Chapter 8: Hospital
"The tests... they aren't looking good," The doctor replied, with a grim look.
Arthur clenched his fists, suppressing the rage he was feeling and the sadness.
The doctor hesitated for a moment, his face softening slightly.
"It's still too early to say for sure, but there are indicators that suggest the need for immediate treatment for her."
"The next tests will help us confirm if it's cancer or something else. However, I can't tell you it isn't. Be prepared for the worst."
Arthur's mind raced as he processed the information.
"What do I need to do?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
The doctor gave him a sympathetic look.
"First, make sure you're prepared financially for the worst."
"Cancer treatments are costly. But as I said, that's the worst outcome. Hopefully it isn't."
Arthur nodded numbly, his emotions a storm inside him.
'I need to go back to the other world, I need to amass more power, more money!' He thought as he looked at his sister.
"Alright, how much will it cost to place her in intensive care in her own room?" He asked as he looked at the doctor.
"hm?" The doctor asked not expecting Arthur to say that.
"Well, it will cost around $200 a day, including food of course." He replied.
Arthur nodded and said.
"Alright, can you placer her in there? Also, am I allowed to sleep in the room with her?" He asked.
"Yes, we can place her In there. However, you will have to pay a deposit of 1 day and payment for a day."
"Regarding whether you can stay or not. I'm afraid, you cannot with the package of $200. If you want to stay in there, you would need to pay for the $500 package," He added.
Arthur nodded his head.
"Alright, we will proceed with the $200 room. Here you go," He said, as he handed him the card once more.
[Ding! The payment was successful! $400 has been deducted.]
"Alright, I will ask the nurses to move her there, you can stay with her until 8 pm." He said as he glanced at the time.
Arthur nodded and got up from his seat.
"Alright," He said, his voice carrying no emotion.
As Arthur got up from his seat, the doctor looked at his hand and a flicker of emotion appeared in his mind.
'He's a beta tester?' He thought but didn't voice it out.
After moving with his sister to the room, he stayed with her until it reached 8 pm.
Although she was asleep, he still found peace in staying with her.
He stayed with her for around 2 hours before the time hit 8 pm, a nurse came to Arthur.
"Sir, the time is u-"
"I understand," Arthur whispered, cutting her off.
Glancing at Charlotte for the final time, he walked towards her bed, kissed her forehead then left with the nurse.
As he left the hospital, the cold breeze struck him.
'Great, I am far from our spot and it's so cold, it couldn't get worse,' He thought.
But life seemed to be playing games with him as it immediately started raining.
"Great." He muttered, as his body started getting soaked by the rain.
After taking shelter in a small resting area in a park, he entered the game.
Spawning in the place he left, he found Hank and Neko waiting for him.
He decided to head to the alchemist shop to buy a few Health potions, he didn't have much time to waste waiting to recover, so he decided to buy a health potion to save time.
As he arrived at the alchemist store, he found that someone was standing infront of the store, unsure if he was waiting or not, he asked.
"Are you waiting to buy?" Arthur asked as he glanced at the woman in front of him.
"Oh no, you can go ahead. I'm just checking what potion should i buy, so you can go first," She said, as she moved out of the way.
"Alright," Arthur continued, arriving in front of the counter.
"Hello adventurer, do you want to buy anything?"
"We have all kinds of potions, we have Mana potions, Health potions, poison and many more!" She exclaimed.
"Hi, I would like to buy 1 health potion of common rank." He said as he glanced at the items they had on display.
He would have bought the uncommon health potion, but unfortunately, potions started from the common rank.
"That will be 3 silver coins," The young man, said as he placed the potion on the table waiting for Arthur to pay.
After paying up, the woman's face beamed in joy as she looked at Arthur.
"Congratulations sir! You are our 100th customer!"
"You have won five free health potions!" She said, as she quickly grabbed the potions and placed them on the desk.
"Huh?" Arthur was confused at the beginning, then his face showed shock.
"Me?" He asked one final time, as he pointed towards himself whilst looking around.
"Yes sir, you!" She said, placing the items in front of him.
"Thanks, I guess?"
The woman who gave Arthur her place a minute earlier, looked at him in shock. Her face twisted in a gloomy look.
"That was mine, give it to me!" She said as she tried to take the potions away.
Arthur was too quick for her, placing them in his inventory. He had a place for them because of the backpacks he had.
Looking at her with a frown, he said.
"What do you mean it's yours? She clearly said it's mine,"
The woman looked at him with a hideous look covering her face.
"I know she did, I'm not deaf. But, I was the one who gave you the spot. So you should at least give me some, or are you this ungrateful you little brat," She spat out.
"I don't owe you shit, now fuck off," He said, as he left the store without looking back at her.
