Chapter 13: The restricted section
The first thing to come to my senses was the smell of dust and old tomes. The room was practically bathed in the smell. As my senses were assaulted I slowly scanned the room, look for anything of interest in the immediate area. There was no magical symbols or runes that my identify ability could find and all I saw was multiple book shelves with the books having chains over them leading into a central locking mechanism that seemingly 'jailed' them.
'Hmm this'll be tricky sis.'
[I agree, if you can open every single one of them just store them away to unlock later.]
'Good idea.'
I started to walk towards the closest bookshelf. It was yet again made out of mahogany like many of the furnishings in the library but it had several carvings and indentations on the outside of it, making it look exquisite.
The closer I got to the bookshelf the more I noticed a faint shimmer to the exterior layer of wood, as if it was water reflecting light. The hairs on my arm rose a tiny bit as i felt a pulsing of warmth in the air.
'It's magically warded...'
[Yes it is...]
'I'll try Alohomora again, I may work, if it doesn't I may have to spend some point and make a spell again.'
I raised my hand slightly in the direction of the ward my magic slowly trickling into the ward. My MP that was at 100 was slowly being drained by 10 MP per second i attempted this making me hyperventilate a little.
'I don't think its even close to budging...'
My eyes narrowed as I withdrew my remaining MP, which had drizzled down to a measly 10 MP. Sweat trickled down my forehead as my chest heaved ever so slightly from exertion.
'Sis, is there an item i can buy that will allow me to temporarily disable a ward, just long enough to possibly transfer all of the books into my ring?'
[Interesting. Searching...]
[Ding! Here is a list of available options.]
|Shop|
[1-- Ring of Dispel Magic (1000 Diamonds)
[2-- Broach of Free Passing (100,000 Diamonds)
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
[The rest are way above your level of Diamonds to view currently.]
'Damn, get me 4 Mana potions, looks like we'll be creating a spell'
[Completed sis. They are in your ring.]
[400-400 , 0 Diamonds left]
I instantly took out one Mana Potion after another, chugging them before throwing them back into my inventory.
[Overfilled on mana, channelling extra mana into system for use in impending skill usage.]
'Thanks sis. Now I need a spell that can temporarily disable wards, I'll take as long as I can get on the duration of the disabling but as long as there is enough time to use my spatial ring.'
[Calculating...]
[Estimated Spell: Wardbane Hex, duration of disabling: 2 minutes. ]
[MP cost to construct: 500 MP]
[Requires the chant: {Wardbane Hex} followed by a flicking of the hand.]
'Do it sis, that is exactly what I needed, how much does it cost MP wise per usage?'
[Requires 50 MP.]
'Nice!'
[Starting Magic Creation...]
[Ding! You have created the spell: {Wardbane Hex} for 500MP]
I felt a significant but bearable pull on my mana reserves as before me appeared the runic symbols that made up the new spell. My eyes widened and i felt a vague flash touch the back of my eyeballs before my vision fully returned to normal, the knowledge to cast the spell now intrinsically bound to my mind.
'Why didn't this happen with the invisibility spell!?'
[That spell became innate to you because you did not mention any restriction to its usage, such as chanting, components, hand gestures, etc... Hence it cost so much more MP and it is now just something you can use naturally.]
'I really should have asked more question shouldn't I?'
[Mhm, its what I'm here for...]
'A-anyway, I have a question now that is probably important.'
[Go on...]
'How much MP do I regenerate and what rate do I regenerate it at?'
[Good question, you gain MP at a rate of 1 MP per minute currently, meaning 60 MP per hour. or 1,440 MP Per day.]
'Damn okay, well, let's see if my identify ability can see through the wards into the books behind.'
I looked past the shimmering ward, my eyes trained on a tightly chained book with fancy leatherworking on the spine.
My eyes widened into saucers as I read the title of the book, soon becoming beacons of excitement as I realised I can see through the ward. I soon looked at the ward as well curious if my identify ability could read what it is.
'Wait, seriously? It isn't a dangerous ward?'
[Doesn't seem like it... Try to pull a book out with your hands.]
'I don't know, seems dangerous... Ah, let's give it a shot my ability is telling me that it isn't a ward of eating your face off so...'
I put out my hand grasping for the book on Apparition and when my hand rested on it attempting to pull it out, there was no movement.
'So it locks the books as in physically locks them into place.'
'What if I just put the book shelves into my ring, it also gives me a good alibi if they suspect me, where the hell am I going to put the book cases? Under my bed? Haha, I can imagine the conversation now.'
[Good idea sis. I like the way your brain is thinking!]
With that idea in mind I quickly thought of taking all of the bookshelves in the restricted section, my mind scurrying with possibilities and excitement as I ruthlessly stole some of the most treasured books from Hogwarts.
When i cleared out the whole room all that was left was a desk at the far back of the room with several pieces of parchment strewn over it and a door diagonally to the right of it.
'The forbidden section... Let's get that as well shall we?'
[Haha, they are going to be so pissed! The funny thing about it too is they won't be able to track it down due to all of the things being in your ring! He He.]
I froze for a moment as I heard tracking but when my sister finished her sentence I chuckled a little as well. I skipped my way over to the desk my senses not triggering at all to the mundane looking desk. My eyes skimmed over the papers but they ended up being notes on the relations between muggles and Wizarding folk.
'Who bloody cares, all the pure bloods are inbreeding and the only ones that are bring new things to the game are muggle-born wizards and witches... Just look at Hermione!'
[Okay calm down, the person who wrote those ain't there to yell at and for all we know he may agree...]
'True, sorry needed to vent a bit after today and yesterday...'
[It's okay, please focus on the task though.]
I nodded slightly as I checked my map function in the system. I didn't notice anyone or any cat pinging on the map so I continued to the doorway of the Forbidden Section. The door was dark crimson red with a wooden texture, a myriad spectrum of lights flickered across it exterior causing the hairs on my body to stand upright and my mouth to start salivating.
'Let's do this, I need to get in get out... Could you display a timer on the system interface?'
[Done, I will start when you cast the spell.]
'Okay, in: 1, 2...'
