Chapter 55: Geng Hao’s Lightning Ability
Chen Yu immediately panicked. "Sister Su Ling, what should we do?"
Usually, it was Sheng Hongye who commanded everyone to resist the zombies, but now he was unconscious.
Li Xueying and Su Rou also fell silent, hiding to the side as if playing dead.
Professor Bai was old and couldn't handle the shock. Now, Su Ling was the only one who could come up with ideas.
If she said she wasn't panicking, it would be a lie.
After all, dealing with fortified buildings and facing zombies were two different things.
However, she had to keep a calm demeanor. If she panicked, everyone else would panic even more.
"First, let's check the number of zombies and where they are mainly attacking. And don't make any noise."
While speaking, Su Ling purposely glanced at Li Xueying.
Then, in a cold tone, she said, "If anyone dares to shout loudly and cause trouble for others, I'll push her out."
As Su Ling spoke, her face was filled with a killing intent, exuding the calm and sharpness that came from years of holding a scalpel.
Chen Yu immediately agreed in a low voice, "Got it. I'll go and check."
Su Ling nodded, then went out.
Li Xueying couldn't help but clench her fingers. She wanted to assert herself, but she didn't have the courage to face the zombies.
Su Ling had already arrived in the corridor and didn't hear the defense warning, indicating that there weren't many zombies.
Geng Hao followed Su Ling to the first floor and didn't dare to say a word due to her imposing presence.
Only when they reached the first-floor entrance did he whisper, "Sister Su Ling, is Brother Sheng alright?"
"Should be."
Su Ling wasn't entirely sure.
After all, the medicine supply was limited, and she had only given Sheng Hongye a sedative. She didn't know if there would be any other effects.
Geng Hao couldn't help but curse, "Those two women are despicable."
"Indeed, they're extremely despicable." Su Ling said, her face still grim.
During these days, the zombies occasionally made their presence known. Currently, with Er Lei injured, Sheng Hongye was the only one with formidable combat strength and organizational ability. Yet, the two bitches had caused this situation. Su Ling wondered if he would feel too embarrassed to face others once he woke up.
Thinking back to the sudden kiss, Su Ling's face inexplicably reddened.
Chen Yu had already reached the lower floor and was crouched at the door, listening intently.
"The footsteps suggest that there aren't many zombies."
Seeing Su Ling approach, Chen Yu whispered.
Su Ling nodded and asked, "Where's Han Qiang?"
"He went to check the damaged area."
As they were speaking, footsteps echoed from upstairs.
Han Qiang came down the stairs at a fast pace.
In a hushed tone, he said, "Sister Su Ling, the situation doesn't seem optimistic."
Han Qiang was actually around the same age as Su Ling, but he had picked up the habit of addressing Su Ling as such while following Geng Hao and Chen Yu.
"Last time the zombies attacked, there seemed to be a leading zombie, and it seems like they've returned, gathering downstairs at the damaged area."
During dinner, they had discussed the possibility of zombies gaining intelligence, so Su Ling had some understanding. She immediately asked, "Roughly how many?"
Han Qiang replied, "I didn't count, but there are at least thirty or fifty."
Su Ling frowned and told Chen Yu, "You stay here and guard the door. Han Qiang and Geng Hao, come with me to take a look."
After a brief explanation, the three of them headed towards the damaged area.
When they were repairing the place, Sheng Hongye left an air vent on this side, which conveniently allowed them to check the situation outside through this small window.
Su Ling leaned her head out and sure enough, she saw a raggedy-dressed zombie standing in the open space. The other zombies formed a circle around it, occasionally emitting low roars. However, for some reason, these zombies didn't move, as if it was waiting for a certain command.
"What are they waiting for?" Su Ling turned around in confusion.
Geng Hao and Han Qiang also had no idea what was going on.
The three of them crowded their heads at the door of the air vent.
In the midst of their shock, the middle zombie suddenly let out a low roar. The sound was long and varied, like conveying a certain signal.
Then, the surrounding zombies began to move. They rushed towards the base at an extremely fast speed and used their strong claws to dig into the bricks of the outer wall.
A series of grating sounds, like grinding teeth, rang out from below as several pieces of the cement-mixed bricks were dug out.
"Why are these zombies faster than last time?"
Geng Hao's voice was trembling.
Su Ling's heart was pounding as the warning signal for the decreased defense sounded in her mind.
Su Ling quickly reinforced the defense, but the failure rate was around sixty percent.
Watching the defense constantly decreasing, the zombies had already climbed up in a piled-up manner. Su Ling immediately ordered Han Qiang, "Go and bring Sheng Hongye here."
"What?!" Han Qiang was bewildered.
With Sheng Hongye in such a condition, what use was it to bring him over?
"Quickly, just do it. I have a plan."
Su Ling gave a quick order and then asked Geng Hao, "Can you use your electric ability? We have few people, and physical attacks can't keep up with the zombies' speed."
"It's not very effective, and the electric arc is tiny."
"It doesn't matter; give it a try."
During medical class, the teacher had mentioned that in a life-or-death situation, people might trigger powerful abilities. Now was a perfect opportunity for practice.
Zombies were always evolving. If humans remained stagnant, they would be wiped out by zombies sooner or later.
Geng Hao immediately extended his hand, and a small electric arc burst from between his fingers.
"No, it's too small. If you can't make a bigger electric arc, you'll die."
Geng Hao tried a few more times and couldn't help but break out in sweat.
"Sister Su Ling, I can't figure it out."
"Look at the zombies below. If you can't electrocute them, they will climb up quickly, and we'll all die."
By this time, the zombies had already reached about one floor high. They were digging the bricks while climbing upwards with a whining sound.
Geng Hao's scalp tingled. "I can't do it; I'll use the shovel."
Su Ling helplessly picked up the shovel and leaned on the edge of the air vent to defend.
On the other side, Han Qiang had already brought Sheng Hongye over and considerately spread a blanket on the ground.
Su Ling immediately extended her foot to where his hand was and began reinforcing the bricks that the zombies had dug out.
After the system was activated, the model once again flashed in her mind, and Su Ling could clearly see the areas that needed reinforcement.
To save time, she chose localized reinforcement.
Soon, the bricks that had been dug out were reassembled. Because it was dark outside, Geng Hao and Han Qiang didn't witness this jaw-dropping scene.
At the same time, the piled-up zombies finally reached the air vent.
A foul smell wafted in from outside the window, causing nausea among the group.
Geng Hao swung the shovel at the zombie, but unexpectedly, one of the zombies grabbed him tightly, frightening him into letting go of the shovel, which fell down.
Geng Hao reached out to grab the shovel but touched the zombie's cold claws. Startled, he involuntarily released a lightning bolt from his hand.
A bright arc of electricity flashed from Geng Hao's hand, reaching over two meters high, and actually illuminated the courtyard as if it were daytime.
The zombies below convulsed as if suffering spasms, shuddered twice, and then collapsed in a heap.
Han Qiang couldn't help but exclaim, "Impressive!"
Afterward, he also tried to set the zombie on fire, but the flames were too small to cause any damage, but it angered the zombie in the middle of the ground.
The zombie turned its stiff neck, looked at the air vent, and let out a long howl to the sky. In an instant, the zombies went crazy and rushed towards the base.
