Chapter 37: He Just Wants to Touch His Heart…
Following the route map provided by Xiao En, the perfect location to watch the meteor shower was on a flat highland.
The length of day and night on the asteroid was almost the same as the Imperial Mother Star. When the aircraft arrived, it was just entering night time here.
Qi Yao and Yi Er got off the aircraft one after the other, standing on the broad highland, gazing at the sky. Where their eyes could reach, stars of various sizes were buried within the nebula, and in the distance, stars twinkled. Occasionally, sparse meteors streaked across the sky. Yi Er pointed to the largest and brightest one, saying, “That’s the Imperial Mother Star.”
“Oh, it’s so far away,” Qi Yao sighed lightly.
Yi Er replied casually, “It’s two light-years away.”
“Two light-years!!”
No wonder Yi Er said it was far; it was indeed a distance of two light-years.
As the asteroid had just entered night, the temperature was comfortable, and a cool night breeze brushed past. Qi Yao sat on a large rock, enjoying the breeze. Lazily, he asked Yi Er, “How long until it starts?”
Meteors occasionally fell from the sky, like a prelude to the climax. However, the climax itself seemed to be delayed.
Yi Er answered, “Four or five hours.”
“…”
It was going to take that long? Qi Yao lay down weakly on the rock.
Raising an eyebrow, Yi Er also seemed to feel that waiting for four or five hours was too long. He suggested with an exploratory attitude, “Shall we go somewhere else?”
Qi Yao immediately got up. “Sure.”
Xiao En had prepared temperature-controlled suits for them. Yi Er took one out and hung it on his arm for Qi Yao, in case the cold night wind came suddenly, as males might catch a cold.
Qi Yao noticed. “Why only one?”
Closing the aircraft door, Yi Er said, “I’m not afraid of the cold.”
“But you are now…” He looked at Yi Er’s flat abdomen.
“What’s wrong with me now?”
“I mean…” Qi Yao hesitated, unsure how to continue.
Yi Er didn’t tell him, maybe there was a reason for not telling him, perhaps he wanted to surprise him. It was better not to say it out loud at this moment.
After silently pondering, Qi Yao completed his previous sentence, “I mean, you should button up the top button of your shirt; it’s about to come loose.”
Yi Er was puzzled. Following his words, he touched the button on his collar, which was securely fastened without any signs of loosening.
What did the male want to say just now?
Before he could ask again, Qi Yao had already left with his back turned.
This asteroid left by Darren was in its undeveloped state, preserving the most primitive terrain. Many places were desolate, while others had unknown vegetation growing wildly.
The bleak white light reflected by the planet’s surface acted as illumination. Qi Yao and Yi Er avoided the areas with vegetation and chose the flat roads to move forward boldly.
The farther they went, the wider the road became.
The reflected light wasn’t very bright, only illuminating the nearby environment clearly.
There were obvious signs of repair on both sides of the vegetation, as if to clear a path leading to the open space where they could watch the meteor shower.
Qi Yao was puzzled. “Are you sure you haven’t been here before? Why do I feel like you’re lying to me?”
Yi Er affirmed, “I’m sure I haven’t been here before.”
The work in the Second Military District was busy, and the asteroid was far away. As a lone female, he had no intention of coming alone.
“But why do I feel like someone has been here… Did we come to the wrong asteroid?”
Yi Er glanced sideways, his voice devoid of any emotion. “Do you distrust me that much?”
Qi Yao didn’t ask anymore.
But as the road became clearer, his doubts grew. He subconsciously reached out and held Yi Er’s hand.
Yi Er held his hand back.
The moment their palms touched, he felt a slight sweat, cool and faint. It was a reaction that only occurred under nervous and anxious emotions.
What was Yi Er nervous about?
Qi Yao subconsciously tightened his hand that held the slightly sweaty palm, but he didn’t get any feedback from Yi Er.
After walking a few more steps, Yi Er stopped slowly.
Qi Yao also stopped.
The female beside him lowered his head, and the reflected light outlined his profile clearly. From Qi Yao’s perspective, he could see the female’s side face was tense, as if fearing something unknown ahead.
“What’s wrong?” he asked with concern.
Yi Er remained silent for a long time, then, as if determined, he whispered, “Let’s go back.”
“Yeah, let’s go back. The meteor shower will start soon.”
“Just started, I don’t want to miss it.”
With that, he took Yi Er’s hand and turned around, but Yi Er didn’t move.
It seemed like the female’s feet were rooted to the ground, unable to take a step forward.
Ahead was the unknown, while behind was the upcoming grand meteor shower.
He should choose the meteor shower, but… he also wanted to confirm the unknown ahead.
“Yi Er?” Qi Yao called out to him.
Just then, a faint scent of roses wafted in on the night breeze.
The asteroid was desolate, with only unknown vegetation growing wildly. This faint scent of flowers stood out among the indistinguishable vegetation odors.
The wind left no trace, and the scent of flowers vanished quickly. Qi Yao murmured, “This is…”
Yi Er’s gaze wandered, and the tense expression finally cracked when the scent of flowers dissipated. Reluctantly, he admitted the possibility he had been resisting all along, “Lord, I was wrong. There might indeed have been zergs here.”
“Could it be your female father…” Qi Yao directly voiced the possibility Yi Er didn’t want to admit.
If it was Darren… Qi Yao felt inexplicably delighted.
