Chapter 53 - Bai Yu you’ve been a real help!
The next day.
Due to the already reduced training time and intensity, both Bai Yu and WuYue had freed up their schedules for the afternoon after school, allowing them to handle their personal matters.
YouYu was staying home and dealing with his recent photography work. After all, Bai Yu had mentioned yesterday that she would talk to him about “that matter” today, but before that, she still had her part-time job, so she wasn’t free immediately.
So, since there was still some time before Bai Yu would finish work, YouYu decided to stay home and get his things done. When she was ready, he would head over to the agreed location.
“……”
He wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but just as YouYu finished his work, he heard the sound of the front door opening.
No need to guess—WuYue had returned.
“Same time as yesterday…”
Noticing her return, YouYu felt a bit disappointed yet somewhat relieved. After all, she had come back at the same time yesterday as well.
He initially thought that after the awkward situation they’d experienced yesterday, WuYue would make at least some small change, like coming back earlier. But clearly, he had been too optimistic.
Still… at least she hadn’t come back even later. That was a small consolation.
“At least I can still manage her for now.”
Shaking his head, YouYu left his room and greeted WuYue as he had done every day.
And her response, as always over the past few days, was soft, filled with guilt and unease.
In the following times, YouYu tried engaging her in conversation again, but the response and attitude remained the same.
However… after talking to her too many times, WuYue’s emotions seemed to falter, and she started showing signs of self-deprecation.
“……”
To avoid further upsetting her, YouYu decided to hold off on any more interaction for now. He only said a few important matters before they both went about their own things.
This atmosphere lasted all the way until it was time for dinner.
“Beep, beep—”
“Hm?”
Just as they were about to sit down for dinner, as WuYue placed the last dish on the table, YouYu’s phone suddenly vibrated and started ringing from inside his pocket.
When he took it out to check, Bai Yu’s name was displayed on the screen.
“Of all times…”
Looking at the caller ID, YouYu hesitated for a moment. Instead of immediately answering, he raised his head and glanced at WuYue sitting across from him.
He noticed that she was looking back at him as well.
“Ah! YouYu… you don’t have to worry about me… someone must be looking for you, right? You can take the call. I don’t mind…”
Noticing YouYu’s gaze, WuYue panicked for a moment, but after taking a deep breath, she quickly calmed herself down and said.
“……”
“Alright.”
Seeing that WuYue had calmed down, YouYu nodded and answered Bai Yu’s call, conversing briefly with her. After about a minute, he hung up, thought for a moment, and then turned to WuYue.
“Sorry, WuYue, something suddenly came up, and I need to head out. I might not be able to have dinner with you tonight. You can go ahead and eat without me.”
“Ah! No, it’s fine! If something came up suddenly… it’s understandable…” WuYue waved her hand, hurriedly responding.
“But… but! I’ll still wait for you to come back before I have dinner.”
“……”
“Alright, I’ll come back as soon as I can. I won’t let you wait too long.”
Seeing WuYue’s anxious expression, YouYu nodded and reassured her that he would return quickly before returning to his room.
Once back, YouYu quickly gathered his things, changed his clothes, and prepared to leave.
“I’ll have to come back earlier…”
It seemed he couldn’t spend too much time talking with Bai Yu. Once he arrived, he needed to get straight to the point and return quickly. After all, with WuYue in her current state, he couldn’t leave her alone for too long.
He still wasn’t sure why Bai Yu insisted on meeting in person instead of just chatting over the phone. Once he arrived, he should ask her.
With these thoughts in mind, YouYu opened the front door and was about to step outside—
However…
“YouYu…”
At that moment, WuYue suddenly grabbed his clothes, stopping him in his tracks.
Feeling her grip from behind, YouYu was momentarily stunned. He turned back and asked,
“What’s wrong?”
“…… It’s nothing, just—”
After hesitating for a while, WuYue, her gaze avoiding his, finally couldn’t hold back any longer. Her emotions suddenly surged for reasons unknown, and she spoke with an intensity that caught YouYu off guard.
“You’re going out so suddenly… you’re going to see Bai Yu, right? It’s Bai Yu, right?”
“Where are you going? What are you going to talk about? How long will you be talking? After that, what are you going to do? You two…”
“……”
After rambling on without realizing it, WuYue finally noticed YouYu’s silence. She quickly realized what she had just blurted out, and as swiftly as her earlier confidence had surged, it now deflated. Panicking, she said,
“Ah! I didn’t mean anything by it. I just… I overheard your conversation yesterday, so… I was just a little curious.”
Despite her words, her expression and the way she had spoken moments ago made her “I didn’t mean anything” seem anything but convincing.
As expected, this matter was making her uneasy.
But…
It also hinted at a certain possibility.
“It’s okay, WuYue, I understand everything.”
Seeing WuYue’s flustered state, YouYu suddenly smiled and said,
“You’re just worried about me, aren’t you?”
“Eh?”
“It’s fine. You don’t have to worry. I’m just going to meet her to deal with some intel on the Negative Beasts. I’ll be back soon.”
“And when I get back, I might need your help with something. Is that alright?”
“Eh? I… no problem.”
“Good! Then I’ll head out now. I’ll be back soon. See you later!”
“Ah?! … S-See you!”
With WuYue still, in a confused daze, YouYu said goodbye and hopped on his motorcycle, heading to the agreed meeting spot.
And a smile crept onto his face.
“Just as I thought…!”
Although he had been worried before leaving, but not anymore.
Because involving Bai Yu in this matter had been the right decision!
And just now, that had been confirmed.
The slight hint of a “yandere” personality, which had been buried deep in WuYue’s heart, still existed!
If handled correctly, it might even be possible to bring out WuYue’s “yandere” attribute through Bai Yu’s influence.
After all, WuYue’s yandere side hadn’t reached an extreme level yet—it was still within his control.
As long as he could fully break through her “reclusiveness” by channeling her yandere side…
WuYue would return to her usual self!
Everything would be fine!
And besides… who knows? There might even be other solutions beyond the yandere path.
“Bai Yu, this time you’ve been a real help…”
