Episode 142 - 「White Blood」 (3)
Choi Ji-ah wasn’t actually interested in 「White Blood」.
She wasn’t a fan of the fantasy genre; she hadn’t even watched popular movies like 「Dwarves and Rings」 or 「Magic Broom」 that everyone else had seen.
Her favorite genre was romantic comedy, and she was more interested in the trending reality dating shows featuring ordinary people than in dramas.
“When is he going to appear?”
Honestly, the only reason Ji-ah clicked on 「White Blood」 was because her favorite idol, Dong-ha from Axis, was in it.
While the flashy action scenes and high-quality CGI in the first episode piqued her interest a bit, it was nothing more than that.
Dong-ha was supposed to appear as a significant supporting character, but he didn’t show up by the end of the first episode, which annoyed her slightly. However, she thought the drama itself was well-made enough to click on the second episode.
Then, she was treated to the breathtaking visuals of a fantastical universe and thrilling action from the beginning, which captivated her eyes. The intriguing storyline that followed slowly opened her heart.
“What? What’s going to happen in the desert? Is there another shortcut to go up?”
Before she knew it, the thought of seeing Dong-ha had faded from her mind, and she was gradually getting absorbed into the drama itself.
Ji-ah’s fingers clicked on the third episode as if entranced.
[Episode 3: The latest released episode.]
The series was scheduled to release three episodes each week over a four-week period.
As the Netflix logo appeared on the monitor, episode 3 began to play.
A torch flared up in the center of the pitch-black screen, gradually illuminating the surroundings and revealing three figures.
Do-jin and Ella.
And a young male red blood cell holding the torch.
“Judging by your appearance, you don’t seem to be from Norengel. What were you planning to do in the middle of that dangerous desert?”
Do-jin didn’t know what Norengel was, but he expressed his gratitude to the red blood cell who had helped them.
“We fell from the femoral vein heading to the cardiac region. Thanks for helping us.”
“Thank you!”
As Do-jin greeted, Ella followed suit.
“To the cardiac region? Then you must be from outside. It’s the first time we’ve had outsiders since this mess began.”
Do-jin tilted his head at the red blood cell man’s words.
Red blood cells were supposed to travel through all organs, delivering oxygen evenly to the body cells.
But it was the first time they had outsiders?
“So, normally, outside the liver region…”
As Do-jin was speaking, a crackling sound interrupted, followed by a voice from a walkie-talkie.
Crackle─.
[Sentry, report the situation.]
“Yes. We couldn’t find the meteor that fell in the desert, but we found two outsiders wandering in the desert.”
The red blood cell, dressed like a medieval soldier, incongruously pulled out a walkie-talkie from his waist and responded.
The “meteor” he mentioned was likely the hover bike that carried Do-jin and Ella.
In essence, finding Do-jin and Ella was equivalent to finding the meteor, but the sentry seemed not to understand Do-jin’s explanation about falling from the femoral vein heading to the cardiac region.
‘Well, they wouldn’t expect anyone to survive a fall from space.’
At that moment, the walkie-talkie crackled again.
[The Prince has ordered that the two be treated as honored guests and brought in respectfully.]
“What? The Prince? Understood!”
The sentry looked at Do-jin and Ella in shock.
“So, you are guests of the Prince. I apologize for not recognizing you. Please, follow me.”
The sentry bowed respectfully and led the way, and Do-jin and Ella shrugged at each other before following him.
Do-jin had just reached the torso for the first time, so it was impossible for him to know any prince.
In fact, he didn’t even know there was a prince.
‘Is there a prince among the red blood cells? Then there must be a red blood cell kingdom.’
Before meeting Ella, Do-jin had only seen red blood cells as natives who would run away at the mere sight of him, so he hadn’t paid much attention to them.
The red blood cells Do-jin had encountered before were primitive, running around in groups with red rags draped over them.
It wasn’t until he reached the femoral region and met Ella that he realized red blood cells had a civilization comparable to a medieval village.
As Do-jin followed the sentry ahead, he whispered to Ella.
“Ella, have you ever heard of kings or princes among your kind?”
“No! What’s that?”
Do-jin looked ahead again.
It seemed not all red blood cells belonged to the same group.
Well, considering they had crossed space to another planet in the first place.
‘Their world is quite complex too.’
In his medical career, whenever he entered the bodies of other cancer patients to treat them, the white blood cells would always come to escort him as soon as he used his abilities.
The managers of the white blood cells usually traveled in disc-shaped spacecraft reminiscent of UFOs.
Each patient’s world had slightly different designs, but they always used high-tech vehicles to move directly to the problematic area, so he never had to think about the culture or ecology of other cells.
However, it was different when he entered his brother’s body.
The worlds of cancer patients and leukemia patients were never the same.
‘All I found was a single sword lying on the ground, and instead of being escorted by white blood cells, they started chasing me, aiming for my life.’
Lost in various thoughts, they walked through the underground tunnel connected to the desert for a long time until they saw a large cavity with a castle gate in the center.
Crackle─.
“Requesting to open underground gate number 4.”
As the sentry sent the message, the massive wooden gate, carved from logs, opened smoothly.
“Wow! Mister, the gate opened automatically!”
Ella was amazed at the sight she had never seen before.
But Do-jin was equally fascinated.
‘They made the gate out of logs, yet the opening mechanism is automatic…’
It was unbalanced to see a medieval soldier pulling out a walkie-talkie, and the further they went, the more the mixed eras made it both bizarre and intriguing.