But judging from Yi Er’s reaction, the delight might only be his own. Before Yi Er could speak, he quickly restrained his expression and changed his words, “I mean, maybe it was planted a long time ago.”
Saying this, he turned to face Yi Er, making Yi Er look at him, and then tried his best to relax and hastily blurted out his speculations: “Maybe it was a long time ago, and your female father came here and planted a rose… No, the scent just now couldn’t be emitted by just one rose, it should be a group.”
Qi Yao speculated on his own, his dark eyes bright as he looked at the female in front of him, his voice cheerful, “Yi Er, your father left you a sea of roses.”
Yi Er’s eyes suddenly turned cold. “Father… How do you know he liked roses?”
“I…” Qi Yao’s body trembled suddenly, his face stiff, unable to speak.
Yi Er had never mentioned to him about Darren liking roses. How did he know? It could only be from elsewhere.
The answer was self-evident, but it seemed to offend Yi Er. He could clearly feel that Yi Er didn’t like it.
Qi Yao was a little panicked. If there really was a sea of roses left by Darren ahead, Yi Er should be happy, but why was he so nervous when mentioning it, mentioning his female father, mentioning roses? Yi Er seemed so tense, even to the point of being unfamiliar.
Was it because he didn’t like roses? Or was it because he had inquired about Darren’s past?
He hurriedly explained, “Yi Er, I’m sorry, I… I just noticed that you haven’t been in a good mood lately, so I asked, I didn’t mean anything else.”
The male looked very awkward, like when they shared a small cake on their wedding day, being careful not to make mistakes.
But mistakes were still made.
Yi Er’s heart clenched fiercely. He realized belatedly that he had indeed been too sensitive just now.
He shouldn’t have transferred these negative emotions onto Qi Yao. Qi Yao didn’t know anything; he just wanted to touch his heart.
The tense expression was touched, and Yi Er forced himself to relax, lowering his voice to gently embrace Qi Yao, “I know.”
Qi Yao felt wronged, “You don’t know.”
“Don’t know what?”
“You don’t know that I really want to know why you didn’t tell me about your female father, and why you don’t like the roses your female father liked.”
Yi Er fell silent.
After a long time, he replied, “Because I don’t know the answer myself.”
“What answer?”
Yi Er fell silent again.
Qi Yao hugged him back. “Your female father is a hero of the Empire.”
This time, Yi Er sighed. “But what if he isn’t?”
“He is.”
Yi Er closed his eyes.
The night breeze brought another whiff of rose scent.
When Yi Er’s palms stopped sweating, Qi Yao let go of him and asked cheerfully, pretending to be light-hearted, “Should we go see the roses or watch the meteor shower?”
As he spoke, he blinked, “The meteor shower is about to start.”
The male’s acting skills were never good, and Yi Er could tell he was trying hard to take care of his emotions.
Feeling helpless, he said, “Let’s go watch the meteor shower. We shouldn’t disappoint Xiao En.”
“Okay.”
Having made their decision, the two turned around and headed back.
As they walked, Qi Yao said, “It is said that wishes made when meteors fall are particularly likely to come true. Yi Er, quickly make a wish, and then make it when the time comes.”
The male was once again livening up the atmosphere. Yi Er pretended to be curious, “Oh? Where did you hear that? I’ve never heard of it.”
“On a distant planet.”
“What planet? Are there planets in this endless galaxy that I don’t know about?”
“Listen to this, what arrogance! Yi Er, do you know there’s a saying ‘There’s always someone better’?”
“Teacher Yi Er is ignorant and arrogant, unaware that there’s always someone better. I humbly ask the Lord for guidance.”
“Hahaha, you even got him involved…”
The atmosphere returned to harmony, with the two of them chatting as they walked. Suddenly, they heard unfamiliar voices behind them.
Qi Yao shut up alertly and reflexively grabbed Yi Er’s arm.
The unfamiliar voice sounded gentle, like warm sunshine, seemingly complaining but without any hint of displeasure, “You’ve seen the meteor shower so many times, yet you still insist on coming here every time.”
Another witty voice chimed in, “But every time you seem to enjoy it.”
“If I’m not happy, you’re going to take it out on my flowers.”
“I wouldn’t… Wait, don’t go.”
“What’s wrong?”
The witty voice suddenly became cautious, “I seem to sense the presence of unfamiliar zergs…”
Hostile psychic energy burst out unexpectedly. Qi Yao reflexively stood in front of Yi Er and released a defensive psychic attack.
Two completely different psychic energies collided violently, stirring up the dust underfoot and causing the vegetation on both sides to sway incessantly.
Qi Yao suddenly bent over, the resonance caused by the collision of psychic energies made his head break out in a cold sweat. He covered his chest in intense pain, realizing suddenly that the incoming zerg was more powerful than him, at least one level higher.
Yi Er supported his body. In the breaths between, Yi Er’s psychic energy covered him, replacing him in the battle against the unfamiliar psychic energy.
“Two types of psychic energy… Two zergs, who are they?”
As the voice of the incoming zerg rose, a silver-haired female zerg and a brown-haired male zerg appeared before them.
Qi Yao’s eyes widened suddenly.
The outer layer of his temperature-regulating suit fell to the ground unexpectedly. In that moment, he clearly heard Yi Er stiffly utter a trembling sound, “Father…”
