Chapter 51 - WuYue's unease
Two days later, it was time for WuYue to return to school.
Since their argument on Saturday night, WuYue hadn’t spoken a single word to YouYu the following day. She stayed home, going about her own things—studying or mindlessly scrolling through her phone.
Seeing her like this, YouYu had tried to initiate conversation a few times, but most of WuYue’s responses were limited to “Mm” or “Okay,” which left the conversation hanging awkwardly.
Eventually, YouYu had to give up on trying to break the silence. Instead, he chose to simply stay by her side, making sure she didn’t do anything reckless.
Fortunately… WuYue hadn’t done anything drastic. She just kept to herself, focusing on her own things, with little reaction to him. In that sense, at least, it was a relief.
But in the long run…
“This isn’t good…”
Waiting outside her room while she changed clothes before heading to school, YouYu thought to himself.
It was obvious by now—they had fallen into a sort of “cold war.” Although it was WuYue who was distancing herself from him, it was still a worrying situation.
On the bright side, at least no knives were pulled out.
But no matter how he looked at it, YouYu knew he couldn’t let this cold war drag on. The longer it continued, the harder it would be to break through the “wall” she was slowly building in her heart.
He had to think of a way… and fast, before that wall became too strong to break down.
“…”
Just as he was deep in thought, the sound of a door opening caught his attention. Looking up, YouYu saw that WuYue had finished changing and was ready to head out.
Seeing her like this, YouYu paused his thoughts momentarily and nodded. He spoke to her, trying to sound casual:
“Alright, WuYue. I’ll go outside and bring my bike around. You can wait by the door. I just bought a new motorcycle, so I thought it’d be nice to take you to school on it—”
“Ah… that won’t be necessary, YouYu.”
Before he could finish, WuYue shook her head and declined.
WuYue gave him an apologetic smile and said,
“Recently… I’ve decided to go to school by myself. There’s a physical exam coming up, so… I thought it’d be good for me to bike there and back.”
“And besides, there’s no need to worry about me oversleeping anymore, right? And… I don’t have to trouble you, YouYu.”
“…”
“That’s all I wanted to say.”
Hearing her words, YouYu stood there, a bit stunned. Then, with an awkward smile, he replied,
“Well, yeah, biking to school will definitely help with fitness…”
“So, alright then, go ahead.”
“Okay.”
“…”
He watched as WuYue walked to the door, got on her bike, and pedalled away. A sigh escaped him as she disappeared down the street.
“Like I thought.”
“Of all things…”
“It just had to be a cold war…”
Relationship type of situation was one of the worst things he was at handling.
He was in a real bind this time.
He thought to himself, feeling a bit pessimistic.
After all, back when he was still on Earth, he would simply cut ties whenever a situation like this came up. It was less exhausting to sever relationships than to spend time and energy dealing with such things.
But now, faced with WuYue’s ‘cold war’ against him, his usual approach wouldn’t work. His flaws were painfully apparent.
“What am I supposed to do next…”
Should he ask Mamba for advice? No, that wouldn’t work. Not only was Mamba currently in hibernation, but even if it weren’t, someone like it wouldn’t understand emotions or relationships.
Look for Bai Yu? Perhaps it’s worth a try, but there was also a chance the situation would worsen.
“Looks like I still need to think this through carefully…”
If all else fails, he might have to use his identity as the “Ouja” and stage a performance.
—
“…”
“Just as I thought…”
Can’t concentrate.
Can’t listen.
This was how WuYue spent her day at school.
“But since I’ve decided, I must stick to it…”
She thought to herself, shaking her head with a hint of bitterness before lowering her gaze to the chaotic characters in the book and letting out a sigh.
Ever since that night, she had made a decision.
To distance herself from YouYu and avoid any further contact,
She had realized that the feelings stirring within her were so filthy, so twisted… If she couldn’t control them, it would inevitably lead to harm—not just to herself, but to others as well.
So… to prevent this from happening again, even if it meant enduring more pain alone, she couldn’t allow herself to reach out to YouYu.
Thus, she decided not to attend today’s “training.”
If she went there and something happened—something she didn’t want…
She couldn’t bear to think about it.
“…”
“WuYue…”
“WuYue?”
“Eh?!”
Suddenly, someone called her name.
Hearing her name, WuYue snapped back to reality and turned to look toward the voice.
What she saw was a girl with long blue hair—Bai Yu.
“You’re still here? School’s over, you know? Aren’t you going back with YouYu?”
At Bai Yu’s question, WuYue’s expression tensed up suddenly, and she hurriedly explained,
“Ah! Well… I have a bit of homework today, so I thought I’d stay a while longer… Besides, I’ve decided to ride my bike to school alone from now on… after all, there’s going to be a physical education exam soon! You should know that!”
“……Oh, I see. No wonder I didn’t see him drive you on his motorcycle today. He told me before that he’d pick you up from school with that bike… Seems like he’s a bit unlucky and will have to wait.”
After a slight smirk of schadenfreude, Bai Yu didn’t forget the purpose of her visit. She softly added,
“Then I’ll wait here for you after school. YouYu just called me and said he wants to adjust our training schedule. He mentioned something about wanting to reduce the intensity of our training…”
“I was going to head straight over, but he called me saying he hadn’t seen you and was a bit worried and asked me to help find you.”
“So…”
“Did something happen, WuYue?”
“…”
Faced with Bai Yu’s concerned gaze, Wu Yue fell silent momentarily before shaking her head and smiling,
“No! I’m fine!”
“Let’s go over now!”
“…”
Seeing this, Bai Yu confirmed her suspicion.
Something must have happened between WuYue and YouYu.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t be acting so strangely now!
