Chapter 96: Arming The Recruits
With a sharp flick of her wrist, she sent a pulse of energy into the glowing soil. The effect was instantaneous. A deep, resonant crack echoed through the air as the land fractured along the natural fault lines Verina had targeted. Large chunks of soil and stone were peeled away effortlessly.
The entire process took mere seconds.
Verina stepped back, her eyes shining triumphantly. "Efficient, isn't it? No wasted effort, no unnecessary damage."
I couldn't help but be impressed. The precision and power of the spell were undeniable. With this kind of magic, we could dig and destroy obstacles far faster than with traditional methods—and without the backbreaking labor.
I also checked the amount of Lifeline used in her Health tab. It barely trickled beyond 4% in term usage.
I nodded, my grin widening. "Impressive, Verina. More than impressive, actually. This'll save us a lot of time and energy."
At this stage, Verina was already topping off the entire construction team of mega-structure with her current destructive prowess—outside of the construction itself.
Verina's eyes sparkled, a mixture of pride and excitement. "I thought you'd appreciate it. Though, this spell was crafted with soulless inanimate objects in mind. If I want to use it against Calamity Objects and people, I need to learn more arcane leylines."
"I can't wait until you grow to become that powerful then."
"Fufufu, indeed."
At one moment, I managed to glimpse Verina smiling. It was a rather bone-chilling and horrifying sight.
Regardless, her whole existence was adorable to me, so I don't mind her sinister new expression.
"Now, shall we gather what we need before the people in the bastion start wondering?" Verina asked.
"We can take our sweet time~"
As we descended into the manmade caverns below the camp, the air turned cooler, and the faint sounds of dripping water echoed off the stone walls.
"Can you use that same spell to delicately extract the ore?" I asked.
"Hmm, I can try. It will take a few tries, if you want to bare with me."
"You can take as many tries as you want."
With a little bit more digging and exploration, we stumbled upon many wonders of buried nature.
From a rich skarn deposit that was brimming with chemical components, covering transcendental rare gems, to a new type of fantasy ore that didn't exist in real life.
[Vorrathite Ore (Elemental 100%) - ??? kg: Vorrathite Ore is a rare and coveted mineral found deep within the molten veins of volcanic mountains, shrouded in the fumes of sulfur and the whispers of ancient elemental spirits. Its dark, iridescent surface gleams with hues of deep crimson and violet, hinting at the immense power locked within.
The ore is warm to the touch, an ever-present reminder of the raw elemental forces it embodies.
When properly refined, Vorrathite produces a metal stronger and lighter than iron, with an inherent resistance to both extreme heat and psionic forces. It is said that the metal resonates with the primal power of the earth, making it nearly unbreakable by mundane means.
Weapons crafted from Vorrathite can cleave through stone and steel with ease, while armor forged from it grants unparalleled protection, capable of absorbing and dispersing both physical and arcane impacts]
Yup, we somehow hit a jackpot.
Though, seeing that this ore was supposed to be found within the molten veins of volcanic mountain, doesn't that mean this whole place was formerly one?
"I think I knew this one," Verina nodded to herself. "This is vorrathite, one of the well-sought types of iron by many metallurgists."

"Vorrathite is supposed to be found deep within molten veins of volcanic mountain," I added to draw a piece of knowledge from her opinion. "Why do you think that we stumbled upon it here?"
"Hmm, true. I didn't sense any formation of lava, nor volcanic activity." Verina held her own chin as she wandered deep into theories. "I'm not an expert at this, but there might be a grand-scale event that terraformed the whole land, whether it is natural or calamity-object related."
"I see."
Regardless, I went back to the bastion to call out Kuzunoha, my private storage holder.
"To think that I have been regressed into a mere item carrier…"
Kuzunoha seemed to be having a temporary existential crisis.
Verina and I worked in tandem, extracting chunks of vorrathite and all sorts of goodies from the giant skarn deposit from the subterranean depths. It was quiet, almost peaceful—an odd contrast to the chaos we had just come from.
Once we had gathered enough materials, we returned to the surface, where Verina and I began our usual blacksmithing, assembling the pikes while the recruits speechlessly oversaw the process.
[Vorrathite Pike (Masterpiece 100%) - 3.5 kg: The Vorrathite Pike is a mastercrafted polearm of ancient design, hewn from the rarest Vorrathite Ore, and forged in the heart of arcane elemental forges.
The haft of the pike is a seamless blend of Vorrathite steel and ash wood, its surface rippling with faint traces of crimson and violet, a reflection of the elemental power imbued deep within the weapon. Standing over two meters in length, its form is deceptively light, yet it carries the weight of authority and devastation.
The blade of the pike is a menacing, elongated spearhead, tapering to a razor-sharp point that shimmers with an almost liquid sheen. Expertly forged to withstand both physical and psionic forces, this pike is capable of piercing the toughest armor and magical barriers alike]
Alongside it, we also speedrunned an appropriate protective gear to strengthen the recruits' survivability.
[Vorrathite Ward (Masterpiece 100%) - 8.7 kg: The Vorrathite Ward is a protective garb. This ancient armor is crafted from refined Vorrathite, seamlessly integrated into a flexible, scale-like lattice that covers the wearer from neck to toe.
The outer surface of the armor glistens with a deep, obsidian hue, streaked with faint veins of crimson and violet that shift and pulse with the natural rhythm of the elements contained within.
Despite its formidable appearance, the Vorrathite Ward is remarkably lightweight and allows for fluid movement. The armor's scales are not merely a defense against physical attacks; they are living extensions of the Vorrathite's elemental core, capable of reacting and adapting to any incoming threat.
When struck, the armor absorbs and disperses kinetic energy, significantly reducing the force of any blow. Against psionic attacks, the Ward's elemental nature provides a natural resistance, redirecting harmful energy away from the wearer]
