reborn as Sakumo Hatake

Chapter 14: ### **Chapter 14: The Seeds of Rebellion**

The shadows of war had grown longer since Sakumo's return from the neutral territory. The masked figures, who had revealed themselves to be more than just mercenaries, lingered in the back of his mind like a festering wound. They weren't just random operatives—they were a well-organized faction, and their recruitment methods were chilling.

Sakumo's latest mission had only deepened the mystery, but it also revealed something far more dangerous. The masked leaders weren't just looking to profit from the chaos of the ongoing war; they were manipulating events behind the scenes, pulling strings to orchestrate a larger plan.

Now, more than ever, Konoha's future was at risk. Sakumo knew he needed to share his findings with Hiruzen, but as he entered the Hokage's office, the usual calm atmosphere had shifted. There was a tension in the air, as if the village itself was bracing for something catastrophic.

---

Hiruzen sat at his desk, his brow furrowed in deep thought. Danzo stood by the window, his arms crossed, watching the village below. Sakumo noticed the unspoken tension between them, but he had learned long ago not to ask too many questions.

"Sit, Sakumo," Hiruzen said, his voice steady. "We have much to discuss."

Sakumo obeyed, taking the seat across from the Hokage. Danzo's gaze flicked to him, but he said nothing.

"We've received troubling reports," Hiruzen began. "Our spies in Iwa and Kumo have uncovered evidence that the masked figures you encountered are in direct contact with high-ranking officials in both villages. This could be the spark that turns the war into something far more devastating."

Sakumo's eyes narrowed. "They're not just mercenaries then. They're pulling the strings of the entire war."

"That's what we believe," Hiruzen replied. "Their motivations remain unclear, but their influence is growing. We need to stop them before they can escalate things further."

Danzo spoke up, his voice low and commanding. "The best way to handle this is to take action swiftly and decisively. We should eliminate the source of this threat—before it spreads to other villages."

Sakumo shook his head. "We don't know enough. If we strike blindly, we risk making things worse. I propose we learn more about their plans first. We need more intelligence."

Hiruzen nodded. "I agree with Sakumo. We must tread carefully."

Danzo's lips curled into a small, disapproving frown. "A cautious approach is fine, but it wastes time. Time we don't have."

"We'll proceed with caution," Hiruzen insisted. "Sakumo, I want you to infiltrate their inner circle. Find out what they're planning, and report back to me. This is a delicate operation, but I trust you."

Sakumo stood, nodding. "I'll gather the information we need."

Hiruzen's expression softened. "Be careful, Sakumo. This mission won't be easy."

Sakumo gave a small smile. "I'll be fine. I always am."

---

That night, as the village settled into its quiet routine, Sakumo prepared for his mission. His mind was heavy with the weight of the task ahead. The masked figures had already proven their ruthlessness, and he couldn't afford to underestimate them. His first priority was to infiltrate their ranks once more, but this time, he would be careful—more careful than ever before.

He packed light, only the essentials: kunai, shuriken, and his trusty tanto. He couldn't afford to leave any trace of his true identity. He was no longer just a war hero; he was a shadow in their midst, and he needed to blend in.

---

As the moon rose high in the sky, Sakumo made his way to the outskirts of the village, to the warehouse where the masked figures had gathered. He had learned their pattern over the past few days, observing from a distance. Tonight, the figures would hold another meeting—an opportunity he couldn't miss.

When he arrived at the warehouse, the same guards were in place, but this time, Sakumo was ready. He slipped past them, using the shadows to his advantage, and made his way inside.

The warehouse was even darker than before, and the air smelled faintly of damp wood and rust. As Sakumo moved deeper into the building, he noticed a faint hum in the air, a pulse of energy that made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. There was something else at play here—something more than simple mercenaries and rogue shinobi.

He pressed forward, sticking to the edges of the room, avoiding the groups of masked figures who were deep in conversation. He overheard bits of their discussions: plans for assassination, sabotage, and war—a network of chaos that stretched far beyond the borders of the Land of Fire.

Then, a voice rang out from the center of the room, its tone commanding. "We are on the precipice of something far greater than just this war. Our actions will reshape the fate of the shinobi world. Soon, every village will bow to us."

Sakumo's blood ran cold. This was bigger than he had imagined. Whoever these masked figures were, they weren't just interested in war. They wanted power—complete, absolute control over the entire world.

A figure stepped forward, their mask obscuring their features, but the intensity of their presence was unmistakable. Sakumo didn't need to see their face to know that this was the leader.

"The time for secrecy is over," the leader declared. "Soon, the shinobi world will be plunged into chaos. And from the ashes, we will rise, as the true masters of this world."

Sakumo's heart pounded. This was it. This was the storm that would tear everything apart.

The leader continued, unaware that Sakumo was listening. "We will strike Konoha first. Their Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, is a fool if he thinks he can stop us. Once the White Fang has fallen, the rest of the village will crumble."

Sakumo's breath caught in his throat. His name had been spoken aloud. But it wasn't just his name—it was a death sentence. He was their target.

---

Sakumo's mind raced as he backed out of the room, careful not to make a sound. He couldn't stay in the warehouse any longer. He needed to report back to Konoha, and he needed to do it quickly.

As he made his way through the darkened streets of the village, his thoughts swirled. This was no longer just about the war. This was a conspiracy—a plan to topple the shinobi system itself. The masked figures had to be stopped, and he was the only one who could do it.

When he arrived at the Hokage's office, Hiruzen was already waiting for him.

"Sakumo, what did you learn?" Hiruzen asked, his voice low and urgent.

Sakumo's face was grim. "They're planning to strike Konoha. Soon. And I'm their first target."

Hiruzen's expression darkened. "We will not let that happen. But we need to prepare for what's coming."

Sakumo nodded. "I'll do whatever it takes to protect this village."

Hiruzen placed a hand on his shoulder, his voice firm. "Then we fight together, Sakumo. We will stand against the darkness, no matter what."
