Rebirth of Corrupt Officials

Chapter 36 - II

This day was destined not to be a peaceful one. Even if it was calm on the surface, it was still turbulent secretly.

There was almost nothing to do throughout the afternoon. He was scheduled to take over the financial and economic work the day after tomorrow, and he also had to sort out some information for these departments.

In Jiang Xiaochuan’s view, this detail was extremely problematic, but he could not say anything or even make any move to express doubt.

If it was a normal work handover without any problems, the sooner, the better in such an urgent time, but here they insisted on using busy affairs as an excuse to delay it for several days. Who knew what this is intended to do?

Jiang Xiaochuan left the office in anger today. Fu Peng used this trick very well. He didn’t know who would play tricks on whom in the future.

.

As soon as he left the government gate, he received a call from Rong Shaobai.

“Mayor Jiang said we would talk about it later last time. Now I have something I want to talk to Mayor Jiang. I wonder if Mayor Jiang can spare the time.” Rong Shaobai got straight to the point and spoke in a calm tone.

The last time he was talking about was the time when Zhang Xiaoli had a miscarriage. Rong Shaobai was also in the hospital at that time and called him. However, because Lian Cheng and the others from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection were there, he couldn’t show up, so he just made a phone call.

Later, things were so busy that Jiang Xiaochuan almost forgot about this. When he heard Rong Shaobai say this, he immediately smiled bitterly, “President Rong, you remember it very clearly.”

“If it weren’t for this Rong who really couldn’t find a more suitable person, I wouldn’t have bothered you with this call.” Rong Shaobai over there seemed to be in the car, and the faint sound of the engine could be heard from the phone. “If my calculations are correct, Mayor Jiang, you are very close to the government office now. Can you please follow the avenue to the west under the locust tree?”

This had brought him into contact with the underground party, but there was nothing he could do about it.

What would it look like for Jiang Xiaochuan, a high-ranking government official, to hang out with a gang leader like Rong Shaobai?

As the saying said, people’s words were scary. No one knew what others would make up, and public opinion was too lethal.

After Jiang Xiaochuan hung up the phone, he followed the words and walked under the locust tree. After a while, he saw a car coming and stopping in front of him. The back seat was opened. Jiang Xiaochuan saw Rong Shaobai sitting in the back seat and said hello to him.

“Have you already made up your mind that I will agree to see you?”

Rong Shaobai was sitting in the back. The driver in front was wearing sunglasses. Jiang Xiaochuan didn’t recognize him and didn’t look at him more. Rong Shaobai should know the importance of this meeting, and since he had brought someone here, he must be trustworthy.

Hearing Jiang Xiaochuan’s question, Rong Shaobai nodded, “It’s indeed a good idea. I heard that you took over the work of Qian Qiming and Zhou Qian?”

“Yes, President Rong is really well-informed.” In fact, according to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection’s service system, all information should be kept confidential until Qian Qiming was convicted. But now that so much had been leaked, there must be something wrong with the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

“I know a few people from the military, and they happen to know this news.” The armed forces of the military region performed various tasks to maintain national security. As China’s peaceful armed forces extended their reach globally, they undertaken tasks abroad, including more patrols around borders. However, Rong Shaobai’s connection with the military sounded somewhat alarming.

Jiang Xiaochuan recalled the news Xue Yan reported to him. There appeared to be arms deal between the Rong family and the military. It was said the military wouldn’t directly provide equipment to civilian entities, making arms smuggling the only plausible explanation.

Yet, how could Rong Shaobai casually share such confidential information with Jiang Xiaochuan?

Jiang Xiaochuan’s philosophy was to refrain from asking if he didn’t know because the secrets, he might hear could pose harm, and one must know how to keep things confidential.

Unfortunately, Rong Shaobai voluntarily disclosed this secret without any caution.

“President Rong, what is the purpose of sharing this?” Jiang Xiaochuan’s demeanor had changed from the initial kindness.

Rong Shaobai anticipated his reaction and didn’t express surprise. He turned the silver ring on his finger and, after careful consideration, said, “Maybe it’s unreasonable for me to make such a request, but I feel that only Mayor Jiang can help me now. We, the Rong family, want to clear our names.”

Jiang Xiaochuan lifted his eyes, the gentleness in his gaze completely vanished, but a smile lingered on his lips. “President Rong, are you kidding me?”

Rong Shaobai replied, “I’m serious.” His smile faded abruptly.