‘Well, there was an orbital elevator in the femoral region where Ella was.’
From what Do-jin had observed, it was a transcendent product of civilization that the average technological level of that era could never hope to achieve.
It was a level of technology that even Earth in the original world couldn’t dream of.
“You rode the femoral vein into space, and yet you’re more amazed by an automatic door?”
“Well, the femoral vein is managed by the white blood cells.”
It seemed that red blood cells took advanced technology like hover bikes and androids managed by the white blood cells for granted.
‘Maybe they were programmed that way from the start.’
Lost in thought, Do-jin followed the sentry until they were replaced by another guide and stopped in front of an ornate door.
“Please, go in. The Prince is waiting for you.”
An elderly red blood cell with an impressive beard gestured politely towards the door with both hands.
Do-jin nodded at the sight.
“Let’s see what kind of prince calls me a guest.”
Creak─.
As the doors opened on both sides, they stepped inside to find a younger man in a red uniform standing there.
“You’ve arrived. You look exactly as described in the prophecy. We’ve been expecting you. I am Akhenaton, Prince of Deiaz.”
The man introduced himself as Akhenaton with a bow, and Do-jin tilted his head in curiosity.
“I am Jeong Do-jin. What prophecy are you talking about?”
“I will explain in due time. First, welcome, Jeong Do-woo-jin.”
“Do-jin.”
“Yes, Do-woo-jin.”
Ella, standing beside them, also chimed in with a greeting.
“I’m Ella! Wait, Mister, your name is Do-woo-jin?”
“It’s Do-jin.”
“That’s what I said, Mister Do-woo-jin.”
It seemed like he couldn’t pronounce it correctly.
Do-woo-jin? It sounded like a master pizza dough maker or a monk’s Dharma name.
Come to think of it, he hadn’t told anyone his name since entering this body.
Actually, before meeting Ella, the only one he conversed with was the narrator, so it was natural.
Meanwhile, as Dong-ha, playing the role of Akhenaton, appeared on screen, Choi Ji-ah slapped her knee in excitement.
“This is crazy! What’s with the red uniform! I need to take a screenshot!”
She paused the screen and began capturing frames of Dong-ha’s best moments.
However, since the scene was shot in a wide angle, Ryu Yeon-woo kept appearing on the opposite side of the frame.
Normally, she would have ruthlessly cropped out anyone other than Dong-ha, but she found herself hesitating with the mouse cursor.
‘…What is this? Have I fallen for him already?’
She knew that movies and dramas featuring Ryu Yeon-woo were always hits.
But as someone who rarely went to the theater or watched dramas, Choi Ji-ah had never seen any of his works.
Yet, in just three episodes, Ryu Yeon-woo’s portrayal of Jeong Do-jin had wormed its way into her heart.
“…There are many rooms in one’s heart. This isn’t betraying Dong-ha at all.”
As Choi Ji-ah pressed the spacebar, the screen resumed, and Jeong Do-jin, who had taken up a corner of her heart, spoke.
“Let’s set aside the name issue. What is this prophecy you mentioned?”
At Do-jin’s words, Akhenaton smiled gently and took out a crystal ball and some cards from a drawer.
“Though I am a prince, I am also the high priest of this land.”
“Hmm… You don’t look like one. Are you a fortune teller?”
“Fortune teller…”
Akhenaton’s eyes narrowed in a smile, but his lips pressed tightly together.
Clearly taken aback by the somewhat offensive remark, Akhenaton composed himself and spoke again.
“Ahem. I am not a fortune teller. I can directly hear the divine revelations.”
“God?”
The creator of this world was undoubtedly Do-jin’s younger sister.
All of this existence was ultimately created because she was born.
Did that mean Akhenaton could hear the voice of his sister, who was currently sleeping outside?
Do-jin looked at Akhenaton with incredulous eyes.
To prove his point, Akhenaton floated the crystal ball in the air and picked up a few cards, spreading them out.
“It will be easier to understand if you see it for yourself.”
As Akhenaton seemed to exert some power, the crystal ball began to glow, and ancient-looking characters shimmered and appeared above it.
“The words of God are written here. Please read them.”
“…”
There was no way Do-jin could read the language of this world.
“Ella, read this. You know the red blood cells’ script, right?”
“Script? What’s that?”
“…What are you good at?”
“I’m really good at carrying oxygen! And I can transport carbon dioxide too.”
Listening to their conversation, Akhenaton pinched his forehead and shook his head.
“The prophecy says, ‘Help the black god who descended from the sky.'”
At Akhenaton’s words, Do-jin looked over his attire.
From head to toe, he was dressed in black.
Even the scabbard and blade of his sword were black.
“So, you need to help me?”
“Yes, that’s correct. I am a servant who always prioritizes the will of God.”
Do-jin scratched his chin and nodded.
“That’s convenient. I need to get to the upper world.”
“The upper world?”
Do-jin pointed to the ceiling.
“The brain.”
“…Hmm.”
Akhenaton let out a sigh at Do-jin’s words.
“There is a problem with leaving the liver.”
“A problem?”
“Normally, we trade and travel to other regions through the hepatic vein.”
“You mean the hepatic vein. So, what’s the issue?”
Looking troubled, Akhenaton shook his head before speaking again.
“The sky has been taken over by some creatures, and for the past six years, we haven’t been able to operate the hepatic vein. For some reason, we can’t communicate with the white blood cells either. This has caused severe shortages within the kingdom.”
The sky being taken over.
There was only one thing that came to mind.
“Are you talking about the pterosaurs?”
