Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Give Me One More Week
Who are you people?
Seeing these aggressive newcomers, Chen Yinuo immediately pulled Ye Youyou behind her and frowned as she asked.
"If I say we're wealth-distributing immortals, would you believe me?"
The man leading the group smirked playfully as he sized up Chen Yinuo.
"You're here for Ye Chen, aren't you?"
Under his intense gaze, Chen Yinuo instinctively took a step back.
The leader didn't reply.
Instead, he sneered and looked at Ye Chen. "College boy, you think ignoring our calls means we can't find you? You've been overdue for an entire week. With interest, it's now 270,000 yuan. Isn't it time you paid up?"
"He owes you 270,000 yuan?"
Chen Yinuo, in disbelief, pointed at Ye Chen and asked.
"That's right. You're his wife, aren't you? So, shouldn't a wife help her husband out?"
The leader's eyes glinted with malice as he glanced at Chen Yinuo, lifting his foot as if to approach her.
"I'm the one responsible! If you dare drag my wife into this, I'll risk my life to take you down!"
Noticing the man's movement toward Chen Yinuo, Ye Chen grabbed a beer bottle from the floor and shouted hoarsely.
At that moment, memories from his previous life flooded his mind like a rapidly piecing puzzle.
In his previous life, this very incident—loan sharks knocking at his door—was the beginning of his descent into darkness.
On that day, he had watched helplessly as Chen Yinuo was harassed, never daring to utter a single word in protest.
In the end, he was beaten bloody and forced to kneel, pleading desperately for an extra week to repay the money.
After the debt collectors left, Chen Yinuo, who had adamantly refused to divorce him before, finally placed the divorce papers in front of him. Only then did he sign his name.
Faced with a debt of 270,000 yuan, he couldn't scrape together the money in a week—or even in a hundred weeks.
When the week flew by, and he was packing to flee, the debt collectors caught him.
What haunted him for months afterward was why, after a brutal beating, the loan sharks let him go.
It wasn't until six months later, after Chen Yinuo and Ye Youyou had tragically perished alongside the middle-aged bald tycoon she remarried, that Ye Chen learned the truth.
Back then, those loan sharks had called Chen Yinuo, threatening to kill Ye Chen if the debt wasn't repaid.
In desperation, Chen Yinuo borrowed money from that bald tycoon who had been relentlessly pursuing her, agreeing to marry him in exchange for the funds to pay off Ye Chen's debt.
After the remarriage, the tycoon's true colors emerged: a controlling, abusive monster. Not only was Chen Yinuo a victim of his violence, but even Ye Youyou, then just a little girl of four or five, wasn't spared.
Finally pushed to her breaking point, Chen Yinuo laced his drink with sleeping pills one night, set the house on fire, and perished in the blaze along with him and Ye Youyou.
Ye Chen only discovered all this six months after their deaths.
It was then he realized: he had killed his wife and daughter. It was him—this wretched man!
If not for saving him, Chen Yinuo would never have borrowed money from that tycoon.
If she hadn't borrowed the money, she wouldn't have married him.
If she hadn't married him, the tragedy wouldn't have occurred.
It was all because of him.
Now, having been sent back to the past by fate, to the moments before all these tragedies unfolded, he swore he wouldn't let history repeat itself. He swore!
"Waving that beer bottle around, who do you think you're scaring? You think debtors are kings now?"
The leader stopped moving toward Chen Yinuo, his rage evident as he stormed toward Ye Chen.
"Teach him a lesson first! Show this punk how the world works before we talk about the money!"
At the leader's command, the group of loan shark enforcers launched a flurry of punches and kicks at Ye Chen.
In his previous life, after amassing wealth, Ye Chen had trained extensively in martial arts, becoming so skilled that even seasoned military fighters struggled against him.
But in his current state—his body weakened from years of self-neglect—no amount of combat knowledge could compensate.
"Don't hurt my daddy! You bad people, stop hitting my daddy!"
Seeing her father being beaten, Ye Youyou cried hysterically.
If Chen Yinuo hadn't been holding her tightly, the little girl would have rushed over.
Chen Yinuo, however, remained cold and indifferent, her face showing traces of a sneer.
She felt no pity for Ye Chen's plight—only satisfaction.
"Serves him right! He deserves this!"
Suddenly—
CRASH!
The sound of shattering glass echoed through the room.
With all his remaining strength, Ye Chen had smashed the beer bottle he'd been holding.
Clutching the jagged end, his bloodied face twisted in determination as he lunged at the leader.
One arm wrapped around the man's neck while the other pressed the broken bottle against his carotid artery.
"STOP! Everyone stop, right now!"
The leader, now a hostage, shouted in terror.
"Ye Chen, let's talk, okay? Don't do anything rash! This is a lawful society—murder is punishable by death. Stay calm, please!"
No amount of reasoning about laws and consequences could sway Ye Chen.
Ignoring the blood dripping from his forehead and into his eyes, he growled, "Give me one more week. I'll repay every cent—with interest—one week from now."
"Put the bottle down first, and we can talk, alright?" the leader begged.
"I said one week!" Ye Chen hissed, pressing the bottle slightly harder, drawing a faint trickle of blood from the man's neck.
"Okay, okay! One week! I promise, one week!" the leader cried out in panic.
Hearing this, Ye Chen finally released him.
Though it was only a verbal agreement, Ye Chen's knowledge of these types of people made him believe it.
"Boss! Boss!"
The enforcers quickly surrounded the shaken leader.
"Get out!"
The leader shoved them aside, clutching the small wound on his neck.
Pointing at Ye Chen, he growled, "You've got guts. Really. One week. I'll give you one more week. But if I don't see the money then, not even the gods can save you."
With a wave of his hand, the loan sharks left as swiftly as they'd come.
In the now-silent apartment, only Ye Chen—his head bleeding profusely—Chen Yinuo's cold expression, and Ye Youyou's tearful cries remained.
