Reborn as an AI: Helping My Past Self Become a Writer

Chapter 18: 18 The Intertwined Souls of Fate

The clash of weapons echoed through the air, metallic ringing blending with the roar of explosions. Shen Yuchen watched in stunned silence as the figure that looked exactly like him fought fiercely against Zero Entity. Confusion, shock, and a strange sense of familiarity tangled in his mind.

"Get up! Don't stop!" the figure commanded, crossing his twin blades to block another devastating strike from Zero Entity's colossal weapon.

Shen Yuchen struggled to his feet, breathing heavily. Su Wan-ning rushed to his side, supporting him with concern in her eyes.

"Are you hurt? Can you still move?" she asked anxiously.

"I'm fine…" Shen Yuchen forced himself to stay focused, his gaze fixed on the intense battle before them. "Who is he? Why does he look exactly like me?"

Su Wan-ning bit her lip, shaking her head. "I don't know... but now's not the time for questions. We need to get out of here!"

Just as they turned to run, Zero Entity seemed to sense their movement. Its massive blade cleaved the air, sending a deadly arc of violet energy hurtling toward them.

"Look out!"

Without thinking, Shen Yuchen threw himself at Su Wan-ning, knocking her to the ground as the energy wave blazed overhead, narrowly missing them. Sparks and debris rained down around them.

Shen Yuchen's heart pounded wildly as he gasped for breath. "Are you okay?"

Su Wan-ning stared at him, still in shock, then slowly nodded. "I... I'm fine. You saved me…"

Before he could respond, he felt a chilling presence behind him. Whipping around, he saw Zero Entity advancing, its weapon raised for a killing blow.

Suddenly, a blazing arc of light sliced through the air, forcing Zero Entity back. Shen Yuchen looked up in disbelief—it was the identical figure wielding the twin blades.

"Stay focused!" the figure barked, blocking another strike with practiced precision.

Su Wan-ning's eyes widened in awe. There was something about this mysterious fighter—his unyielding stance, his fierce determination—that struck her deeply.

"Go, now!" the fighter urged again, his tone cold but laced with an almost imperceptible hint of urgency.

Shen Yuchen clenched his fists, dragging Su Wan-ning away from the battlefield. They ran as fast as their battered bodies could manage, finally finding refuge behind the remnants of a collapsed wall.

A Moment of Respite Amid Chaos

Breathing heavily, they leaned against the cold stone wall. Shen Yuchen's arm throbbed with pain, but he forced himself to ignore it. He turned to Su Wan-ning.

"You're sure you're not hurt?"

She shook her head, though her eyes lingered on his blood-streaked arm. "I'm fine… but your arm—it's bleeding."

"It's nothing." He tried to sound casual, though the gash burned fiercely.

Before he could react, Su Wan-ning tore a strip from her sleeve and moved closer. "Let me see. Stop pretending you're fine."

Shen Yuchen hesitated but relented, extending his injured arm. Her touch was gentle yet firm as she carefully wrapped the makeshift bandage around the wound.

"Thank you…" he murmured, feeling strangely comforted by her presence.

Su Wan-ning kept her eyes on her work. "Don't thank me… If it weren't for you, I'd be…" Her voice wavered for a moment, but she quickly steadied herself. "We're in this together. We have to protect each other."

Shen Yuchen felt something stir within him—a warmth he hadn't known in what felt like forever. Despite the chaos, despite the danger, her unwavering presence anchored him in a way he couldn't explain.

Before he could voice his thoughts, a distant mechanical rumble echoed across the battlefield, followed by faint vibrations beneath their feet.

"Damn it… it's not over," Shen Yuchen muttered, pushing himself upright, scanning the area.

Suddenly, a figure staggered toward them—battered, bloodied, and gripping broken twin blades.

It was the mysterious fighter—AIC-01.

"Run… it's… still coming!" AIC-01 shouted, voice rough but resolute.

From behind the ruins, something colossal emerged—a being far more monstrous and menacing than Zero Entity, its towering frame radiating an aura of unstoppable power.

A cold system alert echoed in the air:

"Hidden threat detected... Identity: Unknown."

Shen Yuchen and Su Wan-ning tensed, gripping each other's hands as they prepared for another deadly confrontation.

Despite his wounds, AIC-01 slowly straightened, determination burning fiercely in his eyes.

"You won't take them from me," he growled, raising his shattered blades once more.

The game of fate has only just begun...
