Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Onix's Challenge
Geodude, who had been knocked out, ceased maintaining its energy for Rollout. After skidding across the battlefield for several meters, it finally collided with a jagged rock and came to a stop. Purple bubbles floated around its body as the poisoning effect took hold, draining its strength even further.
Ash, sensing victory, seized the moment. "Beedrill, finish it with Twineedle!" he called out, his voice steady and determined.
"Geodude, hang in there!" Brock clenched his fists, his voice filled with urgency as he tried to rally his Pokémon.
Geodude struggled to respond, trembling as it attempted to rise. The cumulative effects of fatigue and poisoning had taken their toll, rendering its movements slow and unsteady. Before it could react, Beedrill darted forward, its eyes locked on its target.
With precise and relentless strikes, Beedrill's Twineedle landed squarely on Geodude. The impact forced Geodude into the ground, creating a half-meter crater beneath it. A loud bang echoed across the battlefield as Geodude succumbed to the attack, lying motionless in the pit.
"Geodude is unable to battle! Beedrill wins!" the referee announced.
Cheers erupted from the audience. Misty clapped her hands excitedly from the sidelines. "Ash, that was amazing!" she exclaimed.
Ash grinned but remained focused. He knew the battle wasn't over yet. Brock's strongest Pokémon had yet to enter the fray.
Across the battlefield, Brock retrieved Geodude's Poké Ball. "You did well, Geodude. Rest now," he said, recalling his Pokémon. His expression was calm but resolute.
Ash observed Brock carefully, knowing that Onix—the Rock Snake Pokémon—was next. After briefly celebrating with Beedrill, Ash instructed it to stay alert.
"The real battle starts now," Brock said, his voice filled with anticipation. For the first time in a long while, he felt truly engaged in a battle. Tossing his Poké Ball high into the air, Brock called out, "Onix, I choose you!"
A brilliant flash of light burst from the Poké Ball, materializing into a massive Onix. Its rocky body towered over the battlefield, segmented like a chain of boulders. The sharp horn atop its head gleamed, adding to its intimidating presence.

Ash felt a wave of pressure seeing Onix in all its massive glory. "An elite-level Pokémon... I expected this, but seeing it up close is something else," he muttered. Despite the pressure, he clenched his fists in determination. Defeating such a formidable opponent would make this victory even more rewarding.
"Beedrill, start with String Shot!" Ash ordered, staying composed.
Beedrill, undeterred by Onix's imposing size, let out a battle cry. It launched silken threads from its mouth, aiming to entangle Onix.
Brock smirked. "Onix, counter with Dragon Breath!"
Onix roared, blue energy swirling in its mouth before erupting into a powerful Dragon Breath. The cyan beam cut through the air, easily disintegrating Beedrill's String Shot before continuing its trajectory toward the Bug-type Pokémon.
"Beedrill, dodge it and get close to Onix!" Ash shouted, his voice cutting through the tension.
The command snapped Beedrill out of its momentary hesitation. With a swift movement, it narrowly avoided the Dragon Breath. The attack struck the ground, leaving a massive crater where Beedrill had been moments before.
Ash quickly devised a strategy. "We need to close the distance," he muttered. Onix's size made it a challenging opponent, but its bulk could also be a disadvantage in close quarters.
Beedrill darted toward Onix, weaving through the debris-strewn battlefield.
"You think I don't know Onix's weaknesses?" Brock called out, a confident edge in his voice. "Onix, use Screech!"
Onix unleashed a deafening roar, soundwaves rippling through the air. The attack hit Beedrill hard, causing it to flinch and stop mid-charge. Visible soundwaves surrounded Beedrill as the move sharply lowered its Defense.

Move Effects
Screech: Harshly lowers the target's Defense by two stages.
---
Beedrill winced, its movements slower as the sound subsided. The impact of Screech had left it vulnerable, and Ash knew he needed to act fast.
"Beedrill, shake it off and use Twineedle!" Ash urged.
But Brock wasn't about to give Ash another opportunity. "Onix, use Rock Throw!"
Onix roared again, hurling large boulders toward Beedrill. The battlefield became a storm of debris as the rocks rained down. Beedrill struggled to dodge, its lowered Defense making even glancing hits more dangerous.
"Stay focused, Beedrill!" Ash shouted. "Dodge and get above Onix!"
Beedrill managed to evade the worst of the attack, climbing higher into the air. It hovered above Onix, waiting for Ash's next command.
"This is our chance," Ash said, a glint of determination in his eyes. "Beedrill, use Twineedle on Onix's head!"
Beedrill dived sharply, its needle-like arms glowing with Bug-type energy. It aimed for the horn atop Onix's head, knowing that it was a weak point.
Brock's eyes widened. "Onix, counter with Bind!"
Onix reacted quickly, swinging its massive body upward. Its segmented tail curled around Beedrill mid-attack, trapping the smaller Pokémon. Beedrill thrashed against Onix's hold, its wings buzzing furiously.

Bind: Traps the target, dealing damage over several turns.

"Beedrill, don't give up!" Ash shouted. "Use Twineedle to break free!"
Beedrill stabbed repeatedly at Onix's rocky coils, causing small cracks to appear. Onix roared in pain but tightened its grip, determined not to let go.
Brock smirked. "You're in a bind now, Ash. Literally."
Ash gritted his teeth. He knew Beedrill couldn't endure much longer. He needed to think of something—and fast.
"Beedrill, String Shot at the ground!" Ash commanded suddenly.
Beedrill obeyed, shooting a sticky thread that anchored it to the ground. Using the thread as leverage, it pulled itself free from Onix's Bind, though not without taking damage.
"Now, use Twineedle again!" Ash shouted.
With a burst of speed, Beedrill closed in on Onix once more. This time, it landed a direct hit on Onix's horn. The impact caused Onix to stagger, its massive body swaying as it tried to regain balance.
"Onix, use Tackle!" Brock countered.
Onix lunged forward, its entire weight barreling toward Beedrill.
"Beedrill, dodge and go for the head again!" Ash called out.
Beedrill narrowly avoided the charge, circling around Onix and landing another hit on its weakened horn. The repeated attacks began to take their toll, and Onix let out a pained roar.
"Onix, you can do this!" Brock encouraged.
But Onix's movements were slowing, its stamina drained from the intense battle. Ash saw his opportunity.
"Beedrill, finish it with Twineedle!"
Beedrill darted in one final time, delivering a pair of devastating strikes to Onix's head. The massive Pokémon wavered before collapsing onto the battlefield, defeated.
"Onix is unable to battle! Beedrill wins!" the referee announced.
Cheers erupted once more as Ash's friends celebrated his victory.
Brock recalled Onix, a small smile on his face. "You've really improved, Ash," he said. "That was a battle I won't forget."
Ash grinned. "Thanks, Brock. That means a lot coming from you."
The battle was over, but the thrill of the challenge lingered. Ash knew this was just one step on his journey to becoming a Pokémon Master.
