Chapter 186: Going Home
Liking or not liking it actually doesn't matter; after all, they still had to go back to find out.
Because Luo Yanran's major had a particularly late exam, their return time wasn't very early.
Although it wasn't the busy Spring Festival travel season, there were still quite a few people around.
As soon as the two of them got off the plane and walked out, they saw Xie Qingxiao standing there waiting.
This year he was teaching seniors and hadn't had a break yet, but he had no classes this afternoon and came to pick up his son and his future daughter-in-law.
As for Luo Yanran's family driver, he had also arrived but had been told by Luo Yanran to wait in the underground parking lot and hadn't come up.
Luo Tian and his wife definitely didn't have the time to come down yet.
After all, they were busier toward the end of the year; Luo's mother even had a few years where she wasn't at home for the New Year.
Luo Yanran was already used to this.
When Xie Qingxiao saw them come out, he walked over and took the suitcase from Luo Yanran's hand, "It's good you're back. There are quite a lot of people today; I thought I was seeing things."
Luo Yanran quickly took back her suitcase, "It's okay, Uncle; I can manage."
"Don't be polite. You must be tired from the plane ride, right? How about you come to our house for dinner and I'll drive you back later? Your aunt is off work today and is at home cooking something delicious," Xie Qingxiao probably knew about Luo Yanran's family situation from Xie Xiao.
Thinking that it was not good for the child to be alone at home right after getting back, although he could understand her parents were busy with work, he also couldn't help feeling uneasy thinking of the child eating alone.
Luo Yanran smiled, "No need, Uncle. I'll visit in a couple of days. The family driver is here today."
Xie Xiao on the side sighed, "Mr. Xie, you should at least talk to your son a bit. It's hurtful, you know?"
Xie Xiao wrapped an arm around Luo Yanran who was standing beside him, "Luo Uncle has already called the driver; she definitely needs to go home."
Xie Qingxiao only then seemed to reluctantly glance at his son, still somewhat disdainful, "What's there to look at in this smelly kid."
Even though he said that, he still reached out and patted his shoulder, "Not bad, you look a lot more robust."
Then he led the two young people to the underground parking to get the car.
Finally, after watching Luo Yanran's car drive away, the father and son got into their car.
While driving, Xie Qingxiao said with a smile, "Yanran seemed much more relaxed this time, previously she always seemed too tense."
"How could she not be tense before? She was still young then," Xie Xiao replied with a laugh, "Now, well, we are moving out to live together next semester..."
Xie Qingxiao looked at him surprisingly through the rearview mirror, "Really? Her parents agreed to it?"
If he had a daughter, he definitely wouldn't agree.
It was then that Xie Xiao finally told his father about Luo Yanran staying in the dorm, something neither of them had told their parents before.
As expected, after hearing this, Xie Qingxiao frowned and said, "Nonsense, such a big matter and you didn't inform the family?"
Xie Xiao had anticipated that they would be somewhat upset and patiently explained, "This matter doesn't really involve us directly, and it's not a big deal. You can't be expected to leave your work to come and accompany us, right? It's not realistic. At that time, we even had bodyguards and policemen following us constantly; it was actually very safe."
Even though he knew Xie Xiao was stating the facts, as a parent, he still worried upon hearing about all the risky incidents that had occurred, even though they were now past.
"But isn't it even more dangerous if you guys move out?" Xie Qingxiao countered, "There are so many people at the school?"
"Dad, you don't have to see danger everywhere. Not everyone is bad. Moving out doesn't mean we think the school is unsafe; it's just that Ranran's dorm is empty, and I don't feel safe with her living there alone. At least if we move out, we can leave and return home together every day. It makes me feel a bit more secure," Xie Xiao replied.
Having said this, Xie Qingxiao naturally didn't have much more to say.
When the two of them got home, Yang Lan was still busy in the kitchen.
Dr. Yang, who normally wouldn't leave the kitchen until the cooking was done, came out upon hearing the noise, evidently missing her son.
"Ah, our Xiao Xiao is back." Yang Lan stretched out her arms and hugged Xie Xiao, her face all smiles, while saying, "You seem to have tanned, but you do feel a lot sturdier. By the way, where's Luoluo?"
Xie Xiao explained that her family driver was coming to pick her up.
Yang Lan felt a bit disappointed, "Oh, I had prepared quite a few dishes she loves."
Xie Xiao put his arm around her and walked inside, "No worries, I'll finish them all. I've really been craving dishes made by our Dr. Yang~"
"Smooth talker..."
Xie Qingxiao watched the mother and son from behind, a smile in his eyes. He shook his head and helped his son carry the suitcase placed next to the door to his room.
The child was home, and it was almost New Year's~
At dinner, Xie Xiao was almost stuffed to bursting, as Dr. Yang and Teacher Xie kept serving him more food, and he felt too embarrassed to refuse.
Eventually, Yang Lan couldn't bear to watch, "Isn't that enough, son? Aren't you full yet?"
Could he have worms in his stomach?
Xie Xiao immediately put down his chopsticks, "I'm about to burst, but this is all your fatherly and motherly love, right? I definitely can't refuse."
This directly made his parents laugh helplessly.
In the end, Xie Xiao and Xie Qingxiao cleared the table, and then when Xie Xiao offered to wash the dishes, his dad sent him out.
So, he just went to sit with his mom and watch TV.
Yang Lan took Xie Xiao's hand, looking at her son who had just left to start school and still had a bit of youthful innocence.
Now, it was completely gone.
Everyone knew her son was doing great, wasn't he?
Everything about her Xiao Xiao was wonderful.
Seeing his mom staring at him, Xie Xiao chuckled, "Mom, I know I'm good-looking, but you don't have to keep staring at me like that."
Yang Lan was amused by him again, "Come and tell mom, how's college life? Are your roommates easy to get along with?"
These were actually things he had mentioned over the phone, but Xie Xiao patiently recounted them.
In the end, he still didn't tell her about the incident that happened in Luo Yanran's dorm,
something he had just agreed on in the car with Xie Qingxiao, fearing Dr. Yang might worry and be unable to sleep all night.
However, Xie Xiao did mention his plan to visit Luo's family.
"Gosh, should your dad and I accompany you? It really has been improper to not visit sooner..." Dr. Yang was indeed starting to get anxious.
Xie Xiao quickly reassured her, "No, Mom, I'm just going to meet the parents. If you guys come with me, it'd turn into something else, right?"
It felt like he was being pushed into marriage.
Which was not appropriate.
Dr. Yang slapped her forehead, "Oh, look at me, just getting a little nervous."
Xie Xiao candidly said, "Actually, I'm nervous too. I'm afraid Ranran's parents won't think highly of me."
Xie Xiao sighed, although everyone said he was excellent, he still felt somewhat afraid.
Could Yang Lan let her son talk down on himself?
No way.
She immediately countered, "Although I admit Ranran is excellent, our Xiao Xiao is also amazing. How could they not think highly of him?"
