Chapter 18: I Get It! This Is Evidence of the Uchiha Rebellion!
Samui’s wariness towards Konoha continued to decrease. While Konoha had undeniably been powerful in the past, even facing the Allied Shinobi Forces single-handedly, those days were gone!
Now, even the most prestigious Uchiha clan in the ninja world had become cowardly and averse to battle, printing articles that reminisced about their past glory.
However, for the sake of objectivity, Samui still wanted to hear Gojo Kaigetsu’s perspective.
She deliberately softened her normally aloof tone, making it sound sweet and innocent. “Say, Kaigetsu-kun, what does this article actually mean?”
“Hmm, what it means…” Gojo Kaigetsu lowered his voice and leaned in conspiratorially, his warm breath tickling Samui’s soft earlobe. He reveled in the subtle fragrance emanating from the Cloud kunoichi's body heat.
“In my opinion, the Uchiha clan is planning a coup!”
“What? A coup!”
Samui’s breath hitched. The dangerous topic that spilled from Gojo Kaigetsu’s lips sent a thrill through her, momentarily overshadowing the discomfort of his touch. “What’s going on?”
“Let's ignore the initial content for now. Look at the end of the article he asked me to print…”
Following Gojo Kaigetsu’s guidance, Samui’s gaze moved downwards, eventually landing on the intriguing passage he highlighted.
[This village is guilty; everyone in the village is guilty!]
“Hiss-!” Samui gasped, utterly shocked by this earth-shattering revelation.
She had been too naive. Thanks to Gojo Kaigetsu’s subtle hint, the Uchiha’s sinister ambitions were now laid bare before her eyes.
This wasn’t an article reminiscing about the powerful Uchiha clan during the Second Shinobi World War; it was a veiled accusation, implying that everyone in the village was guilty in the eyes of the Uchiha clan.
‘Expressing it in such a subtle way is practically a declaration of dissent!’
*Thump-Thump-Thump-*
The silence was so profound that Samui could hear her own heartbeat.
‘The Uchiha clan and Konoha are on the verge of a rupture. Konoha is about to face a bloodbath. This intelligence is invaluable!’
Regardless of the outcome, a rift between the Uchiha and Konoha would be good news for the Four Great Shinobi Villages, especially for Kumogakure, who would have the advantage of knowing beforehand.
‘Should we suggest that the Raikage attempt secret contact with the Uchiha ninjas? If we could convince them to relocate to Kumogakure, the power of the Sharingan…’ Samui indulged in a fantasy.
She hadn’t expected to obtain such critical intelligence just on her second day in Konoha.
Admittedly, while Gojo Kaigetsu was undoubtedly a worthless ninja, he was a treasure trove of information for Kumogakure!
“This… how could this be?” Samui feigned a worried expression. “In that case, Kaigetsu-kun must be struggling. As a Hokage advisor, he knows about the Uchiha’s actions, but his life is being threatened~”
“Not really struggling, it's just business~ I’m probably the only one in Konoha who would dare take on this job. The Uchiha are truly wealthy; the price they offered was simply irresistible.” Gojo Kaigetsu smacked his lips. “It can’t be helped~”
‘Ugh! Scum of Konoha!’
Samui felt a surge of contempt, but her voice remained sweet and gentle. “So, how many copies need to be printed?”
Naturally, she hoped for a large number. The more copies there were, the greater the likelihood of a rift between the two parties, and the greater the benefit for Kumogakure.
“The Uchiha’s demand is to have flyers with this article plastered all over Konoha!” Gojo Kaigetsu raised his hand, his fingers clenching into a fist. “So, the more, the better!”
“I’ll leave the printing to you, Ai~ Once it’s done, I’ll give you a big bonus~”
Gojo Kaigetsu naturally took Samui’s hands, taking the opportunity to cop a feel while observing her reaction.
Having revealed so much information, Samui should be making her move soon.
He suspected that the moment she left the publishing house, she would use Kumogakure's secret communication methods to relay this intelligence.
“Alright, that’s settled then~ I’m looking forward to it~”
Only after feeling the subtle sheen of sweat on Samui’s hands did Gojo Kaigetsu release them and turn to leave.
Once he was gone, Samui disgustedly pulled out her handkerchief and wiped her hands repeatedly. “That lecherous bastard…”
Samui gazed out the window, her eyes filled with determination. Her brief interaction with Gojo Kaigetsu had made it clear what continuing to lurk in Konoha, by his side, would entail…
She might face increasingly brazen advances from Gojo Kaigetsu, potentially even to the point of tarnishing her ninja way. But for the sake of Kumogakure, she was prepared to make the sacrifice.
Samui surveyed her surroundings, ensuring there were no Konoha ninja watching, and contemplated how to transmit the intelligence.
The information about the impending conflict between the Uchiha and Konoha was time-sensitive. Every second counted; it had to be relayed to Kumogakure as quickly as possible.
‘I need to contact Mabui today!’
Mabui, another kunoichi from Kumogakure.
Physically, she wasn’t quite as impressive as Samui, the main difference being… her skin tone!
Mabui’s skin wasn’t traditionally black, but a fiery shade between brown and black! Moreover, she was slightly less endowed than Samui, but her talent for ninjutsu was equally impressive. She was also a Jonin of Kumogakure and had mastered the art of concealing her presence.
Due to her similarities with Samui, she had been designated as a spy ninja by the Raikage’s advisory council.
More importantly, Samui and Mabui had mastered the Kumogakure Secret Technique: Heart-to-Heart Communication. During undisturbed nights, through chakra threads, they could sense each other’s “hearts,” transmitting messages directly across vast distances.
These chakra threads were incredibly subtle, undetectable even by the Byakugan.
However, this secret technique had a significant drawback. Whether actively using Heart-to-Heart Communication or not, their emotions were constantly transmitted to each other.
The despair of facing an enemy, the humiliation of having one’s ninja way defiled – these emotions would flow between them, posing a significant obstacle to their ninja training. One could become a burden on the other. Very few ninjas chose to learn this technique.
‘I’ll transmit the message to Mabui tonight.’
