Chapter 7: Distant Observer
Ten kilometers above the Textile Mill, an unmanned reconnaissance plane was flying around the mill. In front of a pile of advanced equipment in a house thirty kilometers away from the mill, three people were sitting. One of them was operating a joystick. He was flying the drone. The other two were staring at the monitor with satellite images and a recording device. The voice coming from it was Sloan's.
Behind the three of them stood a man and a woman. The woman said, "Carlos Gibson, codenamed Cross, discovered that Sloan is hiding the truth. He has officially defected and is currently hunting members of the Assassin Brotherhood outside. His method of action is first outside and then inside. Sloan has found his son, the only person he can't kill and who has his ability at the same time. His heart can beat more than four hundred times a minute."
"Good, now we have another backup target," the man said.
"Sir, aren't we going to clear the Assassin Brotherhood?" the woman asked.
"No, this is not our job. This is the job of the FBI and the CIA. We are responsible for global security. Although SHIELD was established in the United States, it now belongs to the management of the World Security Council. You have to be clear about our work. This time, we are just selecting talents to be recruited. Carlos and Wesley are our goal. Just pay attention to them." The man spoke very gently, as if he was very approachable.
The textile factory didn't know that they were being watched. Sloan continued, "There are only a few people in the world who can do this like you. Your father can do it, and so can you. With a little training, you can control it."
Wesley knew that it was almost time. He needed to get out of here first. It would do him no good to join now. The point was that the money had not been cashed yet. He did not want to live a poor life. He had to have a good time.
"Stay away from me." Wesley suddenly stood up and pointed the gun at Sloan, but Sloan was not afraid at all. They had observed Wesley for a long time, a coward who had been cuckolded and did not dare to make a sound. "I have a gun, sir, do you understand?" Wesley continued to pretend to be calm. In fact, even though he knew in his heart that the other party would not kill him, he was still nervous. There was no need to pretend.
"My name is Sloan. This is Fox. Everyone else around here is a killer." Wesley pointed his gun at Fox in an instant, and Sloan moved sideways to block the muzzle. "They are all top killers, so you better keep your gun on me, or the consequences will be hard to say."
Wesley looked startled and pointed the gun at Sloan again. "That's right."
"Are you crazy?" Wesley looked at him incredulously and asked. He seemed to have fallen into the role of Wesley, but now he was the real Wesley, and it was easier to act himself.
"No, the real madness is when you have the blood of a killer, but you waste your time doing nothing. The real madness is when you have the tiger hidden in your heart and the key to release it in your hand, but you are willing to live a miserable life." Sloan approached Wesley step by step and said bewitching words.
"The gun in your hand is your father's, the Beretta 92 series (the prototype of Imanishi 17 in the movie), and you can play a symphony with it. You can also use it to kill the man who killed your father, and the man who tried to kill you last night was the murderer."
"Your father is one of us. We are the Assassin Brotherhood, the weapon of fate. We have transferred your father's entire fortune to you. Believe me, it is a considerable fortune. This is the fate you have been waiting for. Join us."
Threatening Gary was a very conventional thing, but it worked for most people. If Wesley had not come from another parallel universe, he was sure that he would have joined them immediately after seeing a sum of money and believed their words without a doubt. However, the play needed to continue.
Wesley held the gun against Sloan, his expression struggling, and then he said, "Step back, please step back." He felt that the fierce language was indeed so civilized. "You don't know anything about me." With that, he walked to the stairs. Fox was standing there. Wesley came up to her and continued to point the gun at her. "Can you go away? Please go away?" His serious expression was full of comedy. Fox smiled and moved out of the way, and Wesley went downstairs with the gun in one hand and the fly he had just shot in the other.
When he came outside, he threw away the fly, pulled out his gun, and stuck it in the back of his waist. Then, he got into the car that Fox had stolen back and drove out of the textile factory after starting it. Someone actually opened the door for him here. It seemed that the other party had not thought of persuading him to join in one go. What an experienced player.
It was almost dawn when Wesley drove to his house. Instead of driving straight over, he parked far away and walked back to his house. He opened the door and quietly lay down. Then he fell into a deep sleep. He was really tired.
The clank, clank, clank was heard again. Wesley suddenly woke up and glanced at Casey beside him. She must have gotten used to the sound and showed no signs of waking up. She got up, went into the bathroom, closed the door, and took out the pistol. "Apple, how do you use it?" Wesley asked Apple directly.
"The Beretta 92 Series Pistol uses 9mm bullets and has a capacity of 13 rounds." Apple briefly introduced it and then taught Wesley to take out the cartridge, then put it back in and turn off the safety. Wesley then put it directly into the water tank of the toilet.
"Phew, I'm going to take a look at my savings. I don't know how much I have." He quickly washed his face, brushed his teeth, and tidied himself up. Then, he took his business bag and left the house. He came out very early today and went directly to the ATM across the street. He inserted the card, entered the password, and clicked the query.
A series of numbers appeared. It was the first time Wesley had seen so many numbers. More than 3.6 million dollars. He took a deep breath to calm himself, then withdrew a few thousand dollars and put it in his wallet. But now he felt that his wallet was too old and worn to hold so much money. It did not match, but in the end he put it in, took out his bank card, and left.
"Apple, I can eat a lot of my breakfast today to provide you with enough heat. By the way, my heart was beating so fast yesterday. Did you organize a lot of information?"
"I've sorted out one millionth of the total information. The progress is very fast." Apple dealt Wesley another blow. It was only one millionth. When would it be completed? How could Apple upgrade without completing it?
