Chapter 86
Maho’s room still looked charming and cute.
Well… aside from a few more dolls and a signature from Moon Chang-sik on one wall, it wasn’t much different from last time.
“Come in.”
“Thank you.”
As I stepped inside, I spotted a computer in the midst of a broadcast.
Hmm, the chat window is really buzzing.
It’s the same chaos whenever a broadcaster steps away from their stream.
“Do the viewers know I’m here?”
“They were told someone was coming, but I didn’t say it was you.”
“Well, I guess I’ll let them know right away.”
There’s no point in stretching this out; I casually tossed my coat aside and headed for the computer… but I ended up heading straight to the bathroom.
Since I’ve been out and about today, it’s probably best to wash my hands and face, right?
After returning and sitting in the broadcast chair, Maho looked at me as if baffled.
“If you sit there, where am I supposed to sit?”
“But I’m the guest, you know?”
“Guest? More like a nuisance!”
Saying that, Maho yanked me out from in front of the computer.
What kind of strength is this… or is it just to be expected given her build? Maho, displaying the strength of an actual human being, effortlessly plopped my weak body onto the bed.
“Just stay there.”
“Okay….”
In the end, I succumbed to the difference in strength and sat quietly on the bed.
“Are you turning on the microphone now?”
“I don’t mind.”
Maho’s room is arranged such that the bed and desk are really close together. Just because I’m sitting here doesn’t mean my voice won’t reach the microphone.
So, I watched Maho conduct her broadcast for a while, and the chat was definitely calm.
It feels somehow relaxed, just like Maho.
Are the viewers following the broadcaster’s lead?
No way, if that were true, what would that make me?
Hmm… I decided to think about the correlation between viewer tendencies and broadcaster styles later; for now, I should start talking.
“When are you going to introduce me, sis?”
“Oh, no, Miro! Don’t just blurt that out! I was going to surprise them!”
“Delaying won’t do any good~”
I said that and leaned forward to read the chat messages.
– Hahaha
– Wait, is Miro here?
– The youngest has arrived!
– She just popped up, lol.
Wow, there are no swear words in the chat?
This is a whole different vibe.
Well, once my viewers start showing up one by one, this mood will probably change.
“Hello, I’m Miro.”
– Hi!
– Nice to meet you!
– Miro!
– Are you two close?
“Close? All of us members from the Celestial Realm are close.”
Even if we’re not best friends, we’re way closer than a regular business relationship, I’d say.
In reality, we hardly meet in person, so there is some limit to our familiarity.
– How did you get here?
– Are you broadcasting today?
– Why is she here?
It hasn’t even been that long since I arrived, and I can already see a few of my viewers popping up.
Well, it’s not like Miro fans don’t watch other broadcasts, so once they heard my voice in Maho’s room, they probably decided to jump in.
“Um, actually, I came for an unexpected visit because I had some concerns, but it turns out my sister is broadcasting.”
– You have concerns?
– Is it about a guy?
Concerns about a guy?
I don’t think there will ever come a day when I have those kinds of worries.
Hmm… But the calm chat is making me a little uncomfortable.
Should I heat things up just a tad?
“If it’s about a guy, what would you do?”
“Oh, Miro!”
– ???
– Me
– WHAT?
“Should I just spill it since it’s not my show?”
“What?!”
“Mmm! Mmm-mmm!”
It was a playful comment, but as Maho immediately put her hand over my mouth, I couldn’t say any more.
– Crazy girl!
– Wow, it’s not even your show.
– She’s for real, though.
Well… it seems like the viewers aren’t buying it either.
I mean, who’s going to talk about guy problems on a broadcast?
Especially not as a VTuber.
“Actually, that’s not true; I just came because I had a brief concern regarding work.”
– Huh?
– Work? Is it related to broadcasting?
– Can you even talk about that on air?
“It’s not something I’m obliged to share, but it’s somewhat related to broadcasting.”
It’s not internet broadcasting, but it is actual filming, after all.
It will be screened in theaters, but won’t it eventually be re-broadcast on TV?
– Ooh…
– Is something big coming?
– Does it involve dancing?
Well, it’s only natural that viewers would think along those lines, but sadly, it’s not the case.
“No, it’s unrelated to you guys. Please don’t probe too much.”
– ???
– It’s weird.
– Then why mention it?
“Ah, I’m sorry. I only answered because you asked, but I didn’t expect you to be this curious.”
– Do you really want to die?
– You should have kept it to yourself.
– Hold your breath until she reveals it.
The chat is starting to get wild as my viewers, who were hiding, are coming out of their shells.
It feels like I’m back home.
Yes, this is how my viewers should be…
“Ah! Miro, get away from there!”
But eventually, after reading the chat, Maho’s horror led me to the corner of the bed.
“I can’t believe… they’re mad at you.”
“Hahaha, viewers… want a rein on things?”
“Where in the world did that come from?”
“Just… do this.”
Saying that, she pulled out a VR device from the shelf next to the bed.
“What’s that for?”
“How about Beat Saber?”
I haven’t exercised today. Since I am here, I suggested it, but Maho’s expression crumpled instantly.
“Ew, no way.”
I didn’t think she would reject it so bluntly… is it really that bad?
“You don’t have stamina like me anyway.”
