Chapter 5: Battle for the dungeon.
In the dungeon core control room that doubled as their cozy apartment, Nekra, and Yuki were jolted awake by a blaring alarm.
"Yuki, nya? Please turn off the alarm, nya," Nekra mumbled, trying to squeeze in a few more minutes of sleep.
"Master, the dungeon is being invaded," Yuki's voice was filled with urgency as she rose from her resting place.
"Nya?" Nekra yawned, her eyes heavy with sleep, and her hand rubbing away the drowsiness. She was coming to terms with the fact that peaceful moments in their new world could be short-lived. Sure the goblins were in the dungeon already… However, they were digging and making it bigger, with free labor and free DP.
"Shall we check the computer?" Nekra asked, heading toward the central control console. She wasn't entirely sure about the best course of action yet, but the computer would provide some necessary information.
Yuki nodded in agreement.
Nekra swiftly accessed the video surveillance of their dungeon, where a disconcerting sight met her eyes. Approximately a hundred adventurers were stationed outside, while inside the cave, a staggering two thousand goblins had expanded their presence.
"Nya, this is going to be quite interesting," Nekra remarked, intrigued by the impending confrontation. She pondered whether the adventurers were truly prepared to face such an overwhelming number of goblins.
“When did we get that many Goblins?” Yuki asks in shock
“Nya, they wandered in… They were paying us DP to do labor so I left them be nya.” Nekra says her ears twitching slightly.
“You just let them live in the dungeon?” Yuki asks surprised.
“Of course Nya. Our core is hidden and we just look like a natural cave nyow.” Nekra says
"Could it be that they're unaware of the goblins' strength and sent a scouting party?" Yuki suggested, trying to make sense of the adventurers' seemingly irrational tactics.
Nekra observed in silence as the initial team of ten spearmen ventured into the cave. Their movements were hesitant, and they lacked coordination, possibly due to the confines of the cave. They may not even be familiar with one another and do not know how to act as a cohesive unit. Within moments, eight of the spearmen had perished, struggling to wield their weapons effectively having hit walls and at a disadvantage due to the battlefield.
The remaining two, both women, were seized by the group of goblins they had encountered. Their fate remained uncertain as they were dragged away, a chilling and gruesome scene.
Outside the cave, the adventurers, who had been lounging around earlier, rushed to the entrance in response to the commotion within. The desperate cries and sounds of combat had alerted them to the situation.
Observing the fight on the surveillance screen, Nekra couldn't help but pass judgment. "They are so unprepared, and their lack of training will be their undoing, nya." She watched in dismay as the adventurers were gradually pushed back into a corner by the relentless goblin horde.
"At least, we're gaining a significant amount of DP," Yuki remarked, trying to find a silver lining in the annoying situation.
"With all this DP, how about we try creating some robots?" Nekra's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm, her excitement evident.
“Like the anime Robots?” Yuki asks
Nekra nods excitedly in response.
Yuki contemplated the idea. "Why robots, though? Can't we simply buy golem magic?"
"Nya? You have a point," Nekra conceded, her initial excitement shifting toward a more pragmatic approach.
"We should also consider fortifying the core's protection," Yuki adds seeing the literal battle taking place in the dungeon.
Nekra nodded in agreement, and they both turned their attention to the task at hand. Suddenly, a massive burst of flames appeared on the surveillance screen, a display of powerful magic that piqued Nekra's curiosity.
"Nya? Perhaps we should seal off the entrance and make it look like a cave-in," Nekra suggested, a strategic move to prevent further goblin invasions. It would also trap air and prevent everyone from escaping.
"Nekra dear, why don't we hire a maid before taking that step?" Yuki pointed at the screen that displayed a mysterious figure. The woman had crimson red eyes, hinting at her vampiric nature.
"I think she's a higher-ranked vampire, though not a noble one," Yuki surmised. "Given your status as a vampire princess, she might instinctively follow your lead."
"If she's of high rank, simple suffocation shouldn't be enough to end her," Nekra considered Yuki's words. She appreciated her companion's concern for the new addition to their team.
"Right," Yuki agreed, and Nekra proceeded to collapse the entrance of the dungeon, cutting off the outside world. Although some of the adventurers heard the noise, they remained committed to their fight.
As the fighting raged on, Nekra noted with grim satisfaction, "It's a war of attrition, nya."
Several hours passed, and the brutal clash between adventurers and goblins continued. The adventurers displayed a lack of training and coordination, making their defeat seem inevitable.
“This is taking forever nya, I want to cuddle with Yuki.” Nekra complains
"Even so, we're accumulating a substantial amount of DP," Yuki remarked hugging her master from behind.
Nekra nodded in agreement, her eyes still glued to the screen. At last, a ray of hope appeared. The mage who had used the powerful fire magic began to falter. The once-mighty flames grew smaller, and even their torches dimmed.
"It's almost time," Yuki said, handing Nekra a plate of her favorite food, her way of offering comfort during the tense situation. The secret ingredient was love… and blood, mostly blood.
In the dungeon, as several adventurers suddenly started wheezing, they were easily taken down by the goblins. Distracted and struggling to breathe, they had become easy targets.
At the same time, the mysterious vampire watched the chaos with horror, knowing her cover would be blown if she managed to survive this ordeal. Her crimson eyes burned with intensity as she made a desperate decision.
"What happened? Is it some sort of poisonous gas?" she inquired, choosing to reveal her presence after having concealed her identity by pretending to be mute. Her vampire instincts took over as her claws extended, and she leaped headfirst into the heart of the goblin horde, determined to protect her own existence.
