Raising magical girls, and leave them with eternal regret?!

Chapter 63 - Good ending

The next day, WuYue’s birthday.

Early that morning, before the sun was fully up, YouYu heard a soft knock at his door. Even through the muted sounds, he could tell that it was WuYue calling his name.

“Already here so early?”

“Looks like yesterday’s plan worked pretty well,” YouYu mused as he got out of bed, dressed, and opened the door.

Standing right there was WuYue, beaming up at him.

“Hehe! YouYu, how do you like my outfit? Looks good, doesn’t it?”

“…You’re this excited today, huh? But there’s no need to be in such a rush to get dressed—our cake pickup isn’t until the afternoon.”

“Mhm! But you promised last night that you’d take me out this morning! No backing out now!”

“Of course, I haven’t forgotten! But… let’s get some breakfast first.”

“Already thought of that! I’ve got breakfast all ready; just waiting on you!”

“Alright, alright… I’ll try to eat fast so we can head out sooner.”

Watching WuYue’s eager expression, YouYu’s smile was both amused and fond. WuYue, satisfied, grinned and stepped aside to let him pass.

After washing up, he’d join her for breakfast and then take her out as promised.

“She’s almost completely back to her old self,” YouYu thought while he freshened up.

“Though… there’s still a slight change.”

WuYue was still as cheerful and outgoing as before, but now she seemed to act a bit more affectionate. He’d noticed it just last night over dinner—she had a more playful, teasing side now.

As for that “yandere” side… it hadn’t really shown up recently, or maybe she was hiding it well. Last night, she’d even asked him to call Bai Yu to see if she could come. And when he reported back, WuYue didn’t react strongly; she simply looked a little disappointed.

Then, they just had a normal evening—chatting, doing their own things—before heading off to bed without anything out of the ordinary happening.

For now, WuYue seemed more mature than before—or, at least, more easygoing. It was a nice change, but he’d still keep an eye on things to be sure.

With that thought, YouYu finished washing up and ate the breakfast WuYue had prepared. After spending so much time with him, she knew what he liked, and she’d cooked up a spread of his favorites, which he finished in no time.

Seeing his lingering expression, WuYue laughed and teased him.

“Alright, alright! I know it was good… but let’s get going now! You can have more next time—no more stalling!”

“So that’s why you made my favorite breakfast, huh? Just to hurry me along… a bit sneaky, WuYue.”

Smiling, YouYu stood, gathered his things, and walked to the door.

“Well then, before we pick up the cake, let’s go for a nice walk.”

“And maybe… find you some flowers along the way.”

“Hehe, thanks, YouYu! But as for gifts… shouldn’t you pick that out in secret? That way, there’s at least some surprise!”

“You do have a point.”

As they stepped outside, YouYu held the door for her and said:

“Alright, hop on. I’ll take you there on my bike.”

“Okay!”

WuYue nodded, excitedly agreeing.

So, with WuYue, YouYu spent a long while strolling around with her, and along the way, he discreetly picked up a bouquet, intending to surprise her with it that evening.

By afternoon, it was time to collect the cake, and they wrapped up their outing to head over and pick it up.

“Hop on, WuYue.”

“Okay!”

Riding his motorcycle, YouYu drove WuYue toward the cake shop. Perhaps all her morning excitement had worn off, as WuYue had now settled into a quiet calm, resting against his back and feeling the wind brush her face as they sped through the scenery.

“…”

“YouYu.”

As they paused at a red light, WuYue suddenly called his name, then continued:

“Bai Yu…is she really not coming? You called her earlier, right? What did she say?”

“Oh…you mean when you asked me to call her just now.”

After a moment’s thought, YouYu replied, “Yeah…she declined, said something urgent came up today, so she couldn’t come.”

“I see…”

“…”

Sensing the quiet sadness from WuYue behind him, YouYu asked, “So, what exactly happened that day between you and Bai Yu? She seems a bit off lately, too.”

WuYue was silent momentarily before replying, “…I might have said something hurtful to her.”

“So…that’s why she’s like this now.”

“I see.”

“…”

“Do you think it was your fault, WuYue?”

“…”

“Yes.”

“Alright.”

With a nod, YouYu moved forward as the light turned green, continuing to drive down the road.

“Then, after we get the cake, I’ll take you to talk with her.”

“Though I don’t know exactly what you said, if you feel it was your mistake…then go and apologize to her properly..”

“If you explain everything clearly, then…no matter what kind of misunderstanding or conflict there is, it should be something you can work through.”

“Once you’ve made up, we can bring her back to celebrate with you.”

“Just like we’re doing now, right?”

“…”

“Mm.”

WuYue nodded, agreeing with his suggestion.

Truthfully, ever since she and YouYu had their falling out, she’d never thought they’d have a chance to make things right again. She had believed their conflict was irreconcilable, doomed to end poorly.

But…how they were getting along now had already proven her wrong.

So…

“After we get the cake, I’ll go to Bai Yu and talk things through.”

The ending of this birthday …… No one should get hurt.

It will be good!
