In between the training sessions, Alexa started working on the other tasks.
After reading through all the requests, she began to see the problem. The Shifters were real people, with real lives, but most of the requestors didn’t see them that way. Firstly, some of the ‘requests’ were just ridiculous. To ask a volunteer to go through some of the most painful medical procedures known just to satisfy some scientist’s curiosity just wasn’t going to happen.
How was medical researched handled at the moment? Three hours later, that rabbit hole had been explored.
A draft action plan had been created and submitted to Joey for initial approval. The national ethics committee needs to state that the standards currently for research into humans applies to all paranormals, whether in human or animal form. Then the national health council needs to adopt it. Anyone applying for access to a paranormal for research then had to acknowledge they are complying with those standards. The supernatural councils should set up a clearing house for those requests to be submitted to, allowing the correct people to be informed that there is an opportunity to be involved in research. The clearing house should have a senior shifter, a senior magi. Plus representatives from the other councils, as they decide to reveal themselves, and a senior medical expert to vet the requests. Actually, that reminded her, and a senior veterinarian expert.
Once Joey approved it, the action plan could go off to the two councils and medical experts for review.
She realised she was being too naive with this, but she felt she should start naive and work towards cynical, rather than the other way around.
Back to training!

A day later, Alexa took another break from study and started back on her tasks. Joey hadn’t got back to her yet, so she decided to start on the other task. Looking up the task, she discovered her contact was Ben Ito. She looked him up on her communications software and dialled his extension.
“Ito.”
“Good afternoon, Sergeant Ito. This is Constable Smirn from the Paranormal Group. I’ve been tasked with working with you about integration of Shifters into the AFP?”
“This is all some joke, isn’t it?”
“No sir, it’s quite real.”
“So, have you ever seen any of these so-called shifters yourself?
“Yes, sir. A few dozen. I’m one myself.”
“You’re one? You turn into a wolf?”
“No, sir, a wedge-tailed eagle.”
“I’m having a hard time believing all this.”
“Yes, sir. Do you have a couple of hours or so? I’d like to come to your office and sketch out where we move from here.”
“Can I meet you at our training base?”
“Sure, 14:00 OK?”
“See you then.”
Alexa booked a car, marked herself as out of office and left for the training base. She had enough time for her to stop at one of her favourite pasta bars for lunch. She expected to have to demonstrate her eagle, and that was better done on a full stomach.
