Ch-51-Saintess
Focusing on the evolution option, a new menu popped up.
[Saintess Kitsune of the Vulcanic Inferno (One-Tailed)]
{Only one Saintess of each element can appear in the kitsune race at a time. However, You break this convention because of the element of fire's favor towards you. While choosing this option would normally cause the elements of water and wood to no longer favor you, they have heard of your intention and have all chosen to assist you in this endeavor.}
{By choosing this option, your tail will be aspected towards Primordeal Fire, The king of all fire, and give you the most powerful law of fire possible outside of fire-based races such as the Phoenix.}
This option called to me in the same way as fire does to a kid. Your parents have to teach you that fire is not to be played with, while most animals try to avoid it instinctively.
There is just something in the mortal psyche that calls us to anything destructive or harmful, and I was heeding that call now.
Choosing this option, I felt a strange energy erupt from my tail and spread to the rest of my body.
At first, I thought that this level of energy was nothing special, but after a few seconds, the energy pouring into my body did not stop and instead, it continued to increase.
Soon, I was feeling a similar pain as when I started to inscribe my bones. The difference between them was that this one felt like something was burning me from the inside out, whereas the inscribing felt like someone was trying slowly to cut me to pieces from the inside out.
Unlike with my bone tempering, the fire did not stay in my body and erupted outwards, stopping only a little less than a foot away from me. After stopping, the flames started to wrap around me, forming a cocoon of fire.
Inside the cocoon, I was able to get a glimpse of my tail, where I saw a series of markings and color changes that resembled fire appearing over it.
During this time, my nightgown was torched to ashes and would have revealed my body to the world if it were not for the flames that blocked everyone's sight.
This changed as I felt myself covered with a set of undergarments, followed by a white blouse, blue jeans, and a good set of work boots. My hair was even tied back into a ponytail.
When all these changes ended, the flames surrounding me were pulled back into my body, and I was left standing there on the outskirts of the shrine with a circle of scorched gravel around me.
My stomach chose this time to remind me that it was still morning and that I had not had anything to eat yet.
Turning around to enter the house, I see both Silica and Raina standing there, with Mrs. Xia and Lou Xia walking up not far behind.
It was only now that I realized precisely what I had done and had the decency to be embarrassed.
(Raina POV: Half an hour earlier)
I was lying on the bed in a state similar to meditation. This is something almost anyone who reaches the immortal realm could learn, as we do not need sleep anymore and only need to rest our minds occasionally.
Even while in this state, I was still aware of my surroundings, including the little fox on the bed next to me. She was sleeping peacefully up until about a few seconds ago when her entire body went stiff.
I was about to do something when I felt a stream of divine energy leave her body, and she relaxed again.
This calmed me down for a second until she sprang up from the bed, startling me out of my meditation. Opening my eyes and looking at her, I saw that she ran for the door, wearing nothing but her almost transparent nightgown.
I grabbed one of the spare robes from my storage bracelet and ran after the little menace.
Following her path, I saw multiple maids and servants looking in the direction she ran in, giving me a clear path to follow.
When I caught up to her, I saw her standing at the edge of the shrine, seemingly looking into space in front of her. She then raises her hand, making a motion as if pressing something.
This happens a few more times before she starts making swiping motions as if scrolling up on a screen. That is when it hit me that she must be doing something with her system at this point.
It was then that a woman wearing a maid outfit walked up next to me.
If I remember her name right, she should be Silica. She then asked, "Is everything alright with the miss? She is not affected by some strange demon cultivator's curse, right?"
Her question almost makes me laugh out loud at the realization of what this looks like to someone who does not know what a system is. I then answered, "No. She is just looking through something in her system. But I do not know why she needed to run all the way out to the shrine to look through this?"
We then both stood there for some time, waiting to see what would happen and trying not to laugh at Vale's expressions when she said some words that confused Silica. However, they did not confuse me as I realized what she had just said.
I was about to run up to her and stop her from continuing when she pressed on something, and soon, all the laws of fire in the area converged on her. This did not seem to be enough as the statue started faintly glowing, and fire laws started to pour out from the ground below us.
Soon, fire started to emerge from her body, forming a wall around her.
When this happened, I felt the blood in my body begin to boil, and all the laws that I had accrued over the years started to rage around in my body.
Checking the current state of my body, I found that a bloodline I did not know I had started to evolve, and my new tail was trying to draw in some of the world's laws.
My tail did not start drawing them in because the control I had over my own body prevented such things. However, this did not stop me from inferring what was going on and sending a large collection of my primary law to my tail, causing the color of its fur to change and some patterns to appear on it.
As this happened, I felt my connection with that law increasing.
When the process finished, my tail looked like the moon's surface, only my tail was covered in fur and not rock.
My hair also changed color from its normal dark black to a silver, which reflected the light.
Summoning a mirror made of water, I could also see that the fur of my ears also changed to the same silver as my hair with my old black at the tips.
This change only took a couple of minutes, and when it was done, Vale was still wrapped in a wall of fire.
I then realized an unnoticed side-effect of my change was a better sight and an increased hearing range.
This was because I could now hear the conversation between the little girl and her daughter as they were walking toward us.
(Lou Xia POV)
I was making my way to the dining room when I ran into my mom following a maid rushing toward the backyard.
When my mom saw me, she said, "Come with me, Lou. It seems your friend has done something crazy."
Confused, I followed along, asking, "What is Vale doing?"
"She ran through the house in her nightwear and is now standing out in the open in the backyard for everyone to see." My mom explained in the same blunt and slightly outraged tone that always preceded either me or my brother getting our behinds beat until we learned that we did something we should not have. Though honestly, we deserved it every time.
Making our way into the backyard, we could all see the wall of fire that was now standing at the edge of the shrine. The maid that was leading us then started to panic, saying that Vale was standing where the fire was currently.
My mother was about to do something when I held her back, pointing out that Raina and Silica were standing not that far away, and they had not done anything yet.
When my mom saw that, she calmed down and started walking toward them when the firewall began to recede.
Soon, the fire was gone, and standing in the middle of a now-charred circle of gravel was Vale.
She was wearing some clothes that I never thought I would see a woman wearing and also had some changes to her tail, but that was it.
