Chapter 34: **Chapter 34: Reiki, You Lied to Me!**
The battle started and ended in under a minute. Even the four ninjas involved barely registered what happened before they were lying battered on the ground.
"So fast!" someone murmured.
"Everyone, hurry and help me move them!" Reiki called out, rushing forward with a few young helpers: Obito Uchiha, Kakashi Hatake, Might Guy, and Kurenai Yuhi. Reiki had chosen these juniors to assist rather than bringing in the hospital's medics; he didn't want them swooping in and stealing his chance to gain valuable healing experience.
He and Shizune set to work, quickly getting the injured onto hospital beds. Shizune took charge of the fractures, expertly reducing and splinting broken bones, while Reiki focused on the two taijutsu specialists who'd been swatted away by Gamabunta, Jiraiya's summon. Seeing the extent of their injuries made Reiki truly understand Jiraiya's cruelty. Gamabunta hadn't aimed for their heads—thankfully—but every other bone in their bodies seemed broken. One wrong step, and these trainees would've been crushed outright.
"Brother Reiki, their bodies..." Shizune hesitated, eyes wide at the injuries.
"Follow the protocol," Reiki encouraged, his voice calm. "I'll handle the rest."
With newfound confidence, Shizune nodded and began her work, setting bones with precision and speed. In just ten minutes, she'd finished stabilizing her patients—a record time. Reiki was pleased. This exercise was as much about training Shizune's confidence as it was about healing the injured.
Finally, Reiki finished treating the internal injuries of the taijutsu specialists, his system giving a satisfied "ding" as his chakra reserves increased, along with a 0.9% skill improvement for his holy hands.
Reiki's excitement grew, knowing he was one step closer to reaching jounin-level medical prowess. But he held back from fully healing the two. This harsh approach was Jiraiya's plan, and if he performed "miracle" treatments every time, Tsunade—and possibly Danzo or Orochimaru—might become suspicious of his abilities. The key was to keep everyone safe, but not to show too much too soon.
---
Meanwhile, a new issue arose. After witnessing Jiraiya's brutal training style, the second group of trainees hesitated to step up, and some even looked ready to leave. Reiki felt a surge of frustration—if they refused to fight, this whole opportunity was wasted!
He quickly sought out his friend Nawaki.
"Hey, Brother Nawaki," Reiki whispered, pulling him aside, "don't you want everyone to see the strength and courage of the Senju Clan?"
Nawaki's eyes narrowed. "You're trying to get me to go out there first, aren't you? I'm not stupid, Reiki! If no one else goes, I won't either. I'm not here just to be beaten!"
"Brother Nawaki, have you forgotten? That night, you said you wanted to become an even greater ninja than Tsunade-sensei," Reiki pressed. "Plus, didn't you say the girl you like admires bravery? You can show that now. I already spoke to Jiraiya-sama, so he'll go easy on you."
Nawaki hesitated, visibly tempted. "Are you sure? You'll make sure I don't get totally beaten up, right?"
"Trust me. I'll be right here if anything goes wrong." Reiki gave him an encouraging nod, adding, "Besides, aren't you even a little curious to see how you stack up against a legendary Sannin?"
"Fine, fine, I'll go!" Nawaki said, gathering his courage. He squared his shoulders, ready to rush forward—until Reiki caught him by the shoulder, whispering something in his ear to boost his confidence. Nawaki beamed, his determination rekindled, and Reiki returned to his post, watching with satisfaction as Nawaki strode onto the field.
---
Jiraiya looked at the young Senju, a slight smirk on his face. "Nawaki? So, you're all grown up now?"
Before Jiraiya could continue, Nawaki cut him off, addressing the crowd. "Listen up, everyone! We have a chance here that's rare—facing off against a real Sannin. You think we'll get another opportunity like this? Look at those who've already fought—yes, they got injured, but thanks to Master Tsunade's disciple, Reiki, they're safe and already healing. Think about the strength we'll gain, the survival skills we'll build! I, Senju Nawaki, am ready to accept this test!"
---
Moments later, Nawaki was sprawled on a hospital bed, groaning as he regained consciousness. He fixed Reiki with a glare, grumbling, "Reiki…you lied to me!"
Reiki didn't have time to respond. Nawaki's rousing speech had inspired the rest, and now other teams were stepping forward. Seeing the professional setup, Reiki's reputation, and the safe handling of injuries, they felt reassured. The thrill of facing Jiraiya outweighed their fears.
Reiki grinned to himself as the next group took the field. *It's only just beginning,* he thought.
