Chapter 22 – Dual Type Assumption
ROAR!
Gyarados seemed to be hurt by Blastoise's attack, becoming enraged and using Waterfall, rushing toward Blastoise. Blastoise, on the other hand, used his back as a shield and activated Protect.
Bang!
Both collided equally.
Inside the ship, Gyarados' appearance woke many people and Pokémon. Jonathan, Ivan, and Bianca, with an embarrassed Swablu, looked at Floyd by her side. Kanraku and Suzuki also appeared, observing the scene.
"Floyd-san, what happened?" Seeing Floyd already there, Kanraku rushed to him and inquired.
"I don't know; this monster just suddenly emerged from the water." Floyd was unsure why this creature attacked them, but the ocean was vast; any Pokémon attack could happen at any time.
'Surprisingly, Blastoise also knows the Protect Move,' Floyd thought as he watched them fight. Although Gyarados looked terrifying compared to Blastoise, and had even used Dragon Dance once, it was still not comparable to Blastoise.
Blastoise used Fake Out and slapped Gyarados, whose body shook. Seizing this opportunity, Blastoise launched another Hydro Pump with his two cannons. Gyarados, struck by the first blast and struggling to move, accidentally dodged the second. Even though he dodged it, he felt weakened. He faced Blastoise seriously, finding the battle difficult.
Floyd and the others watched in amazement. This Blastoise was so strong; how had Kanraku trained him like this? He didn't even command him, or did he not know how?
Kanraku remained calm, his expression unchanged. Wasn't this normal? After almost four years together, how could he not know his partner's strength? How many times had they encountered situations like this? The opponent might look stronger, but the strength of beasts cannot be judged by their appearance.
Knowing he couldn't overcome this turtle, Gyarados forcefully used Dragon Dance for the second time. "Blastoise, stop him, he's increasing his strength," Floyd hurriedly warned Blastoise. Although he wasn't sure if Blastoise could handle two stages of Dragon Dance, it was better to be cautious.
"Blastoise?" Blastoise heard what Floyd said and observed Gyarados spinning.
"Floyd-san, you know about this?" Kanraku looked at Floyd, surprised.
"Did you see yesterday when my two beasts protected me? It's similar to what this beast is doing right now. It can not only protect you from minor attacks but also increase the attack and speed of the beast," Floyd explained.
"Then, is this turtle going to be in danger?" Jonathan furrowed his brow, worried about the outcome.
Behind them, Horsea hid, watching the battle anxiously. She felt hesitant but remained concealed.
Understanding Gyarados' intention, Blastoise began striking every part of his shell.
Shell Smash Move!
ROAR!
Gyarados felt out of control; it seemed violent energy started to corrupt his body and mind. He still couldn't control the two stages of Dragon Dance. He lost his mind, growing wild, and rushed toward Blastoise with a basic Tackle move. However, before he could even approach, Blastoise had already disappeared and suddenly reappeared in front of him.
Aqua Jet.
ROAR!
Gyarados felt pain, an energy emanating from his tail. He was about to use Aqua Tail but before he could activate his move, he received a Hydro Pump from Blastoise.
With the effect of Shell Smash and the increased power of Hydro Pump, Gyarados couldn't withstand it and lost consciousness.
"Partner, capture that creature; it's a new species and might be related to the serpent!" exclaimed Kanraku, eyeing the unconscious Gyarados.
'Serpent, tsk.'
Hearing this, Floyd shook his head, knowing this would waste time. Gyarados was Water + Flying type, though it also belonged to the dragon group. Researching this would cost a lot; this guy was barking up the wrong tree. Should I tell him? Floyd pondered.
"Blastoise~" Blastoise nodded and retrieved the unconscious Gyarados from the water.
A few minutes later, the almost 7 meters long Gyarados was already on the ship's deck. Many Pokémon gathered at a distance, looking with curiosity in their eyes but not daring to come closer because Gyarados seemed really intimidating.
Blastoise, Kanraku, and Floyd examined the creature, Suzuki and other crew members looked worriedly at Kanraku, while Bianca observed their work. Jonathan and Ivan were also curious; although Jonathan was excited, neither dared to approach. Wariness lingered in them.
"Professor, I advise you not to fully heal this beast just yet; just cure the internal injuries, so in case it goes wild again, Blastoise can fight easily because It could harm many people and Pokémon here if there's something happen," Floyd advised.
"I see, I understand what you mean," Kanraku sighed and nodded. He wanted to fully heal the beast, but it could cause chaos; the consequences would be numerous, especially since this beast seemed hot-tempered. They needed to be careful.
"Professor, is this beast a mythological legend— a Dragon?" Jonathan mustered the courage to ask about dragons.
"I don't know, but based on its appearance, it does resemble a dragon, especially an eastern dragon. Look at these strong scales, blue whiskers, ferocious looks, and a serpentine body; it's very much like the legends. And it might be related to the Serpent Type I'm currently studying," Kanraku replied, excitement gleaming in his eyes.
"But professor, this looks like a dragon; is it okay to categorize him as a serpent?" Floyd subtly giving a hint about Gyarados.
"I think it's okay because, according to some legends, dragons originated from snakes, so they must belong to the serpent family. And look at its body; doesn't it resemble a serpent?" Kanraku defended his views.
"Yeah, it seems so," Floyd reluctantly agreed, pretending to go along before adding, "But it feels weird."
"What does?" inquired Kanraku.
"We saw this beast using water-type moves earlier; didn't you also see that? If we assume this creature is a serpent type as you think, then how can it use Water moves? Could it be both? Is it possible to have both?" Floyd hinted at the possibility of Dual Type to Kanraku.
BOOM
Kanraku stood up, surprise in his eyes; he contemplated something, then started to laugh, patting Floyd's shoulder. "Hahahaha, Floyd-san, you are indeed my lucky charm; it's great to have you! Two types should be possible; no wonder I was confused by the different energies colliding within their genes. I even noticed a low percentage of three, even four types, although it's a small percentage."
"Whoo," he slapped his face with both hands, "I need to recheck now; let's first treat the injuries of this creature. And where is Chansey?" He suddenly remembered Chansey and scanned his surroundings, finding a silhouette far away peeking at them.
Seeing this, Kanraku smiled and addressed the others: "By the way, I will introduce someone to all of you."
