Pokémon Court

Chapter 304: Supernova Terrance

Main Competition

Every contestant that enters the stage is given an introduction. Based on past performances in Pokémon Contests, Gayle obtained the title of “Master of Ice and Fire”, making it clear that he is an expert in coordinating Ice-type and Fire-type moves. He is a highly distinctive Coordinator.

There are five judges, each with 20 points to give. The sum of all the judges’ scores will determine the contestant’s final score.

“So beautiful! Contestant Gayle’s Froslass has perfectly combined Ice Shard and Will-O-Wisp, overcoming the usual conflict between ice and fire.”

When it was time for the main competition’s performance, the combination of various moves provided a visual feast for everyone.

“91 points! Contestant Gayle has obtained an excellent score of 91 from the judges!”

“That was truly remarkable—using Ominous Wind to perfectly combine Will-O-Wisp and Ice Shard. The contrasting feeling of both ice and fire truly showcases this contestant’s coordination skills. I remember his nickname, ‘Master of Ice and Fire,’ came from him often using Ice-type and Fire-type moves individually in his performance. This combination is likely a bold new attempt..”

With the first high score, Raoul Contesta was the first to commend it, followed by the other judges offering their comments.

As expected, a contestant who performed well in the preliminary round would not fail to shine in the main competition. Contestant Gayle’s 91 points completely outclassed the previous contestants.

“And now, let’s welcome the next contestant, Supernova Terrance from Fallarbor Town!!” Vivian announced.

“This is Contestant Terrance’s first time participating in the Grand Festival. So far, he has competed in only six Pokémon Contests, and in all six, he’s come out as the winner. A truly gifted rookie!”

“His unique performance style always brings surprises, and he is also tied for second place in the preliminary round with an impressive score of 96…”

When Vivian announced, the audience members who weren’t present at the preliminary round and hadn’t checked the results online were stunned.

Tied for second place?

“Brother Terrance… he’s gotten this strong?” The people at the Old Green House, although they knew Terrance had made it into the main competition, were unaware of his exact score in the preliminary round. Upon learning about it now, they felt a strange sense of unfamiliarity with the boy they thought they knew.

As Terrance slowly walked onto the stage, the kids from Old Green House and Grandma Arlan watched the calm expression on the young man’s face. Their hearts skipped a beat, and then they all fell silent, waiting for Terrance’s performance.

“He’s up!” The crowd that had been following Terrance’s progress perked up, as well Raoul Contesta, Sukizo, two Nurse Joys, and Wallace.

Terrance stepped onto the stage and looked up at the familiar faces. His heart stirred as he noticed Wallace giving him a faint smile. It seemed Wallace had recognized him back during the preliminary round.

“Well then, let the performance begin!” Vivian said with a smile.

Before Terrance stepped onto the stage, most of the contestants had been scoring in the 80s, with only Gayle reaching 91 points.

“I remember his score in the preliminary round was the same as mine…” Terrance thought, feeling a bit dazed. He then clenched Beautifly’s Poké Ball and threw it.

“Beautifly, use Attract to make entrance!”

Taking a deep breath, Terrance focused his gaze on Beautifly, who emerged from a red light, gently flapping its vibrant wings as it danced on the stage.

Due to its entrance using Attract, Beautifly’s colorful veins were faintly glowing. Translucent hearts, barely visible, hovered around its body, as if providing an accompaniment to Beautifly’s entrance.

“Using Attract to make entrance?” This move was already quite common in Pokémon Contests, but when Beautifly performed it, both the judges and the audience felt something unusual.

“I see… Beautifly didn’t fully execute the Attract move. Instead, it interrupted the move at the precise moment it was about to be performed. Although it gave up on the infatuation effect, the beauty of the move remained on Beautifly,” Wallace explained after pondering for a moment.

“If it’s just a simple entrance, the Attract move’s effect becomes secondary. This is a more restrained version of the Attract move—an impressive entrance.” The judges exchanged surprised glances. It seemed a new usage method had been developed of the Attract move.

“Look! Beautifly is using String Shot!”

Vivian had kept her eyes on the stage. Under Terrance’s command, Beautifly flew gracefully to the center of the stage, its delicate body dancing in the air. At the same time, a thin white thread shot from its proboscis, moving in sync with Beautifly’s dance.

“It doesn’t look like it’s just String Shot. Beautifly is also dancing. What’s it trying to do!?”

Quiver Dance!!

Only a few Trainers, skilled in using Quiver Dance, could recognize that Beautifly wasn’t just moving randomly—its movements were that of Quiver Dance!

Wallace raised his eyebrow in curiosity. These movements…

Indeed, as Beautifly danced, its speed increased, and at the same time, the threads it spat out became more and more numerous, creating a visual effect akin to a piece of white silk undulating like waves.

“This air current…”

Vivian soon noticed the strange movements of the threads, astonished as she spoke, “Look! Beautifly’s speed…it’s so fast! Zoom in, everyone can see it, right? A faint yet very real air current is guiding the path of the threads!”

The number of threads increased, but instead of becoming a chaotic tangled mess, they moved in perfect harmony, each thread following its own distinct trajectory, thanks to the mysterious air current.

Beautifly’s speed kept accelerating, making the changes in the air current even more pronounced. At this point, everyone realized that this wasn’t just an ordinary dance. There was no way such an impressive display could result from mere flying.

“How is this possible? Using String Shot while performing Quiver Dance already requires extreme control. How is Beautifly manipulating the air current like this?” Even Nurse Joy was left with her mouth agape. The technique’s difficulty was far too high.

However, if they knew that Beautifly had practiced Quiver Dance in the middle of a powerful sandstorm, amidst countless grains of sand that could have harmed it, and under violent air currents, they wouldn’t have worn such an expression. Instead, they would think it made perfect sense.

The technique was astounding, the difficulty was staggering, and Beautifly’s performance left all those familiar with the complexity of such moves in awe. But it wasn’t over yet. Just as the audience and judges were discussing the interplay between Quiver Dance, String Shot, and the air currents, the silk-like white waves suddenly burst apart, scattering in all directions and fiercely surrounding the entire stage.
