Chapter 9: Nothing...

"Sir... I've searched the entire northern quadrant, and I haven't found anything out of the ordinary..."

The soldier's voice carried a mix of exhaustion and apprehension as he reported back to the Saiyan commander. His armor was scuffed from trudging through the rocky terrain, but his expression betrayed the frustration of coming back empty-handed.

The commander frowned, his arms crossed as he stood near the edge of a deep slash in the earth—a scar left by the earlier clash. His scouter continued its futile scan, emitting quiet beeps that only underscored the silence of the desolate battlefield.

"Nothing?" the commander repeated, his tone sharp, his tail swirling irritably.

"Nothing, sir," the soldier confirmed, his voice low.

The commander's eyes narrowed as he looked out toward the distant horizon, the remnants of the devastation still visible in the landscape. He had expected something—a residual ki signature, tracks, anything that might give them a clue to what had happened. Yet there was nothing.

"Check again," he ordered firmly. "Every stone, every crater. If something did this, it left a trace. We're not leaving until we find it."

The soldier hesitated for a moment, then saluted and rushed off to rejoin the search.

The commander's frustration was mounting. He wasn't one to believe in the impossible, and yet, the evidence before him didn't add up. A power spike that massive couldn't just vanish without a trace—it defied logic.

'We've all been searching for a day, yet nothing still? Such a being must still be here... They couldn't have just vanished.' He thought.

He activated his communicator, his tone brisk. "Report in. What's the status of the eastern and western quadrants?"

Static crackled briefly before a voice came through. "Eastern quadrant here. Nothing to report, sir. No signs of movement or ki signatures."

Another voice followed shortly after. "Same in the west, sir. It's completely dead out here. Whatever caused that energy spike is long gone—or it's hiding too well for us to detect."

The commander clenched his fists, his mind racing. This wasn't adding up. It wasn't just a matter of power; it was precision. Whoever—or whatever—had caused this had control far beyond what most beings could manage. To strike with such force and then vanish? It was deliberate.

"Keep looking," he growled into the communicator. "Double your efforts if you have to, but I want answers. I don't care how long it takes—find something."

He deactivated the communicator and turned his gaze back to the scars in the earth, the unease in his chest growing stronger.

Something had been here, and it was powerful—possibly stronger than anything they'd encountered before. But where was it now?

In the distance, the faint hum of a suppressed energy signature flickered for the briefest moment before disappearing entirely. Too faint for the scouter to detect...

I never thought I'd see the day I'd be huddled up in a cave like some damned fool. Me. Hiding. Of all things. When I first got here, I figured this was just some random backwater planet crawling with powerful beasts and maybe a local alien species—nothing I couldn't handle with a bit of caution and strategy.

But I was dead wrong.

Hell, I was lucky to have been near this cave entrance when it all went down. If I hadn't been, I might not be here right now. This wasn't some nameless, uncharted world like I thought—it was a Saiyan home world. A Saiyan home world. Do you know how ridiculously dangerous that is for someone in my current state?

I'd screwed up royally, too. Ran risks like a reckless idiot. Spiked my power level during that last fight without even thinking about who or what might have noticed. I'm damn fortunate that my senses, paired with my ki sense, picked up on them before they found me.

But now I was practically stuck, and the gravity of my current situation was sinking, and sinking in fast.

"What the hell am I supposed to do now?" I muttered, the words echoing faintly in the quiet of the cave.

It wasn't just their numbers that terrified me—it was their strength. When I'd sensed them earlier, some of their power levels had shot straight past the hundred-thousand mark. And one? One of them was in the millions.

Millions.

I had no idea what that even meant in practical terms either. Was that considered weak by their standards? Or was that top-tier Saiyan strength? I didn't know—and that made it all the more terrifying.

Still, there was one silver lining. Saiyan bodies. Some of the most powerful physiologies in the series. If I could get my hands on even one—

...

The thought hit me like a punch to the gut.

Would I—or could I—kill a Saiyan? An actual person?

Killing beasts, mindless creatures, that was one thing. I'd done it plenty of times without a second thought. But killing another humanoid, someone who might have a family, friends... Was that a step I was ready to take?

Sigh~

My gaze shifted to the lifeless body lying just a few feet away. It was the creature I'd fused with earlier. Disgusting. The sight of it twisted my stomach, like a grotesque reminder of what I was becoming—or what I might have to become.

"Ah, screw it," I growled under my breath.

I stretched out my arm, charging a small ki beam in my palm. Nothing excessive, just enough to obliterate the body without leaving anything too suspicious behind. If the Saiyans found this thing, they might even start asking questions, and I couldn't afford that—not yet.

Ptoooom!

