The Third Hokage, his blood pressure spiking, roared in frustration, his words punctuated by spit. Normally, he wouldn't lose his composure like this, but Danzo had pushed him to his limits.

"Since the establishment of the ANBU, it has always had the authority to monitor anyone—anyone. That includes the village's top officials!"

The Hokage glared at Danzo, his voice hardening.

"Forget ANBU's rights for a moment. Tell me, Danzo, why aren't you at home resting in the middle of the night? What were you doing here? What is it about Uchiha that fascinates you so much?"

Danzo Shimura narrowed his eyes but turned his head away dismissively, refusing to answer. His silence screamed defiance.

You already know why I'm here, his demeanor seemed to say. So what if I got caught? You won't do anything to me.

Danzo's confidence was infuriating.

The Hokage's fists clenched, his patience stretched beyond its limits. Danzo's complete lack of remorse ignited his anger fully.

"Very well, Danzo. Since you have nothing to say for yourself, I'll get straight to the point."

"???"

Danzo turned back in surprise, confused by the Hokage's tone.

"From now on, you are confined to your residence. This is the last time I will tolerate your recklessness," Sarutobi declared. "Effective immediately, Shimura Danzo is under house arrest. No one, not even members of the Shimura clan, may contact him."

Danzo blinked, disbelief flashing across his face. "Sarutobi, are you serious?"

The members of the Hokage's escort team stepped forward, surrounding Danzo. They exchanged glances, understanding the gravity of the Hokage's order. As members of the guard, they followed the Hokage's commands without question. If it came to it, they would even strike down Danzo on the spot.

Danzo, however, still couldn't believe what was happening. His mouth twisted in a mix of disbelief and anger. What's the difference between this and prison?

The Hokage didn't even dignify Danzo's question with a response. Instead, he waved his hand dismissively and strode out of the alley, leaving Danzo to stew in his confusion and rage.

"Danzo-sama, please," one of the guards said, gesturing for him to follow. Though they were bound to respect his title, they couldn't defy the Hokage's orders.

Meanwhile, Sarutobi's anger had not subsided. Once back in his office, he summoned Mitokadu Homura and Koharu Utatane for an urgent meeting.

"Are you alright, Sarutobi? It's late to be calling us," Homura said as he entered, looking far more relaxed than usual. Since stepping back from village politics, he had been sleeping better, eating better, and enjoying life in a way he hadn't in years.

"We'll talk once Koharu arrives," the Hokage said curtly, puffing on his pipe to steady his nerves.

When Koharu finally arrived, she took her seat beside Homura. However, Homura instinctively moved his chair away, leaving Koharu scowling at the slight.

The Hokage wasted no time getting to the point.

"You both know the village is facing financial difficulties. Shinki stepped up as a middleman to negotiate with the Hyuga and Uchiha clans, securing loans to help the village through this rough period."

He paused, exhaling smoke through gritted teeth.

"Both clans agreed to lend us money under reasonable conditions. But Danzo, as usual, couldn't leave well enough alone. Despite my explicit instructions, he went to the Uchiha district to stir up trouble and was stopped by Shinki's puppet patrols."

Homura's eyes widened in shock. "He did what?"

Koharu shook her head, muttering, "Unbelievable."

Homura, who had always been somewhat supportive of Danzo's actions in the past, now saw things differently.

"The village needs this money, and the Uchiha's conditions were fair," Homura said, his tone laced with disbelief. "Danzo couldn't see the bigger picture? What was he thinking? This isn't just reckless; it's outright madness."

Koharu, who had been silent, finally spoke. "Danzo's always been like this—unable to see past his own paranoia. But going against the Hokage's direct orders? That's beyond the pale."

The Hokage nodded.

"I've had enough. Danzo's constant scheming has jeopardized the village one too many times. He's under house arrest, effective immediately. I will no longer tolerate his mischief, and I expect you both to support this decision."

Homura sighed, grateful he had distanced himself from Danzo's influence. Koharu, though less vocal, nodded in agreement, recognizing that Danzo's actions had become indefensible.

Shimura Danzo, however, sat in his home fuming, refusing to acknowledge his mistakes. As far as he was concerned, his actions were justified. But for the first time, he found himself completely isolated—his old allies having finally grown tired of his relentless scheming.

And this time, not even Sarutobi would shield him.
