers scattered about Viel. Ilrina, who was beside him, was trying her best not to make a scene. She was currently being surrounded by adventurers, which some, most probably have quests to subjugate elves.
Viel started to look around, the adventurers that were talking about him were careful not to meet his gaze. Viel's eyes then stopped as soon as he saw a board plastered with a bunch of papers. He approached the board and started to examine all the papers that were stuck on it.
"Oh, is she actually here to personally make a request? That would make more sense"
"Hmp, I really thought she wanted to be an adventurer"
"Pft, adventurer my assicles, I'd show her an adventur-"
And then, the golden-haired youth suddenly ripped a piece of paper from the board.
"What!? She was already an adventurer!?", most of the people that were whispering about Viel simultaneously stood up. But then they all sat down as they all looked at each other awkwardly.
The golden-haired youth then approached the receptionist and showed her the paper she was holding.
"G-good day, are you here to take this quest?", the receptionist was careful with her words. The golden-haired youth in front of her was definitely a noble, she thought.
But then confusion quickly came to her when she saw the request that the golden-haired youth was trying to accept.
This was a quest… for a guild. The golden-haired youth probably took the request with the most reward, she thought.
"T-this quest is only for a bigger party. You can't accept it", even though the receptionist was nervous, she still remembered to speak with respect. She was currently thinking, out of all the receptionists here, why did this noble have to make trouble with her?
The golden-haired youth then furrowed his eyebrows.
"You dare deny the Great Spirit this request!?", seeing Viels disappointed expression, Ilrina quickly scolded the lady, which made her almost jump from her counter.
"No! Not at all!", she quickly bowed.
The golden-haired youth waved her hand, signaling that it was alright. This made the receptionist instantly breathe a sigh of relief.
The golden-haired youth then proceeded to pick another quest from the board and once again placed it on the counter.
Seeing the request that Viel chose, the receptionist's eyes could not help but twitch. It was another quest with a high reward, but…
"D-do you have a Gold license?"
"Gold!?"
Once again, the eavesdroppers could not help but stand up as they heard the receptionist. Could this little cross-dressing lady actually be a Gold rank adventurer!? They all shouted in their minds.
Hearing something unexpected from the receptionist, Viel's eyes could not help but widen.
"How dare you request a Gold license from the Great-"
Before Ilrina could finish her yapping, Viel once again raised his hand. He then slowly reached for something in his pocket.
Could this little lady really be a Gold rank adventurer!? The eavesdroppers were getting more and more curious, if one were to look closer, their tables were actually getting nearer to the counter.
But the thing that Viel was reaching for was not a license of any sort, it was a small pouch, which he then proceeded to place on the table.
Seeing the golden-haired youth slowly pushing the bag towards her, the receptionist could not help but once again be filled with confusion.
What was she supposed to do with this, she thought. She then noticed the golden-haired youth looking at her with expectant eyes.
"I-is this for me?", the receptionist asked awkwardly.
Seeing the golden-haired youth nod his head, she then proceeded to open that bag, with the contents shining on her face.
The onlookers' eyes became sharp.
The receptionist, however, became devoid of all excitement as she stared at the bag of sweets and candies she was holding.
Is this little lady trying to bribe me with candies!? She looked at the golden-haired youth, only to find her with an excited look on her face.
…Why are nobility so weird, the receptionist thought.
"I heard there was a noble causing a ruckus here!"
It was then that a huge man that was wearing a bulky armor barged from the entrance of the hall.
"This, isn't this the Silver rank hunter, Mighty Might!?"
The Silver rank adventurer, Mighty Might, quickly walked towards the counter, towards Viel and Ilrina.
As soon as Ilrina saw the man approaching, she quickly went behind Viel, blocking the bulky man's path.
Really, what is with this cliché scenario, Ilrina could not help but comment.
With his path blocked, annoyance quickly filled Mighty Might's face. They dare block a Silver ranked adventurer's way!? He thought.
"You dar- UGH!"
