Chapter 43: The Zombies Undergo Mutation Again
A tall figure walked against the sunlight, emerging from the ruins of broken tiles.
Camouflage trousers, high-top Martin boots and a black T-shirt showcased broad shoulders and long legs, with a sturdy and powerful aura emanating from the exposed arms, veins bulging, exuding a sense of masculine strength.
The man possessed a handsome appearance, with sharply defined facial features that carried a hint of sharpness akin to a blade. Squinting his narrow eyes, he gazed coldly at Liu Yu, his icy demeanor devoid of any emotion.
Liu Yu's expression slightly changed. "Mr. Sheng."
Geng Hao furrowed his brow as well. In his view, Mr. Sheng Hongye had already abandoned them, leaving with Li Xueying. Now that he appeared again, a touch of hostility surged in Geng Hao's eyes.
Su Ling was also somewhat surprised. She didn't expect Sheng Hongye to find them here.
Sheng Hongye's gaze swept over Su Ling and seeing that she was unharmed, his facial expression softened slightly before turning back to Liu Yu.
In a cold voice, he asked, "Why did you kill my people?"
Liu Yu chuckled. "Mr. Sheng, I'm afraid there's a misunderstanding. When did I ever kill your people?"
As he spoke, Xin Zan stepped forward with a shotgun in hand, his tone cold. "Step back, don't be unreasonable with the Prophet."
Sheng Hongye sneered, a faint smile on his lips. "Do you think you can stop me with just you?"
Under Sheng Hongye's powerful aura, Xin Zan involuntarily took a step back, then glanced at his arm wrapped in gauze.
Sheng Hongye's marksmanship was deadly accurate and his speed was astonishing. Thinking back to the previous night, Xin Zan couldn't help but break into a cold sweat.
Sheng Hongye took another step forward, displaying a relaxed and carefree posture.
"Stay where you are."
Xin Zan shouted again, his index finger on the trigger.
Geng Hao was startled and immediately grabbed Xin Zan's hand. "Let's talk it out; don't shoot."
His grip made Xin Zan nervous. With a slight pressure of his index finger, a bullet was fired.
Sheng Hongye dodged, swiftly appearing in front of Liu Yu.
Liu Yu threw a punch and Sheng Hongye countered with a flying kick, hitting Liu Yu's wrist.
Others also surrounded Sheng Hongye. Su Ling felt her heart tighten and her heart skipped a beat.
Geng Hao was completely bewildered. He had come here because Liu Yu told him it was to pick up Su Ling but he didn't expect them to start fighting as soon as they met. What surprised him even more was that Liu Yu, who looked extremely weak, also knew martial arts.
While he was still in a daze, Xin Zan pushed Geng Hao away and aimed the shotgun at Sheng Hongye.
Su Ling, with courage she didn't know she had, rushed forward and firmly grabbed Xin Zan's arm.
"Sister Su Ling."
Emotionally, Geng Hao leaned more towards Su Ling. After all, she had cured his leg. He immediately went to grab Xin Zan but at that moment, a small burst of electricity shot out from Geng Hao's hand.
Su Ling felt her body go numb and she instantly let go. Xin Zan was also electrocuted and the shotgun fell to the ground.
Geng Hao was startled by his own actions and looked at his hand.
Could it be that he was mistaken just now? Did he actually produce lightning?
Su Ling's pupils contracted sharply.
Geng Hao indeed had a supernatural ability.
Could it be that Liu Yu had already foreseen this and intentionally left Geng Hao behind?
While pondering, Sheng Hongye subdued the two boys who were with Xin Zan and he held Liu Yu by the neck.
Su Ling quickly picked up the shotgun and stood beside Sheng Hongye.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
"I'm fine," Sheng Hongye replied, his grip tightened a bit.
"Liu Yu, I'll ask you again, why did you kill several of my men?"
Liu Yu snorted but didn't answer.
"You have quite the backbone," Sheng Hongye said, gripping Liu Yu's shoulder blade tightly. Liu Yu broke into a sweat from the pressure.
Through gritted teeth, Liu Yu said, "It rained for over ten days and most of our supplies got soaked. To save resources, we had to reduce the population. Is there anything wrong with what I did?"
Geng Hao finally understood the situation and cursed, "You damned thing! We should have let that wall crush you. You lived in Mr. Sheng's base for so long and still dared to kill his people."
Being young and hot-headed, Geng Hao kicked Liu Yu.
Liu Yu grunted in pain and sneered, "If it weren't for your abilities, you would have died long ago."
Geng Hao kicked again. "You're a f*cking animal."
"That's enough," Sheng Hongye intervened and punched Liu Yu in the temple.
Liu Yu groaned and collapsed like a noodle. Xin Zan and the others witnessed Sheng Hongye's formidable strength and didn't dare to make a sound.
Su Ling frowned, about to check if Liu Yu was dead when suddenly four to five zombies ran towards them.
"Quickly dodge! There are zombies! Run away!" Su Ling yelled.
Sheng Hongye took the shotgun from Su Ling's hands and fired two shots, hitting two zombies in the head.
It was the first time Su Ling had seen such a brutal scene up close. The sight of blood and brain matter mixed together made her stomach churn.
Sheng Hongye fired two more shots, snapping the neck of the last zombie.
The loud noise quickly attracted more zombies. After the recent rain, their movements were five times faster than before and they were almost running.
As more and more zombies approached, Su Ling hurriedly pulled Sheng Hongye.
"We can't fight them all. The more we fight, the more there'll be. Come inside and hide."
After saying that, Su Ling knocked on the basement door, and Guan Yuxin quickly opened it. Su Ling promptly invited Sheng Hongye and Geng Hao inside.
Sheng Hongye hesitated for a moment but bent down and entered the basement. When he saw Professor Bai, he was taken aback.
"Uncle Bai, why are you here?"
"Xiao Ye!" Professor Bai was also excited. "You actually came back to Lizhou?" 1Xiao means "small" or "little" in Chinese. It's often used as a prefix to describe something as small in size or young in age. Additionally, it can be used to express familiarity or affection when referring to someone or something.
Sheng Hongye nodded. "I've been back for a while."
Professor Bai looked back. "What about Xiao Kai?"
Sheng Hongye's gaze darkened. "He's with my other friends at a supermarket."
As they spoke, the zombies started scratching at the door.
The piercing sound gave Su Ling goosebumps but she wasn't afraid with Sheng Hongye around. Reinforcing a door against zombies was not a problem.
However, the space was cramped, especially with Sheng Hongye and Geng Hao inside, making it even more confined.
After introducing themselves, they fell silent, only the zombies' roars and scratching at the door could be heard.
Su Ling sat beside Sheng Hongye and saw the worry on his face, feeling somewhat guilty.
He must be concerned about Gu Kai Xuan. If she hadn't left, he wouldn't have abandoned Kai Xuan and the injured Er Lei. Unable to bear it, she whispered, "The zombies were probably attracted by the gunshots. Don't worry about Kai Xuan. As long as they stay inside the supermarket, they'll be safe. When the zombies retreat, I'll go with you to find him."