“I’m not worse than you! Have you jumped rope lately?”
Hmm… jumping rope.
Come to think of it, I did a little yesterday and then swiped the VR gear.
“Well… no. I’m going to build my stamina with Beat Saber.”
“Stop saying ridiculous things and put that down and come over here.”
“Huh?”
You just kicked me out, but now you want me back? What’s going on?
“Someone asked in the chat if we could do an Ideal Type World Cup, so I thought I’d give it a try.”
“Oh….”
Isn’t that my main content for the broadcast?
I’m confident in that.
“What is it?”
“Exercise.”
“Excuse me?”
“Let’s debate what the best exercise is.”
…Exercise?
Well, I could care less, but I thought Maho didn’t work out either.
But what kind of debate could we possibly have?
“It’s said that discussions between non-experts can be interesting.”
That may be true…
“Let’s just get on with it.”
“Sure….”
Thus began the Exercise World Cup… and it was fun in its own way.
It may have been much like a chaotic free-for-all, though.
At the end of the day, if the broadcasters had fun and the viewers were clamoring, isn’t that a successful broadcast?
Anyway, after finishing the broadcast…
“So, what could our Kim Soo-hyun’s concern possibly be?”
“Um… well…”
Now was the time to reveal my concerns.
I explained roughly about meeting Moon Chang-sik again at the Composer’s Workshop where I went for work and receiving an offer for a minor role in his movie.
“Wait… you met Moon Chang-sik again? And now you’ve gotten a minor role offer for the movie?”
“Yes, ah, but remember, the movie must stay confidential.”
“That’s… a surprising concern I wouldn’t have imagined.”
Yeah, I wouldn’t have thought about it either as yesterday’s me.
“Well… um…”
Maho closed her eyes and pondered as if it were her own problem before finally speaking.
“If it were me… I probably wouldn’t take it.”
“Oh… why’s that?”
Even though we expressed the same concern, Maho’s viewpoint differed completely from Hyeon-su’s—could it be environmental differences? Or personality?
“I’m really happy with where I am right now… and I’m not that active of a person.”
As expected… she does share some traits with Kim Soo-hyun. Yes, being content with the current moment can also be considered a virtue. It’s something I thought too, after all.
“As it’s just my opinion, Soo-hyun, take it as a reference. From what I see, you’d probably do well at it.”
“Me?”
Doing well, huh… It surely doesn’t seem like it would be that tough. After all, my job involves acting like a clown in front of thousands of people every day…
The role I heard about didn’t seem all that hard either.
“Well, excluding appearance, you know how to do a lot of different things, right? Plus, adding acting doesn’t seem weird at all, and it’s a minor role, too, which means you’d only have to film once or twice, right?”
“That’s right. Truth be told, I feel like I’m making a huge deal out of something so trivial. It’s just a couple of shots.”
If it feels too uncomfortable, I could just say I won’t do it.
Yet here I am, going around seeking advice on it… even I think it’s a little spineless.
“But if it’s really bothering you, how about going to check it out?”
“Eh?”
“Just go to the filming location, see how the actors work, and if you feel like, ‘Oh, I want to give that a try,’ then do it, otherwise just head back.”
“Is that really possible?”
Is there such a thing as just dropping by a filming location?
“It’s not just anyone, but it’s a recommendation from Moon Chang-sik. You should be able to manage that, right?”
Maho said, glancing at my face.
“And besides, the director probably won’t get mad at you, right? Have you seen anyone get mad at you, among the opposite gender?”
Getting annoyed by the opposite gender?
I feel like there might have been something like that during my time as a guy… but in the memories of Kim Soo-hyun… um…
“No, none?”
“Yep. But just ask, it’s fine to ask.”
Then… should I just ask?
Also, checking out the filming location to see the ambiance might be a really good idea.
Well, provided I get permission.
That evening.
After returning home, I called Moon Chang-sik.
He’s a busy person, so I even thought about calling back the next day if he didn’t pick up, but luckily he answered right away.
[Hello?]
“Ah yes, this is Soo-hyun.”
[Ah, have you thought a bit about it?]
Well, it’s a little awkward to call back so soon after saying I’d think it over for a day… but still, it’s better to tell him in advance.
“Um, I was wondering, can I visit the filming location to seriously think it over?”
After I spoke, I felt unsure, but surprisingly, Moon Chang-sik answered calmly.
[Yes, I’ll mention it to the director.]
“Uh… would it be a problem? Since it’s a minor role and I’m just observing….”
Is it okay to just accept it this swiftly? From my position, it feels a bit odd—it’s just a minor role, after all. If they offer me a chance, there should be countless others available, right?
[It won’t be a problem.]
“Is that so?”
[Yes, I’m not joking, suggesting it to you is one thing, but for you, Soo-hyun, the director will be okay with it too.]
“Oh….”
That’s a relief.
I can’t shake the feeling of imposing on them, but I still want to make a careful choice.
[It’s really not a nuisance, so don’t worry. Our director is a fantastic chef.]
“Huh?”
A chef? What does that mean? Is that some industry slang?
[Eh, I just mean he doesn’t see it as a waste of time to look at good ingredients.]
Oh… is that a compliment?
Anyway, it was decided that I would visit the filming location soon.
