Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Move Mastery

After defeating the Scyther, there was no suspense left in the subsequent matches. Lian efficiently dispatched the remaining Pokemon without wasting any effort; it wasn't necessary, especially with his injuries, as he couldn't risk an unexpected setback.

He smoothly reached the finish line, securing his qualification for the next round. Then, Lian quietly underwent treatment to fully recover from his wounds.

Upon returning to the banks of Julian, Lian promptly lay down and fell asleep. Although his injuries had healed, with the competition concluded and his advancement secured, there was nothing else pressing to do except rest.

Time passed swiftly, and midnight arrived.

Lian entered the system space, eager to check his accumulated Combat Points over these few days. He hoped to enhance his speed ability further, preparing for the upcoming third round of competition.

To his surprise, he had leveled up, reaching level 17.

However, considering Lian's nightly training sessions with Kalia against opponents above their level, leveling up was not entirely unexpected.

Charmeleon

Species: Fire-type

Gender: Male

Level: Lv.17

Ability: Blaze (Switchable) / Solar Power

Moves: Growl, Scratch, Ember (20/30), Smokescreen, Dragon Breath (21/30), Dragon Rage (20/30), Swift, Hidden Power (Rock) (20/30)/ Grass..., Fire Fang (20/30)

Ability Stats: Stamina 467, Attack 427, Defense 407, Special Attack 618, Special Defense 431, Speed 618

After leveling up, both Lian's speed and special attack ability stats reached 618. Had he possessed this speed during the day, he likely would have easily outpaced Scyther without needing to engage it in battle.

"Still too slow."

The second round eliminated any fluke mentality Lian might have harbored. Knowing that Scyther was at least level 25, it was unrealistic to expect Swellow to be below level 25 as well.

Even with his current speed, Lian still couldn't match Swellow's agility, let alone Ninjask's.

Lian roughly calculated that if Swellow were level 25, it would have over 650 speed ability points, while Ninjask was even more terrifying, boasting above 800 speed ability points.

Of course, due to Nincada's low combat effectiveness before evolving into Ninjask, its growth rate is slow, but it must still be at least level 20 or higher, significantly faster than Lian's current speed.

The only solution would be to defeat either Ninjask or Swellow, ensuring no Pokemon could outpace him. Even if there were any exceptions, they wouldn't pose as significant a threat as these two.

Both Swellow and Ninjask are formidable Pokemon; although their base stats might not surpass Scyther's, their battle prowess is undeniably strong.

Should I spend some Combat Points to enhance move proficiency?

After considering, Lian decided to improve his move proficiency, increasing his chances of success further.

Today's combat rating earned him around six hundred Combat Points, slightly less than anticipated, likely due to Yanma's lower level.

Total Combat Points: 2540

So far, Lian had accumulated a total of 2,540 Combat Points over these few days. As his level increased and he defeated higher-level Pokémon, earning Combat Points became progressively easier.

However, two thousand plus Combat Points were still insufficient. Based on his estimates, to upgrade his Speed ability value to its maximum limit at +50, reaching a total of 130 Speed points, would require at least eight thousand Combat Points - not achievable within just a few short days.

Unfortunately, his battle with the Scyther wasn't recorded; otherwise, Lian would have been eager to examine its detailed statistics.

Next, Lian looked at the moves column, contemplating which move's proficiency should be enhanced. After all, upgrading a move to its maximum required at least five hundred Combat Points, which was no small amount.

He had a hunch that reaching the proficiency limit might trigger a significant transformation, potentially increasing power or greatly improving release speed.

Both Swellow and Ninjask were flying-type Pokémon, making Hidden Power (Rock) the most effective move against them. However, using Hidden Power (Rock) posed challenges, leaving Lian conflicted. Other moves lacked strong effectiveness against flying types: Fire Fang necessitated close proximity, while Ember's power was too weak.

"Wait, Hidden Power isn't limited to just one attribute." Lian smacked his forehead, realizing he could simply avoid using Hidden Power (Rock) and instead opt for Hidden Power (Electric) or Hidden Power (Ice). This way, he would still deal significant damage to flying-type Pokémon.

Moreover, when challenging gyms or battling other Trainers, employing Hidden Power (Rock) wouldn't raise suspicions anymore.

However, utilizing Hidden Powers of different attributes would reveal to Kalia that he possesses two types of Hidden Power abilities, which would undoubtedly astonish her. After all, no Pokémon has ever been known to use more than one type of Hidden Power simultaneously.

"Well, let's worry about that later; first things first."

Lian decided not to overthink it and spent 100 Combat Points to unlock Hidden Power (Ice). He chose this primarily because Electric-type moves have limited effectiveness, making Hidden Power (Ice) a better investment in terms of versatility.

He couldn't forget that numerous powerful Pokémon are quadruple weak against Ice-type attacks, resulting in significantly increased damage from such moves.

After unlocking Hidden Power (Ice), he gritted his teeth and spent another 600 Combat Points to raise its proficiency to 30, reaching the system-imposed maximum limit.

The number behind Hidden Power (Ice) disappeared, replaced by the word "Limit," similar to how ability values were displayed.

With 1,840 Combat Points remaining, Lian decided to continue upgrading his moves. Since he had never used Hidden Power (Ice) before, it was uncertain what specific changes would occur upon reaching the proficiency limit.

Therefore, Lian needed to enhance a commonly used move first, to understand the exact transformations at maximum proficiency.

"Let's upgrade Dragon Breath," he thought after some consideration. There wasn't any particular reason; he simply wanted to improve this move.

By consuming 450 Combat Points, Dragon Breath reached its peak state, leaving him with just over one thousand three hundred points.

Next, Lian turned his attention to Abilities. A single Pokemon can only have one Ability, and the system adheres to this rule. Currently, between Blaze and Solar Power, he could choose only one as his primary Ability.

After pondering, Lian switched from Blaze to Solar Power, setting Solar Power as the primary Ability followed by Blaze.

Although unsure of its effectiveness, given that it's currently a scorching summer, most days are extremely hot. He felt Solar Power might likely trigger under these conditions.

Fortunately, even on sunny days, the potency of Ice-type moves remains unaffected. In games too, Sunny Day primarily weakens Water-type moves, not Ice-type ones.

Having completed these adjustments, Lian exited the System space. Now, it was time to observe the specific changes in his moves.