Before Mighty Might could even talk, his body flew like a cannon, butt first, directly throwing him outside of the building.
"…"
"T-that was brutal! She did not even allow him to talk!"
They all saw it, even though it was quick, they all saw the golden-haired youth throwing a punch straight to Mighty Might's… groin.
"I hate pedophiles", said the golden-haired youth. Ilrina crossed her arms as she nodded repeatedly.
The first time they hear her talk, and these are the first words she says! As expected of a noble lady! All the onlookers thought. But they could not help but be in awe as well, for the golden-haired youth to easily dispatch Mighty Might- was she really a Gold rank adventure
They did not need to see Might Might for them to know that he was currently foaming from his mouth. All of the onlookers had a collective thought, it was a good thing they did not approach this cross-dressing little lady.
Besides Mighty Might, the one that was most troubled was the receptionist. What was she supposed to do now? Maybe she should have just stayed on the farm in the country side and helped her mother to tend to the cows, she thought.
But once again, the golden-haired youth looked towards her with expectant eyes while pushing the quest pamphlet towards her.
When Mighty Might arrived, she could not help but be relieved, thinking that someone was finally going to save her from this crisis. But alas, it did not last long.
Seeing that piece of paper getting closer and closer to her, it was like it was the longest second of her life. She started to tremble and sweat, repeatedly wishing for this situation to end.
And it would seem that her prayers were answered, as someone once again barged from the door.
Princess Sofia, the great Royal Spectacled Beautiful Mage. Secretly dubbed by the adventurers as the Crazy Witch.
"…", at this point, the receptionist just wished for someone to kill her already.
"What are you doing here!?", Princess Sofia started to stride towards Viel.
The adventurers that previously moved their tables closer towards the counter, started to recede one by one. Getting intrigued by nobles? That's fine. But getting involved with Royalty, specially with the Crazy Witch? No, that's suicide.
"Tell the guards if you are leaving the castle, or at least leave a note!", the Princess started waving her hand.
Seeing the Princess approaching, Viel could only sigh as he momentarily closed his eyes. And then, the surrounding area near him started to light up.
"What!? T-that's a teleportation spell!", Princess Sofia's strides became faster, "You're leaving!?"
Ilrina could not help but gasp in exictement, "G-great Spirit!? Are we finally leaving!?"
"I thought we bonded!? I taught you the basics of controlling your power! I held your head close to my heart!", Princess Sofia shouted.
"!!!", for the onlookers who was not aware of the context, this was some juicy gossip.
As the light started to get brighter and brighter, Viel once again looked at the receptionist, "Miss, where's the next Adventurer's Guild?"
"T-there's a small one down south…", faced with the sudden question, the receptionist could not help but answer instinctively.
"South…", Viel whispered. He then faced Sofia, who had a panicked expression on her face.
"Thank you for teaching me, miss Sofia", Viel bowed towards her, "I will never forget this debt".
"Wait, you're really leaving!?"
Ilrina crossed her arms as she stared at Princess Sofia. "Next time we meet, Princess, it will be in war", said said Ilrina, her expression and words full of dignity.
"W-wait, I paid 5000 gold coins for you!", Sofia rushed. But she stopped just an inch away from the teleportation area, as it was dangerous to get caught in it, "P-please don't leave!", said Sofia as her eyes started to moist.
But all her qualms were in vain as the light disappeared, and with it, Viel.
…Leaving behind a dumbfounded Ilrina on the side.
"…"
An awkward silence filled the room as Princess Sofia and Ilrina stared at each other.
---
Viel suddenly appeared from a bright flashing light. He could not help but sigh as he looked at the city wall and the towering castle from the distance.
In his eyes, there was a sort of longing. But before it could grow, he turned away.
He then slightly raised his palm, and in front of him, words appeared.
[Objective: Kill the Mother of Treants!]
And with a deep sigh, he quickly closed his hand.
"Well, off to the south!", Viel said, not knowing that he was actually walking towards the north.
