Chapter 53: Arthur Pendragon
After killing all the Quagoa, Arthur turned to the youngest girl, who was injured heavily and bleeding from a bucket.
Under the intense stare of Demiurge and the rest of the adventure, Arthur walked up to the girl.
There was a small smell of urine near her, Maybe she wet herself in the situation where she thought her life was gone.
"You seem to be hurt," Arthur said in a low voice, But he was sweet enough to cause a blush on the wizard of the party.
As a professional actor and master of disguise, Arthur had long since trained up his ability to ignore the surroundings
Arthur, who pretended not to notice, opened his inventory and withdrew a backpack from it. Although it was called an Infinite Backpack, it could only hold up to five hundred kilos of items.
YGGDRASIL players commonly put their immediate-use items into this bag, because the items within the bag could be assigned to hotkeys in the game interface.
After digging through several of these Backpacks, he found a small phial containing a green potion.
It was a Healing Potion, normally a healing potion is red in colour but because this is a potion made by his {Demon Golem} avatar its colour has been modified to green.
This potion could restore fifty HP, and most of his guildmates in YGGDRASIL frequently used it. However, Arthur as he is now had no need for this item at all as it couldn't even restore a quarter of Arthur's main form—Doppelganger—HP.
"Drink it."
Arthur offered the green potion. The girl's face was pale but she reached out her hand and slipped it down in one go. It would seem that the minor wounds on her were easily remedied by a low-tier healing potion.
—Seeing that blonde girl sipping the potion without even asking a question, Arthur thought:
'Could it be that being instantly accepted is a privilege of the beautiful? Or I am weird to think, they would ask me what the green potion was?'
Just as a baffled expression dawned on Arthur's face, a dulcet voice said:
"Thank you for helping us fend off those damned Demi-humans. And for healing one Swordsman. If you have come any late we are going to be killed."
"Think nothing of it. I couldn't just walk away after seeing my fellow brethren were bullied by some moles." Arthur said heroically. If Touch Me was here then he would scream that Arthur was cooking something sinister.
"May we know the name of our saviour?" The blonde young girl asked after getting up. Even though most of her injuries were healed by potion, which Arthur gave, she was still not able to walk on her own. So she was supported by the bald monk.
Arthur almost responded by reflex, but in the end, he did not state his name.
The name 'Ancient One' was that of the guild master of the Ainz Ooal Gown—the name 'Ancient One' is cool but currently what he needs is a name that can blend in with human society, also a name that can exhibit the same coolness as 'Ancient One'.
Then what should he call himself now? What was the name of the last man who remained in the Great Tomb of Nazarick? A name that will be engraved on the hearts of people from the new world.
—Ah, that's it.
"...My name is Arthur Pendragon."
[Seriously, Sir, That's the best you can do. I am disappointed to know that after all your intense thoughts, what you come up with is 'Arthur Pendragon'. If you asked me then I would give a better name.] Friday said in her usual monotone.
Hearing all the names the adventures tensed up for a moment. And all their previous relaxed mood vanished in an instant. Even their body language took 180 degrees.
"Arthur Pendragon, So you are a Noble? Forgive me, If I said anything disrespectful. My name is Roland and I am the leader of this party—Dark Blades."
"I once again thank you for your support. That said, I would like to know what would be the reward you expect from us." Roland said as others kept their mouth closed.
"100 gold coins is the maximum we can offer, If you want anything other than gold coins, please tell us—even though we are not sure if we are able to complete your request."
"No, I am certain that a great man like yourself could not possibly be content with that sum. Perhaps if everyone in our party gathered their savings, we might be able to produce sufficient cash to satisfy Arthur-sama. However... If we gave you our supplies, our lives would be very difficult. Although it pains me to have to ask a favour of our saviour, perhaps... could we... could we pay by installments?"
Hm? Isn't this a good chance?
It felt like he had been lost in a dense forest, and then his field of view suddenly expanded before him. Arthur pretended to think about it, and then all he could do was pray it all worked out. After a few seconds, Arthur finally gave his reply.
"I understand. The payment will not be needed."
"Eh!? But... but why?"
The Roland and rest of the party stared at Arthur, their eyes wide and their tongues tied. Arthur raised his hand, indicating that he still had something to say. He had to consider what he could and could not reveal, and it was quite troublesome. He did not know if he could guide them into telling him what he wanted, but he had no choice but to try.
"Actually, it would be really helpful, if you knew anything about the surrounding Kingdom. As you might have guessed I am not from around here."
Of course, Arthur's real objective was to obtain information—not for him but to convince Nazarick—and not money. However, directly asking for information would be strange.
Nobody would be so nice as to say "I don't want anything." One could say that nothing was more expensive than being free of charge.
Someone who saved another's life was entitled to a reward for their hard work. Yet, if the saviour said they did not want a reward, anyone would find that strange.
Then, the next best thing was to make the other side feel that they had paid in some way, even if it was in an intangible form.
In other words, the best solution to the present situation was to allay their suspicions by having them trade information with Arthur. That would put them at ease.
—Thinking about it, Arthur found himself strange as he had not done something tiresome previously but now he was doing it almost naturally.
Was he being too cautious about this? Well, he was never serious in the game but now that the game has become a reality he has to take things seriously. While Arthur is ignorant to many things he is not a fool. And he knows that there is no takeback as this is not a game anymore, If a mistake is made then he has to pay the price with interest.
For now, Arthur was stronger than everyone in this world. However, that did not guarantee that he will remain stronger than everyone in this world—which is very unlikely to happen—
—After all, Strength and weakness were two sides of the same coin.
Hearing Arthur's request Roland didn't think much as he knew when Young Nobles reached a certain age, other than the eldest son—in some cases, even the eldest son is allowed—the rest of the children are given the option to explore the world and earn experience.
Seeing that Arthur also has a servant with him, Roland concluded that he must be from a prestigious Family.
So without further ado, Roland started to explain the territory.
The information that Dark Blade shared was similar to what Friday told him, So Arthur didn't find that very helpful but that was not the case for Demiurge, who was listening to them very carefully so as not to miss a single detail.
