Chapter 56: Chapter 56: A Fortuitous Encounter
After defeating the Graveler, Bellossom fully embarked on its journey to level up.
As they traveled, Bellossom charged into every battle against similarly leveled Pokémon, wielding Leaf Blade with the ferocity of a battle-hardened Valkyrie.
Particularly after mastering Six Powers (Rokushiki), Bellossom became enamored with Leaf Blade, refining the move to an exceptional level of proficiency.
In contrast, other moves were rarely used, whether Bellossom fought independently or under Ron's guidance. This was intentional on Ron's part.
A Pokémon's energy is finite, yet the array of moves it can learn is vast.
Even moves of different types could theoretically be learned through extensive use of Technical Machines (TMs). However, the effectiveness of such moves often left much to be desired.
Thus, most trainers encourage their Pokémon to specialize in a select few moves to build a cohesive combat strategy, with other moves playing a supportive role to adapt to different situations and opponents.
For instance, Machoke followed a power-oriented path, often relying on close-range physical moves that fully showcased its strength.
Moves like Karate Chop had various secondary effects, which complemented its combat style. Combined with its use of Leer, Machoke became a force to be reckoned with, often leaving opponents unable to recover.
Persian, on the other hand, adopted a more assassin-like approach. Its skill set focused on enhancing its stealth and killing precision, with Hypnosis to render enemies helpless before delivering the finishing blow.
As for Bellossom, Ron settled on a swordsman's path after observing its passion and skill for Leaf Blade.
The core of Bellossom's strategy revolved around Leaf Blade, with other moves tailored to amplify its swordsmanship.
For example, Magical Leaf, under Bellossom's precise control, could be used for ranged attacks or disruption, enhancing its versatility in combat.
Ron even entertained the idea of seeking out swordsmanship masters to train Bellossom further.
After all, in this world, swordsmanship wasn't exactly uncommon.
If that plan failed, Ron could always teach Bellossom techniques he'd seen in One Piece. Who knows? It might spark some inspiration.
With Bellossom's path defined, Ron deliberately emphasized training Leaf Blade as the primary move.
However, without a proper swordsmanship master available, Ron focused on foundational training for now—such as practicing slashes and incorporating localized weight training—to avoid stunting Bellossom's growth.
Before long, Bellossom effortlessly defeated its opponent, leaving the fainted Pokémon for Ron to restore with Fighting Aura.
After this battle, Bellossom was only one fight away from leveling up, meaning Ron was halfway to achieving his goal of coming to Mt. Moon.
Unfortunately, Ron still hadn't found a Moon Stone or a Fossil.
Along the way, Ron scrutinized every rock he came across, comparing them meticulously to the data in his Pokédex.
He reasoned that his diligence would surely pay off—after all, effort should be rewarded, right?
But perhaps he hadn't worked hard enough, as his efforts yielded no valuable finds.
By this point, Ron began to suspect that the rumors of finding Fossils or Moon Stones on Mt. Moon might be a local gimmick to boost tourism.
Just as Ron was about to give up and leave after Bellossom leveled up, a surprising discovery halted him—a large gathering of Geodude and Graveler.
On an open mountainside, over a dozen Graveler and several dozen Geodude congregated.
Not far from their resting cave lay an unusual-looking stone, its distinct coloration setting it apart.
To be certain, Ron used his Pokédex to compare it with recorded images.
After careful examination, Ron confirmed it was indeed a Fossil—one of the highly valuable types, worth an astounding 1,000 contribution points.
Ron's eyes lit up with excitement.
"Persian," he said, pointing toward the Fossil, "this will be tricky. Use Hypnosis to neutralize any Graveler or Geodude that might notice you. Your priority is to sneak into the cave and search for more stones like this. If that's not possible, just bring me the one outside."
After briefing Persian on its task, Ron settled in to wait.
Approaching the Graveler clan, Persian crouched low and observed the Pokémon's movements carefully.
If the goal were merely to snatch the stone outside, Persian was confident it could grab it before anyone noticed.
However, entering the cave and scouting its interior required more time, which increased the risk of being surrounded. If that happened, Persian's speed advantage would be neutralized, forcing it into a defensive stance until Machoke and the others could break through from outside.
Given these risks, Persian chose not to act hastily unless absolutely certain of success.
Ron, understanding the difficulty of the task, didn't rush Persian. The outcome would depend on its judgment.
Time passed slowly. After an hour of waiting, the Graveler and Geodude began to stir, their activity increasing.
Soon, they would likely retreat into the cave to rest, forcing Persian to abandon the mission.
Scanning the area one last time, Persian used Shave (Soru) to retreat to its original position.
