Chapter 15: Chapter 15: A Crisis Resolved by a Lunchbox
At that moment, the gazes of Naruto, Sakura, Kakashi, and Hiruzen were all fixed on the kunai aimed at Sasuke.
In the next second, the sharp kunai would pierce Sasuke.
Sakura and Naruto's minds went blank.
They couldn't comprehend why, during what was supposed to be a simple test, the jonin instructor would show absolutely no mercy, as if he was genuinely trying to kill Sasuke.
Kakashi and Hiruzen, on the other hand, were waiting in anticipation for Sasuke to use that Lightning Release technique.
But Sasuke chose not to.
"This isn't just about pushing my limits anymore!"
"Is Kakashi trying to force me to use some jutsu?"
Sasuke thought back to the earlier moment in the classroom. He had assumed no one would notice anything unusual.
But clearly, he was wrong.
Even that brief outburst had been noticed.
It was highly likely that Kakashi had already arrived at that time and had been observing them.
So now...
He was using this method to try to compel Sasuke to use Shinsoku.
But Sasuke didn't want to use it. First, this was just a test there was no need to reveal his trump card.
Second...
Shinsoku did indeed resemble the Lightning Release Chakra Mode of the Hidden Cloud Village.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, Sasuke had no intention of using it unless absolutely necessary.
Then, in the next instant, a flash of lightning lit up the scene.
The dazzling brilliance blinded everyone momentarily, turning their vision white.
The sound of crackling lightning followed.
Back in the Hokage's office, Hiruzen suddenly stood up, staring at the lightning in his crystal ball.
"So it is the Lightning Release Chakra Mode!"
Just as he said this, the light dissipated in an instant.
Sasuke, struck by a Lightning Release attack, fell from mid-air.
The paralyzing effect of the Lightning Release left him temporarily unable to move.
The next second, Kakashi grabbed Sasuke's arm, twisting it behind his back and restraining him.
Sasuke couldn't move at all.
"Got you, Uchiha Sasuke!"
Kakashi's voice rang out.
At the same time, Hiruzen slowly sat back down.
"It wasn't the Uchiha brat's Lightning Release!"
"It was Kakashi's… Lightning Release Shadow Clone."
In the end, Kakashi wasn't truly going to kill Sasuke and couldn't force him to use the Lightning Release.
So Kakashi had to let it go, using the Lightning Release Shadow Clone he had prepared in advance to safely end the confrontation.
Even though he was tied up by Kakashi, Sasuke breathed a sigh of relief.
"As I thought… Kakashi might have seen that earlier moment, but he probably didn't see it clearly or couldn't confirm the nature of my Lightning Release!"
He had narrowly escaped.
Sasuke was now tightly bound by Kakashi to prevent any escape.
Normally, Naruto would seize this opportunity to mock Sasuke. But now, he couldn't utter a single word.
The gap between them was too vast!
Sasuke had been able to go toe-to-toe with Kakashi, even managing to unleash two powerful Fire Release jutsus consecutively.
Their abilities weren't even in the same league, leaving Naruto with no room for mockery only a bitter sense of frustration.
"How did that guy get so far ahead of me?"
Naruto clenched his fists tightly.
At this moment, Kakashi glanced toward the bushes.
"Are you still going to hide, Sakura?"
Sakura, who had been hiding in the bushes, quietly stepped out.
Her face was pale; she knew she had no chance of snatching the bells from Kakashi.
If even someone as strong as Sasuke had lost, how could she possibly win?
Still, Sakura felt that this test was unfair.
"Sensei! There's no way we can defeat you. It's impossible to get the bells!"
"Are you trying to make all of us fail on purpose?"
Sakura protested.
Kakashi smiled lightly.
"I never said it was over!"
"I'm just saying it's about time for lunch. After eating, we'll continue!"
With that, Kakashi disappeared in an instant.
In the moment Kakashi vanished, Sasuke was released from his bindings.
Kakashi had left only two lunchboxes behind.
Naruto, still hanging from the tree, was not let down.
"Sasuke and Sakura performed decently, so I'm letting you two eat to regain some energy!"
"Naruto, however, was foolish enough to directly face a ninja far stronger than him. As punishment, you'll stay hanging there to reflect on your actions!"
In the Hokage's office, Hiruzen puffed on his pipe, observing the trio through his crystal ball.
His gaze locked onto Sasuke.
Kakashi's earlier test had gone as expected, but what concerned Hiruzen was that even in such a critical situation, Sasuke had refrained from using the Lightning Release he had shown before.
This level of restraint and calculated control was unnerving.
And for someone like Sasuke an Uchiha it was hard for Hiruzen to fully trust him.
Sasuke was Itachi's brother, and if he hadn't shown such exceptional talent, it might have been less concerning.
But with such astonishing aptitude, Hiruzen wasn't sure what to do.
Sasuke's potential was frightening.
It felt as if another dangerous Uchiha was rising, step by step reminiscent of Uchiha Madara himself.
At this rate, Sasuke might even surpass Madara.
His taijutsu alone allowed him to exchange over a hundred moves with Kakashi at this young age.
Combined with his impressive ninjutsu skills being able to fluently use two Fire Release techniques it was far beyond the level of a genin.
Not to mention his mastery of kunai-throwing and single-handed hand seals, which left even seasoned ninja in awe.
When all of this was considered, not even the First Hokage or the legendary Uchiha Madara could match Sasuke's level at this age.
Such an unpredictable element, if allowed to grow unchecked, could cast a shadow over Konoha no, over the entire ninja world.
Hiruzen's unease grew stronger.
"Perhaps… handing Sasuke over to Danzo might… be the better choice…"
At that moment, a sound came from the crystal ball.
"Here, take it, dead last!"
On screen, Sasuke tossed his lunchbox to Naruto, who was still hanging in the tree.
Naruto caught it, looking at Sasuke in surprise.
"I'm just not hungry. It'd be a waste to throw it away," Sasuke said nonchalantly.
Hearing this, Naruto's earlier hostility toward Sasuke melted away, replaced by a wide grin.
Sakura, holding her own food, hesitated for a moment before saying, "Sasuke-kun, let's share! I can't finish all of this anyway."
Sasuke waved her off. "No need. I'm really not hungry. You two go ahead and eat."
Aware of Kakashi's ploy, Sasuke was already planning to find something better to eat later. The fight with Kakashi had drained a lot of his energy.
Watching from the shadows, Kakashi nodded in satisfaction.
Back in the Hokage's office, Hiruzen let out a small sigh of relief.
"It seems I judged too quickly. He may have incredible talent, but at the end of the day, he's still just a child a child who can be guided."
At this moment, Sasuke had no idea that a simple act of sharing lunch had resolved a potentially grave crisis hanging over him.
