Chapter 97: Mom call and player is coming
Red! How's it going over there?
"..."
"Oh! Then I hope you'll tell me everything that happened!"
Red was video-calling Professor Oak through the Pokémon Center PC.
Blue stood nearby, listening silently without saying anything.
"Grandson, aren't you going to say anything to me?"
"I've got nothing to say," Blue replied.
"Hey, saying that makes me sad. Oh, Red, do you know Hilda?"
'Hilda? Sounds familiar.'
[She's the girl you rescued while in the prison at Mt. Moon, host.]
'Oh, her. It's been so many chapters since I've seen her.'
"..."
"She's gone now. I still remember the sad look on her face when she couldn't talk to you through the PC."
"Anyway, I'm done talking now. It's your mom's turn!"
The PC flickered before returning to normal, revealing the familiar room where his mom was waiting—along with Ash.
"BIG BROTHER!"
Red waved at Ash, who cheerfully waved back.
"Red, oh Red, why do you never call me?" Delia sighed, looking at her son, who rarely spoke to her.
Red was the most peculiar child she'd ever met.
He wasn't like his dad or her; it was as if he were a completely different person.
But honestly, Red was still a wonderful child—kind, gentle, and loving toward his family. Delia was immensely proud of him.
And she was sure he'd bring home plenty of potential daughters-in-law (huh?).
Anyway, back to the main topic.
"How's your journey going?"
"..." "Fun? You call ending up in a center bed fun?"
Delia's expression darkened, exuding a terrifying aura that made Ash, Red, Blue, and even the system freeze in fear.
"..."
"Don't explain. You might be able to protect others, but if you can't even protect yourself, what's the point of that? What are you trying to do—turn into Shirou?" (I love sword)
"..." "Haizz, you always make me worry so much." Delia sighed again before smiling at Red.
"Anyway, I forbid you from pulling any more hero stunts. You're only 10 years old! If you keep protecting girls like that, what if one of them proposes to you?"
'Mom, please stop thinking about my future…'
The conversation continued for a few more minutes before Delia and Ash said goodbye and ended the call.
[The host's mother is truly terrifying—like some third brother I've never met before.]
'Shut up.'
Red glanced at Blue, wondering if he would use the PC next.
"No need. I already called earlier. My sister's always worrying about me."
"..." "I've already challenged the Gym, and it seems Leaf has too. You're the only one who hasn't yet."
Huh? When did Leaf challenge the Gym? (I have no idea.)
Red hurriedly prepared and headed to Surge's Gym.
Oh, it seemed other players were here too.
"Lukas! Long time no see! Wait, what's on your face?" Zero2Hero asked Lukas.
"Ugh, I was walking, and some yellow-feathered bird pooped on my face. For some reason, I got electrocuted! I swear I'll roast that bird!" Lukas waved his hands furiously, unable to quell his anger.
"Sounds familiar… Anyway, forget that! NTRSlayer, caught any new Pokémon?"
"Still just the same two as before," Rey replied.
Nearby, Lily noticed Yuna sneaking glances at Lukas with a shy expression before quickly looking away.
...Lukas, what on earth did you do to Yuna?
Blue watched as Red entered the Gym. Stretching his arms, he decided to leave without waiting around.
Looking at the gathering players, he clicked his tongue and left Vermilion City.
Meanwhile, the players began to gather in greater numbers. Even Bob, Oceanlover, Birdup, Bigchef, and several others had arrived.
"What?! Only you and Billy got to take part in that quest?!" Rey and the other players exclaimed in surprise.
"Hehe, it was tough to complete that mission. You have no idea how much I struggled, right, Billy?"
"Yeah, yeah. All you ever do is punch Pokémon with your bare hands anyway," Billy said as she fed her Pidgey.
"Gahh!! I missed a mission with important NPCs?! Nooo, I can't accept this!" Lukas flopped onto the ground, flailing like a child.
"So, what was the reward?" Yuna asked curiously.
"100,000 Pokédollars, a rubber anti-electric suit, 20 Potions, 10 Pokéballs… basically, a ton of stuff. It was a major mission, after all," Billy replied.
"NO!!! I MISSED SUCH A SPECIAL MISSION! THOSE BLACK-SUITED JERKS WILL PAY FOR THIS!!!" Lukas roared in frustration.
"What's wrong with him?"
"He's just crazy. Don't mind him."
Lukas angrily scanned his surroundings and spotted Blue leaving.
"BROTHERS! THAT WAY! THAT NPC MUST HAVE A SPECIAL QUEST WAITING!"
...Yeah, he'd lost it.
"Go by yourself. I haven't even beaten the Gym yet," Rey said.
"If I go with that dude, all the girls will flock to him, and I'll die of jealousy," Bob added.
"I'm tired. I don't want to start a new mission right now, right, Billy?" Zero2Hero nudged Billy with his elbow.
"If you keep nudging me like that, your nuts won't be safe around me," Billy said flatly.
"Sorry."
Everyone declined his offer.
Suddenly, a hand was raised. Everyone turned to look—it was a pink-haired girl.
Yuna.
"I-I'll go," she said.
...Huh?
Everyone was stunned, and Lily's jaw practically hit the ground.
THAT BASTARD LUKAS! WHAT DID HE DO TO HER?!
"Are you sure? You've already had a lot of trouble because of me. I don't want to stress you out more," Lukas said, scratching his head.
"It's fine. Besides, going alone wouldn't be very safe for you…"
...Why did that sound so romantic?
"HEY, HEY, HEY! IF YUNA IS GOING, THEN I'M GOING TOO! I WON'T LET HER BE ALONE WITH YOU!" Lily stepped forward, hugging Yuna and glaring at Lukas, who looked like he was about to wet himself.
"Should we go? Leaving two girls with a retard sounds like a terrible idea," Billy said to Zero2Hero.
"Well... let's go!"
"I thought you said you were tired?"
"I'm not anymore."
"Rin, want to join? Think of it as a way to broaden your horizons," Rey asked Rin, who nodded in agreement.
"Not sure what quest might open up with that NPC, but better to play it safe."
"I'll follow the group."
"I don't know why I'm going, but if the author wants an excuse for us to tag along, fine."
And so, the players decided to follow Blue, hoping to unlock a hidden quest or something…
Player Arc begins!