The beam shot forward, striking the corpse and reducing it to ash in a fiery explosion. The heat flared for a moment before fading, and I watched as the remnants of the body burned away. It wasn't flashy enough to trip their scouters, at least as far as I could tell.

I slumped back into my corner, the dim light of the cave doing little to comfort me. My thoughts spiraled as I tried to figure out my next move. Did I really want to leave a mark on this universe? Or was I just obsessed with becoming strong for the sake of it?

Urgh~ I should've thought about all this earlier, back when I still had the chance to make a clear decision.

Now?

Now I was stuck in this dark cave, hiding from a world full of people who could potentially crush me like an insect, wondering if I even had what it took to survive in this universe.

And wondering what I'd probably have to become to even pull it off...

"Still... I just needed to get even stronger, if I do that they won't pose a thre—"

Flash!

A sudden burst of light caught my attention, cutting me off mid-sentence.

"What the hell?" I turned around, squinting at the source of the glow. It was weird—bright, even though it was close to nighttime. There shouldn't have been anything like that out here.

Curiosity got the better of me as I cautiously stepped toward the light, deeper into the cave. It didn't seem like it was coming from the entrance. Instead, it was coming from further inside, past a narrow opening I hadn't even noticed before...

"Alright, what now?" I mumbled, squeezing through the tight gap, my senses now on high alert.

As I moved forward, the light got brighter, illuminating the path ahead. The air was much thicker in here, damp but not inherently unpleasant, and the faint sound of dripping water echoed in the narrow tunnel, meaning it went further than this... After a few more steps, the passage opened up into a wide cavern.

And that's when I saw it...

The walls were lined with glowing crystals, their light refracting off each other in a what I would have to admit, was an awesome display. Shades of blue, green, and purple danced across the cavern, beautifully casting faint patterns on the cave floor. The crystals weren't just glowing either—they were even humming, like... They're alive. No...

They were alive. Their ki is just extremely feint.

"Huh!??"

Ok... Just what kind of universe did the being throw me into? First I have Saiyans having power level readings in the hundreds of thousand to millions, and now I find a cave filled with rocks that are somehow alive? Is this a joke of sorts?

No, I just need to role with this... Applying any sort of logic in my current situation would be out-right foolish.

For now, I want to see their actual status'. So I focused in on a few...

Name: Chryserians

Race: Bio-Crystal Hybrid

Height: 184.1 cm

Power Level: 121.2

Potential: 1.3

Latent Potential: 2.3

As I thought, their power levels were low, and their potentials aren't really anything to sell home about, but what about their actual abilities? If they even had any in the first place.

I looked a bit below, and read what they had...

__________________

Abilities;

DIVINE Ki-Sensitivity (Ultimate Passive): The user's ability to sense ki is heightened to extraordinary levels, increasing their sensitivity to ki by 100-fold.

Ki-Siphon (Unique Active/Passive): The user can absorb ki from external sources, either by making physical contact or anchoring themselves to an object with Ki. The siphoned energy enhances their power temporarily or can be stored for later use. (The object or entity must actively contain or emit ki for the ability to work. The siphoning process is slower on highly dense or complex ki structures, such as advanced techniques or ki-imbued technology. If the user siphons Ki beyond their current capacity, their body temporarily adapts to handle the excess energy, boosting power but risking overstrain/overload.

Bio-Crystal Physiology (Ultimate Passive): The user's Bio-crystalline physiology grants them increased immunity to normal ki based attacks by 15%. Also grants regeneration via user's KI consumption. (Cost scales with strength and damage taken)

Ki-Dampening (Active/Passive): If the user wills it, they can dampen other creatures' abilities to sense their own Ki...

"Ho-Wh-Huh!?" I was utterly flabbergasted.

I could tell just by reading through these abilities that these things were never meant to be found. There had to be hundreds of them down here too...

Why would something like this even exist? Hell, why would it need such immense ki sensitivity in the first place?

Having triple the sensitivity to ki was already an insane advantage over most species—enough to tip the scales in battle and training. But these things? These things had over thirty times the ki sensitivity I did. That wasn't just overkill—it was outright terrifying.

I looked around the cavern, my eyes flicking between near countless crystal formations. It wasn't just the sensitivity, either. Their physiology made them partially immune to ki-based attacks, something most fighters would kill for. And regeneration? Of course, they had that, too. Their bodies could repair themselves as long as they had energy to spare.

The kicker, though—the thing that really got to me—was the ability to siphon ki. With just a touch, they could drain energy from their surroundings or even directly from an opponent. Sure, the downside was that absorbing too much ki could overload their bodies, but still...

These things probably fed off the talent, not having a mind of their own...

Regardless, the things I could gain here was damn near staggering. And what's even better, was the fact that I had time to absorb all of them.
