Chapter 16
Chapter 16 Inexplicable Attachment
“What do I think about those young people who love to play games? Well, unfortunately, I happen to be one of them. I think I can only remain calmly seated and quietly look at you,” thought Zheng Xiaoguang.
The next moment, she thought of the date tips that Yang Sisi had given her before and said solemnly, “Well, I think it’s wrong for them to waste their time on video games. They should focus on their studies or their careers. In my eyes, these young people are throwing their lives away. I’ll never become one of them!”
While saying this, she could not help but sigh secretly, “Oh, this is so ridiculous. I’m definitely one of them. Why do I have to belittle myself like that?”
Upon hearing Zheng Xiaoguang’s reply, Tong Xiangyang smiled slightly without saying a word.
After that, they spent the rest of their dinner time in silence. After the dinner, Tong Xiangyang politely asked Zheng Xiaoguang for her contact information and then drove her home.
The moment she reached home, she was immediately surrounded by her parents, who were eager to know everything about her date.
“Uhm, he asked me for my number, and I gave it to him,” Zheng Xiaoguang simply replied.
When she was about to run away, her mother grabbed her and said, “Don’t go back into your room so fast. Tell me more about him. What does he look like? How tall is he? I heard that he has bought a car for himself. Is that true?”
Zheng Xiaoguang had no choice but to slump on the sofa and tell her mother everything about her date. She assured her mother that she had behaved in a way that fully met her requirements and had not mentioned anything about games throughout the date.
After hearing that, her mother concluded. “Well, according to your description, that young man is a nice and polite person. He asked for your number. That means he thinks that you’re alright. You should try to spend more time together with him.”
Zheng Xiaoguang was rendered speechless. The next moment, she forced herself to promise her mother by saying, “Um, if he invites me to go out with him again, I’ll let you know.”
That being said, she was well aware that Tong Xiangyang did not seem to be interested in asking her out again. She thought, “Well, he asked me for my number, more out of politeness. He probably just didn’t want to embarrass me. It’s hard to tell whether he’ll call me in the future.
“Anyway, I did everything as my mum and Yang Sisi requested. They can’t blame me, if that Tong Xiangyang doesn’t contact me again.”
After escaping the “clutches” of her mother, Zheng Xiaoguang wearily walked into her room. She checked the current time. It was just half past eight. As such, she opened her computer and logged onto her game.
She checked her friend list first only to find out that most of her friends were not online, including her husband Bluegreen-Clad. She felt somewhat disappointed. She immediately exited the game and turned off the computer.
She stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window in her room. She looked at the bright shiny lights and the fast moving cars outside, while feeling somewhat sad.
She turned on her cellphone, put on her earphones, and tap on the screen to play the song “Snow”.
At times like this, she would think of that person and wonder, “If he had never betrayed me, I would’ve probably gotten married to him and even had a child now. If I was married now, my parents would not have to worry so much about me. Maybe their hair would not turn gray so fast.”
In front of her parents, she always behaved as if she cared nothing about her love life. Only when she was alone, she would admit to herself that she did feel lonely sometimes.
She perfectly understood why her parents always dissuaded her from playing games too often, but she really needed to use these games to get rid of her loneliness. Most of her friends were married now and had families to take care of. They seemed to enjoy their lives and seldom hung out with her nowadays, although they often said that they were envious of her because she was single and still had enough time to play.
Suddenly, her cellphone rang, and she clicked a button on her earphones to receive it without thinking too much. The next moment, she heard Bluegreen-Clad’s voice. “Hey, honey. Why did you log off shortly after logging onto the game? Is your Internet down again?”
Zheng Xiaoguang chuckled and asked, “How do you know that when you weren’t online?”
Bluegreen-Clad answered her with another question, “Honey, did you log off because I was not online?”
“… Don’t flatter yourself!” Zheng Xiaoguang refused to admit it.
Bluegreen-Clad did not seem to mind it at all and said, “Well, I’ll stop teasing you. There’s a service you can choose in the game system. If you choose it, a text message will be sent to your cellphone to inform you that your friend so-and-so logs onto the game when you’re offline. Do you know that? I chose it, so when you logged on, I received a message from the game company.”
Zheng Xiaoguang sneered and said, “So were you waiting for me?”
To her surprise, Bluegreen-Clad said, “Yes.”
Upon hearing that, she felt a warm blush rise to her cheeks and blurted out, “Do you often flirt with girls you meet in games?”
After a moment of silence, Bluegreen-Clad replied assertively, “No, never.”
Zheng Xiaoguang was afraid that she had sounded a little offensive just now, so she tried to ease the situation by saying, “Alright, alright, I was kidding. You’re a god-like player of our zone. You never need to hit on any girl. The girls will hit on you, just like that Venus Will Cry…”
“So honey, are you jealous?” Bluegreen-Clad said somewhat teasingly.
Zheng Xiaoguang coughed awkwardly and said, “Come on, I’m your legitimate wife in the game. Why do I have to be jealous of them? Besides, maybe you’re still 20 or 21, but I’m 26, no 27 now. I’m not so childish as you guys.”
Suddenly, Bluegreen-Clad interjected, “I’m 28 now. Honey, it’s okay to be jealous of your rivals.”
“What? Wait, Bluegreen-Clad. Are you sure that you’ve never flirted with a girl before?”
