Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Your Father’s Childhood Was... Huh?
Naruto appeared at the village gate, Sasuke trailing behind him.
In front of them stood a group of debt collectors—Tsunade's creditors, to be precise.
Moments ago, Naruto had proposed a solution to their predicament.
Tsunade owed over 200 million ryō, including interest. Naruto, however, suspected they were trying to extort her. He proposed cutting down the debt to a mere 20 million ryō.
"What the hell!?"
"Are you Konoha guys just bullying us now!?"
"Who taught you to make such ridiculous deductions, brat!?"
"Exactly! Why not just rob us outright!?"
The crowd erupted, their protests loud and unanimous.
Madness! Even if they discounted the principal, there was still over 100 million ryō left!
Sure, Tsunade might be Hokage now, but that didn't mean she could shirk her debts, right?
Naruto, however, remained unfazed by their complaints. With a calm expression, he reached into Sasuke's cloak and retrieved a scroll.
With a puff of smoke, Naruto began pulling out explosive tags, one after another.
At first, the creditors scoffed at the spectacle. But as he pulled out the hundredth tag, the crowd's confidence crumbled.
Their faces turned pale with terror as they worried Naruto might lose his temper and set off the explosives, taking them all with him.
Most of them were wealthy individuals with fortunes in the millions, even billions. Dying here over a debt dispute would be a ridiculous way to go.
"W-Wait!"
"Hold on, young man! Let's not be rash!"
"You're still young, with your whole life ahead of you. There's no need for such extreme measures!"
"Exactly! Twenty million it is! We agree—just put those tags away!"
Naruto waved a hand, signaling Sasuke to halt his hand seals. He tilted his head, feigning confusion as he looked at the group.
"You're sure about this? I didn't force you, did I?"
The creditors: …
Whatever you say, kid.
At this point, they'd resigned themselves to the fact that this new Hokage—and Konoha as a whole—was more of a thug than they were.
With that, Naruto sent them off with a broad smile. Whether they'd go straight to a rooftop to cool off—or contemplate jumping off—was anyone's guess.
"Let's go, you idiot. My treat."
"I recently made some money. Let's get something good to eat."
"Anything's fine."
With the debt settled, Naruto led Sasuke toward a yakiniku restaurant in Tanzaku Town.
---
Meanwhile, on a rooftop somewhere in Konoha, two figures appeared—people who didn't belong in this timeline.
"Boruto..."
"This is the Konoha of the past."
The older, one-armed Sasuke gazed at the Hokage Rock, his face momentarily betraying his astonishment.
"Huh!?"
"How is this..."
Boruto, standing beside him, froze mid-sentence as his gaze landed on the four completed Hokage statues and the unfinished Fifth Hokage monument.
It was undeniable.
They had truly traveled back to Konoha's past.
After a long pause, Boruto hesitantly asked, "Sasuke-sensei... What is Urashiki trying to do?"
Sasuke's brow furrowed in thought. His voice carried a tinge of concern.
"He must be aiming to strike while your father is still weak..."
"No, there's no doubt about it. That's his plan!"
"Back in this time, Naruto is too weak to fend off someone like Ōtsutsuki Urashiki!"
"This is bad. He's in danger!"
Without hesitation, Sasuke leaped from the rooftop, leaving Boruto, who stood dumbfounded, to catch up.
"Wait for me!"
Boruto scrambled to follow.
Catching up, he found Sasuke had finally slowed down.
Looking around, Boruto noticed the quaint, slightly scorched architecture, a stark contrast to the modern Konoha he knew.
The sights of old Konoha filled him with curiosity, especially since this was the village of his father's childhood.
"Sasuke-sensei..."
"What kind of person was my father back then?"
Sasuke, lost in thought, pieced together the timeline in his mind.
This was the era...
...shortly after he'd defected from Konoha.
"Your father..." Sasuke murmured, memories of the past flashing through his mind.
"His childhood wasn't a happy one."
"Was it because he was a Jinchūriki?"
Hearing Boruto's question, Sasuke nodded and continued.
"The villagers saw him as the Nine-Tails demon fox. They despised him..."
As he spoke, a small smile crept onto Sasuke's face.
"But that didn't faze him. To your father, it was nothing."
"Despite everything, Naruto would just smile and tell everyone he'd earn their recognition one day. He always said he'd become Hokage."
"That's... amazing!"
Boruto's imagination ran wild, and he couldn't help but shout.
Though he didn't know the specifics of his father's struggles, he couldn't deny how admirable Naruto's optimism and determination were in such a harsh environment.
As Sasuke reminisced and Boruto marveled, a commotion broke their train of thought.
Up ahead, at a yakiniku restaurant, the owner was groveling before a blond boy.
Beside the blond stood a figure in a black cloak, their face obscured.
"Y-You haven't paid yet!"
"Pay?"
"You've got some nerve to bring that up!"
Naruto stormed out of the restaurant, tearing down its sign and throwing it at the owner.
"You wrote this yourself, didn't you?"
"All-you-can-eat yakiniku—pay once, eat as much as you like!"
"And now you have the gall to demand payment from us!?"
Naruto smashed the sign underfoot, splitting it in two.
He and Sasuke had barely eaten enough for ten people—it wasn't like he'd brought Hinata along to really go overboard.
Now this guy wanted more money?
Did he think Naruto's title as Konoha's Yellow Brat was a joke?
Besides, anyone bold enough to offer all-you-can-eat yakiniku deserved to learn a lesson.
"This is a small business! How am I supposed to stay afloat if you eat like that!?"
"My restaurant has the backing of the Fire Daimyō!"
"If you don't give me a proper explanation today, I'll—"
"Explain this!" Naruto interrupted, gesturing to Sasuke. "Get him, you idiot!"
Without hesitation, Sasuke stepped forward, and the two of them pinned the owner to the ground, delivering a restrained yet firm beating.
Their blows were careful—enough to send him to the hospital for a few days but not leave any permanent damage.
"Ah! They're attacking me!"
"Konoha ninja are bullying outsiders!"
The owner cried out dramatically, clutching his bruised body, hoping to draw attention.
Surprisingly, his tactic worked. The surrounding villagers began to gather, curious to see the commotion.
Naruto glared at the onlookers.
"What are you looking at!?"
"If you keep staring, I'll deal with you next!"
Hearing this, the crowd dispersed in fear, leaving the scene.
The only ones who remained were Boruto and the older Sasuke, who watched from a distance.
Seeing his father so mercilessly beating an elderly man, Boruto's face twisted in disbelief.
"Sasuke-sensei..."
"This doesn't quite match the person you described."
